Don't bother with Scottish Power

If you are thinking of swapping supplier to SP I wouldn't recommend it.
I moved house and found I was on a pre-paid meter. SP said they could switch it over in 11 days time. I spent hours on the phone when my credit finally ran out and they hadn't switched me over. Very poor customer service, not UK based. When I said I using emergency electric and what would I need to do if that ran out, the advisor literally said 'uh..oh'
I booked 2 engineers appointments for another issue, neither arrived and no contact since.
I've just received a bill for the period of time I had pre-paid for electric!

One of the worst energy companies

One of the worst energy companies: numerous power cuts, poor communication and laissez-faire attitude.
What can you do?
Nothing, because they are unaccountable and privatised, so just suck it up and pay your bills on time.
That's Broken Britain for you.

We have had an ongoing servitude claim…

We have had an ongoing servitude claim with SP energy networks from January 2025 . Throughout this time we have been advised that Scottish Power are “ painfully slow” .
This stimulated a complaint last week as await resolution . We were informed the complaint was at Stage 1 . The complaints process means we have a further 4 working weeks before we would near escalation to a “ senior manager” . I fully intend complaining to the Energy Watchdog to seek investigation and recognition of the wilful and deliberate conduct by SP Energy to be “ painfully slow” . This approach is disrespectful and definitely designed to undermine customers who seek a servitude for utilisation of land from SP Energy. Not withstanding resolution I intend to very publicly expose their inefficiency and deliberate non engagement with customers .
The lack of governance and or accountability needs investigation via their board and ultimately regulatory bodies.

I needed help with a meter problem that Scottish Power was unwilling to help with.
I was helped by the lovely Kerry. She kept chasing things for me and keeping me updated. My customer service experience was great.

Great service that shows genuine customer care.

Due to a faulty electricity meter (burned), we had to call the 105 emergency service. ScottishPower responded incredibly quickly, arranging for an electrician to attend within an hour.

After inspecting the meter, the electrician confirmed it was unsafe and had to disconnect the electricity supply until our energy supplier, Octopus Energy, replaced the meter. This is where our experience became very different.

Despite the property having no electricity, Octopus was unable to deal with the situation efficiently. We received conflicting information from different customer service representatives and were told they needed a report from ScottishPower before they could treat the loss of power as an emergency.

When we contacted ScottishPower again, they explained that they do not issue reports for emergency call-outs because their electrician are focused on making the situation safe rather than producing paperwork. However, once the representative Conan, realized that Octopus would not proceed without written confirmation, he went above and beyond by preparing and issuing a formal confirmation immediately so we could send it to Octopus.

Conan's willingness to help made a huge difference and demonstrated genuine customer care. Compared with the response we received elsewhere, ScottishPower's team was proactive, compassionate, and focused on resolving the problem rather than hiding behind procedures.

A big thank you to Conan and the ScottishPower emergency team for their outstanding support.

Outstanding Service from SP Energy…

Outstanding Service from SP Energy Networks – Special Thanks to James

We recently had an emergency at one of our rental properties when someone stole the property fuse around 9 PM. After contacting British Gas, they advised us to contact SP Energy Networks, and we are so grateful that they sent an engineer named James.

Honestly, words are not enough to describe how amazing James was. He is truly a diamond and a real credit to SP Energy Networks. From the moment he arrived, he was incredibly polite, kind, cheerful, and professional. Even though it was very late at night, around midnight to 1–2 AM, he came with a smile and such a positive attitude during a stressful situation for us.

When James first arrived, he realised he did not have the correct fuse required to fix the issue. Instead of making excuses, he went all the way back to his site to collect the right fuse and returned again to make sure everything was properly fixed. That level of dedication is rare to find.

We had quite a long conversation with him, and he was so friendly, respectful, and genuinely willing to help in every possible way. In all honesty, he is one of the nicest and kindest people we have met in this type of job.

As Bobby and Sons Properties, we want to express our sincere gratitude to James for his outstanding service, dedication, and kindness. We would give him 100 out of 100 marks for the way he handled everything.

SP Energy Networks should be very proud to have people like James working for them — people like him are truly the diamonds of the company.

Thank you very much, James. We are deeply grateful for everything you did for us, and we wish you all the very best for your future. People like you make a real difference.

Great response from crisis centre staff and the teams sent out to give us generators and unearth faulty cable. So far so good, but you cannot fault the workers for their great attitude and working hard to get us power. Hopefully cable repaired before long and the main power re-established. But top marks to SP energy.

Terrible service

Initially service was good. We had a powercut and they came out within a couple of hours to try to repair. It was fairly late so they gave us a generator for that night and fixed the following day. As part of the fix they had to dig up part of our garden and our neighbours driveway - completely understandable.
The issues arose after. We were initially told the work to fix this would be done the following day however when no one turned up for a couple of days we called again and were told the holes had to be left for 3 days incase there were any further issues. Again, that’s fine. After 4 days we called again and were told it was 5 working days that they’d fill the hole. We were assigned a case manager who assured us that the work would be done as a priority.
The following week came and nothing happened at the start of the week. So we called again and weren’t able to get ahold of our case manager but that she would call us back. We tried to call the following day and were told by the person who answered that our case had been closed (not our case manager - she was clearly busy again). Fast forward to now, we’ve called and emails multiple times but haven’t been able to speak to speak to our case manager a single time and no responses to either email or phone. We also keep being told that our case is closed and all work has been complete when clearly it hasn’t!

Great communication and care

No one wants a power outage, but things happen and it’s about how it’s dealt with that matters. Today we had a major failure across a wide area for two and a half hours. However, I had registered as a priority customer as my wife has medical needs and the communication was perfect. I was kept up to date with progress and delays and tonight they even called me to check everything was ok. You cant make better a situation no one wants to be in. Thank you

Serious safety concerns ignored — no SAR response, no accountability

I submitted a SAR to SP Energy Networks in September — they are now over 60 days overdue and still haven’t provided a single document. This is despite serious issues involving MPAN inconsistencies, missing D-flows, and concerns about a potential cross-feed raised by an engineer at the time of disconnection.

My property suffered major damage during the New Ferry explosion, yet SPEN carried out no meter checks at the time. Now I’m trying to resolve long-term supply and registration problems but SPEN simply won’t provide the data needed.

Very disappointed given their responsibilities as the network operator.
I am also being very polite with my comments, I could say a lot more.
