THIS IS S###

this is lowkey teh worst thing ever i have so many evidence that making this "complaint" would be too long , i think i hate about this is that you have to finish a book to be able to swap for a new one. It is very fustrauting when this happens as i am forced to read a book that i dont like, is not similar to my prefrence( it gives you a choice out of 4 ), and very very boring, if i would get paid for doing this with real money i would`nt. I would not wish this on my worst enemy

This app kills any kind of joy for reading, please destroy it

This app kills any kind of joy for reading. No wonder students are getting told "GET OFF YOUR 67 PHONES DO READING" No-one wants to read. It gives you limited books and forces you to read them and its not like there good, they suck! I love a good horror/thriller/comedy and it gives me childrens books?! I hope this app gets obliterated.

Sorry but this is a long one

Sorry but this is a long one

I gave it 1 star because I had to rate it, this damn thing took away all enjoyment for reading, why the on earth do school still use it. It's been proven that enjoyment of reading can make someone happier and more successful, this ruins lives for so many children more than family circumstances and background, so why do they still use it if it does the complete opposite of whats good for you. This made everyone hate it, I used to read all the time and now despise it it should be illigal for this thing to exist, they saw how bad the maths one is and made it worse, this is the antithesis of good.

As well as this the fact the screen is horrible for reading and has made my eyesight worse, it makes reading feel like a chore and given me nothing but pure unfiltered stress, the recommendations are the completely opposite, i got 17 (the highest on the test at the start) and it gave me a children's book, I've read extremely complex books before this.

The "short homework" took a friend almost 2 hours because he kept getting 3/4. Sparx reader is counterproductive and is the spawn of satan, this should be taken out of schools, the people who pay for it in schools should be forced to use this like the students for a month or 2 before deciding if it should be used

As I've said, it killed love for reading and should be abolished.

Not actually reading

This website is falsely marketed as for reading.
However, the website fails to do anything remotely good about reading.

Instead of letting you be wrong, it decides to force you to attempt to answer questions you obviously will not know over 4 times.

As well, it does not let you pick your own book freely. It is much more like a dictatorship , which makes you pretend you have a choice when in reality you only get to pick from 4-7 books.

It is much more of a time waster and forces you to do "reading" even if you do not want to which usually leads to punishments.

If i were to improve the website, i would remake the entire website to actually be about reading but it would still be disliked for that as it is a Sparx-Homework Website which is actively hated.

Sparx Reader is terrible

Sparx Reader is actually so bad. The fact that if you read the whole text but get more than two of the questions wrong you have to read it all over again and when you finally get it right you get way less SRP! It's so ridiculous, i enjoy reading books but when I have to use sparx Reader it makes me absolutely hate reading, I thought sparx maths was bad but this is just another level.

absolutely horrible thing

this website is horrible. i had to do 900 srp worth of homework and had a meltdown only 100 srp in. now its 700 srp but even with that amount it’s still impossible to complete, i make my mom do it as she doesn’t mind and i know that if i do it more compared to what im mandated to do at school, i will have another meltdown. i cannot believe people still actively choose this app in most schools across Britain. its embarrassing, really.

this has completely made me hate reading

this app has completely made me hate reading
its just so bad 4 questions and on a chance you get 1 question wrong you lose about 3/4 of the points you would have had and you have to read it again, also barely gives points you have to spend so long on it

would much rather do a detention than it

THIS APP IS ABSOLUTELY ABYSMALLY…

THIS APP IS ABSOLUTELY ABYSMALLY DOGSHIT. Yes I am taking the time out of my day to go and type a review about this since it geniunely is one of the WORST APPS EVER MADE IN THE HISTORY OF HUMANKIND.

This app targets children learning how to read and pushes it's sloppy idea of what 'learning' is in order to make money. This app, firstly, makes you select an array of only FOUR BOOKS. Tell me how many books are there in a library? On your bookshelf? In a cupboard somewhere? Definitely not FOUR. This instantly makes this app bad enough since limiting choices for children is inexplicably damaging for a child's creativity. Not only this, but the way to complete the set assignments are HORRIFYING. At the end of a passage (which can geniunely be up to 10 medium paragraphs by the way), you'll have to answer a few questions. First off, these questions aren't even about the entire plot. These questions ask for SPECIFIC DETAILS that can easily be mistaken for another subject. This makes it hell as you'll have to memorise basically every object and character in the entire story. If you score 3/4 or 4/4 on the first try, you'll pass, but if you mess up (which is easy to do), you will have to reread the ENTIRE PASSAGE, and this time, you'll only be able to get 4/4 to pass. That's a textbook definition of PUNISHING KIDS HEAVILY FOR A COUPLE MISTAKES. This makes Sparx Reader geniunely a gruelling task that usually takes HOURS to complete. And don't get me started on the books themselves. They are either kids books for genuine 4 year olds, or have passages that stretch up to 500 words (obv exaggerating here, but probably not close off). And guess what? Dont like the book? SCREW YOURSELF BECAUSE WE HATE FUN AND WANT TO WASTE A CHILD'S TIME WHE DRAINING EVERY MOLECULE OF CREATIVITY AND PASSION THEY HAVE FOR READING.

If anyone is EVER thinking of buying this app, DONT. DONT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. DON'T LET A SINGLE ELECTRIC PULSE THEOUGH YOUR BRAIN LEAN SLIGHTLY IN THE FAVOUR OF INSTALLING THIS APP

Children should NOT be forced to read

Children should NOT be forced to read. Studies show that reading for fun is one of the clearest indicators of a more successful education. However, in forcing us to participate in comprehension exercises that SUCK the joy out of reading through a text like nothing else, we only harbour more and more hatred towards reading in general. Our brains do not discriminate between Sparx "reading" and normal reading. If you're looking to end up with an illiterate year group trained to despise reading in all its forms, Sparx reading is a great place to start.

Corrupt and very stress inducing.

In my school, they implemented this and it was HELL. I had to get 600 SRP which would usually take me 2-3 hours of straight stress and boredom, then they reduced it to 300 which i half-settled with. But after they raised it back to 600 I just gave up and endured the scolding from English teachers. The app is so corrupt towards students, as to schools and staff, it looks like a useful reading app that encourages reading and even emails parents when they requirements aren't being met. And sparx gets money for schools implementing it. Yet, for students. It is a multi-hour chore that has no fun in it whatsoever and is unimaginably stressful. It is a ploy for money with not remotely any care for students' wellbeing or quality of life. In fact, the only reason the company is still afloat is because nobody would trust teenagers and their opinions on homework. Even though there are hundreds of adult-signed petitions talking about how their child has had breakdowns and anxiety attacks from the app, they just continue to ignore it. The experience is so horiffic that I myself have decided to completely give up on homework whatsoever and take the punishment.

This website needs to be abolished

I can confidently say that Sparx Reader is the most horrible homework website I have ever dealt with. Teachers claim it should take 30 mins to achieve 300 SRP for your homework but it took 1 hour 30 minutes. The books do not suit my interest. This website makes something that I already find difficult even more infuriating. So be warned if your school decides to use Sparx Reader, your in for an emotional 5 years.

They do everything wrong.

Can someone explain to me, why this medieval TORTURE device exists? Sparx, you are a disappointment. You expect us to read 5 paragraphs, then ask us questions from the very beginning? We don't have photographic memory. We don't need to get 100% on questions to show we have "understood" the book. Speaking of which, it doesn't even listen.

I specifically said that there should be no romance, only action books, but this absolutely horrible website refuses to listen, even when I reset it, it is still showing me stupid books, like the "Monster Spotter's Handbook".

There should probably be an update where no questions are asked, considering that most people would probably change the book if they hate or don't understand it. Also, include a search bar so that kids can actually read what they want to read, like Oxford Owl at one point in my life (I think)

I admit it normal reading is fun but..

Blumming rubish.I admit it normal reading is fun but being foreced to read and nkt being able to choose the books other than 6 choices. It takes almost an hour to do its way to hard and the xp mechanic and the questions just makes the children read quicker to get it done and nit acctually take in the book. By the way this is a review from a child that uses this website
