Don’t do it

Moved into the unit. The unit was clean, but I put my master lock on and then got an email stating I had to remove it because it wasn’t safe. And that I had to put on a disc lock that would be the last four digits of my telephone number. Apparently, so they could access my unit whenever they wanted. I told them I shouldn’t have to replace the master lock and they said I had 72 hours. So now my unit has been sitting without a lock for three days and they won’t give me an idea when the lock will be put on and I could spend $15 to buy one instead of waiting if I didn’t just pay an administration fee of $25 I would move out immediately

We began using Spare Box Storage in…

We began using Spare Box Storage in Kalamazoo in 2024, at a rate of $190 per month. Rates have continued to climb ever since we began doing business, sometimes only 4 months after the previous increase.
On 2/13 of this year, I was summarily informed that another increase will bring my monthly total to $325 per month. This increase triggered my moveout today, only two days after my last bill at $325. After contacting customer services, I was informed that there is no opportunity to receive a prorated refund, after only two days following the last billing cycle. This seems inordinately unfair, and practically downright criminal. This facility was well-kept, accessible, and very convenient for me. I expected more of them when requesting an adjusted refund, and I'm very dissatisfied with the results of my request. I can't ever recommend doing business with this company unless it's absolutely your last resort!

Ancient storage

They have an online system you can’t change billing information can’t see your unit can’t see past billing information. In the AI age they’re working with ancient way.

Save yourself a headache and do not get a storage unit here

I am appalled by SpareBox storage and wouldn’t recommended it to even my enemies. At first, they will give you a low rate- it’ll seem like you are getting a bang for your buck. Obviously, you don’t have anywhere to put your stuff which puts you in a situation where you unfortunately have to pay to put it somewhere. SpareBox will increase their rates drastically, and very very quickly. When they sent me yet another stipulation to the lease it gave me the option to “click to see my full lease.” When I clicked on it, they had my original lease. They accidentally sent the wrong information saying that I should pay significantly less than what they’re actually expecting. When I called and explained this, I told them that due to the fact they sent me the wrong information I felt this month I should pay what was sent to me. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told, “I’m not sure one can call you today” I was persistent in needing to speak to someone higher up and was finally transferred. After explaining all of this again, the ‘supervisor’ informed me that billing will contact me and I can speak to them about what happened and we can figure it out. I was told “you can wait until billing contacts you to make your payment and there will be no late fees while you wait” I asked many times if I could just be transferred to billing directly so this wasn’t prolonged, the request was denied and I could not be transferred. I needed to wait for a call from them, but was assured there would be no late fee while this is figured out. Low and behold, just like the ‘affordable rate’ that quickly changed but this time with no communication. I got a message saying my gate accessed is suspended. I was absolutely disgusted and called immediately. It makes no sense that when I was doing what was instructed of me, that I would no longer be able to access my belongings. I asked right away to be transferred to a ‘supervisor’ because I already knew that the customer service agent was not going to be able to assist me in this matter. There was push back on speaking with a supervisor but I was transferred through. While speaking with them they were not listening to what I was saying at all and kept interrupting me. It was like I was talking to someone reading off a script. Although I was told I was to wait for someone from billing to contact me about this matter, I was made to pay the full amount to get access to my unit.
I have never in my life experienced such terrible customer service, and misled by what they call supervisors. If I could give SpareBox storage a 0 or even negative review, I would.
This is the absolute worst storage unit company that you can use. Save yourself the headache and do not get a unit here!!
