This company is the bane of my life !!!!!!!!!!!. Calls me to ask for £44.95 as your business account is in arrears !. Only 3 weeks or so before their representative on the phone agreed to cancel yet some weeks later and explaining on the phone its still showing in arrears !! Emailed and raised a complaint weeks ago [ about this and also mis-allocation of payments ] and guess what ? Still no reply or resolution. I am going to shout and scream at the broker that introduced me to this SHOCKING company. I will never ever use again, and cannot wait to get out of them. DISGRACEFUL, SHOCKING AND POOR would be understatements. KEEP A MILE AWAY YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED !!!!!!!!!!!!!

On 13 February, Smartest Energy confirmed that my account held a credit balance of £326.04 and that this amount would be refunded to me. They proceeded to issue that refund.
Subsequently, on 9 March 2026, they advised that an overpayment had been made by them and requested repayment of £163.02. I complied with this request in full and without delay.
It is therefore entirely unacceptable that they have since referred this alleged outstanding balance of £163.02 to a debt collection agency, and further escalated the amount to £203.02. This action is both unjustified and wholly erroneous.
This situation has arisen due to their administrative error, not any failure on my part. I have acted promptly and in good faith at every stage.
I would strongly advise others to avoid this company. Their service is unprofessional, and they consistently make errors.

I am having a terrible time with this company for my business electric. We have had the conversation and SE agree they are charging me the wrong price compared to my contract.
Now I have had several bills at the wrong rate, I can’t get hold of anyone and no one calls me back! They have my money, would be different if I owed them. Do not recommend!!

Mikey Reid, the agent that assisted me with my recent switch, has been absolutely amazing!
Following an incredibly negative experience with another energy provider, I was understandably nervous about energy companies in general, however, Mikey could not have been more friendly, informative, supportive and incredibly kind! Hopefully, I will not experience challenges going forward, although, should there be a problem, I feel confident that Mikey will do his very best to resolve the issue.

Almost 4 months with no bill?
I had my three-phase meter installed in December and we're now going into April, with NO invoices to date. We run a sunbed studio with a large energy consumption so I absolutely dread to find out what the cost will be. Multiple calls, unanswered emails and still no answer as to when the issue on my account will be sorted.
Very unprofessional to be left in the dark with this and as a new business, it's extremely worrying to have this hanging above our heads. I hope Smartest Energy can put something in place to help with this future bill, this should have been made a priority right from the beginning.

A dreadful company to deal with. Its taken 2 months to try and close my account after switching to a new supplier on 30th January.
My final bill was estimated in excess of what was due. I emailed 4 times and also spoke to someone on the phone to try and resolve the matter. In the meantime I received 3 debt collection letters.
Although I had no written communication to my response requesting an escalation of my complaint, I eventually received a credit note (though I had to locate it online myself).
Just called today asking when I would receive the refund only to be told it would take a further 30 days! WTF!

Cheaper rate’s promised by broker company but ultimately monthly bills worked out expensive, not customer friendly, little transparency and even confusing when speaking to different customers service team members only a few days apart. They were completely unwilling to work with me around the issue of a smart meter and then imposed a extra £25.00 per month fee to me even though I was giving over my monthly meter readings monthly online and always my bills on the required date without fail.
Fixed term dates changed
In all honesty Smartest energy was one of the main contributing factors which made me decided to quit my business, so no Not that smart Smartest Energy

Appalling and faceless Business. Had a business Energy account for 2 years, last invoice end on contract they whacked on a £680.00 charge for 'Outage Charge' for the last month, never applied on invoice before and they could not explain it. ( Nor could LOVE ENERGY who were the agent) They reported themselves to OFGEN as result. Yet still pursued our company for this amount which we disputed, which was double our electricity usage for that month. They have now put the charge up to £889 with fees..! and threatening legal proceedings. The way we have been treated as an SME is outrageous.
They dont answer their phone, or reply to emails ( over 25 sent..!) AVOID.....!

I have had a very disappointing experience with SmartestEnergy Business.
My account was billed for 3,509 kWh, however my actual meter readings (supported by photographs) show that the true consumption for the same period is 2,277 kWh — a significant overstatement.
I raised this with SmartestEnergy, provided full meter readings, calculations, and supporting evidence, and even made a good-faith payment based on actual usage while the issue was under review.
Despite this:
• The billing discrepancy has not been addressed
• My requests for a full meter reconciliation have been ignored
• Responses received have referred to unrelated charges (e.g. RAB Nuclear levy) rather than the actual issue
• The company has failed to confirm the account is formally “in dispute”
Most concerning, I have received payment demand letters and a late payment charge while the invoice remains disputed and unresolved.
This has required significant time and effort to manage and has caused unnecessary stress for what should be a straightforward billing correction.
I have now had to escalate the matter to the Energy Ombudsman due to the lack of meaningful response.
Based on my experience, I would not recommend Smartest Energy to any other small businesses.

Hands down the worst experience I’ve had with any company in my 30‑year career.
Six months ago, Smartest Energy Business withdrew £12k+ from our bank account via direct debit using incorrect meter readings and incorrect unit charges. We reported the errors immediately and have raised them repeatedly since, yet they have consistently failed to correct their mistake.
Despite now acknowledging the issue, issuing a credit note, and repeatedly promising repayment (at least three times since January), they still haven’t returned the funds. Every step of the process has been slow, obstructive, and frustrating.
The cashflow impact of their error could have sunk many small businesses. Based on our experience, I would strongly advise others to avoid Smartest Energy Business.

Very helpful staff, waiting times on the phone are not long, you are greeted by a person (not robot) after making the initial selection who you want to speak to.
I have been with SmartestEnergy for a few years now, never had any issues, very competitive prices, which meant that I had run up a credit on my account which I wanted to be refunded to my account.
Everything was arranged in less than 15 minutes (though it will take some time until the refund will reach my account).
Would highly recommend.
