I need to renew 4 accounts and I requested a discount exception since I'm not in a financial position, and they gave me a flat NO.

I have been a Squarespace customer since 2020 and have allowed my subscription to auto-renew each year without issue. My renewal reminder in June 2026 stated that my Basic plan would renew at £276 + tax (£331.20).
When I cancelled the renewal, I discovered that I could immediately resubscribe to the same Basic plan for approximately £172 per year. I then also discovered that the same plan was being offered for approximately £86 under a 50% Off promotion.
So I was being charged almost four times the promotional price simply because I was an existing, loyal customer who allowed my subscription to renew.
When I challenged Squarespace, their explanation was essentially: you’re on a legacy plan, we don’t tell you about cheaper plans.
So apparently Squarespace rewards six years of loyalty by charging you 4x more.
Check what you’re paying. You may be paying a loyalty penalty without even realising it.
Shopify here I come…

I was charged fees after I turned off auto-renew for a cancelled domain. When I contacted customer service he ran me in circles and after 15 mins told me where I could find my very-hidden account info. I disputed their fraudulent charges with my bank, who reversed them. Then I get a nasty, threatening email from Squarespace:
"Disputed charge may cancel your Squarespace subscriptions
We received an open dispute for your Squarespace payment of $16.80 on Sep 24, 2026 regarding your site sepia-krill-9d27.squarespace.com.
The following subscriptions will be canceled if your dispute results in a refund:
– Google Workspace - C025eqwgh
Here’s what to expect if the following subscriptions are canceled:
– Your Squarespace website will be set to private and won’t be accessible from its URL unless you resubscribe
– All your digital product subscriptions and memberships will be canceled, and all of your customers will lose access to your digital products
– Your Google Workspace account will be transferred to Google. To continue using this account, you’ll need to set up billing through Google directly
– Your domain could be registered by someone else or go into a redemption period. If this happens, Squarespace will not be able to reactivate your domain
Once your dispute is processed, there is a chance your payment method will be removed from your site. If this occurs, in order to reactivate your subscription(s), you will need to provide a new payment method."
THIS IS UNETHICAL and bullying a consumer. I will NEVER use your crap company again and will be reporting you.

I have had difficulty with renewing a domain, due to the incomprehensible rules governing domains remaining "dead" for months on end. Squarespace staff did all they could in the circumstances to help. When I was able to renew the domain the help I received from Squarespace staff was excellent.

My experience with Squarespace support was extremely frustrating. I repeatedly completed identity verification and provided the available payment documentation, yet I kept being asked for essentially the same information again. The case was passed between support agents and eventually escalated, but I still could not regain access.
What should have been a straightforward account recovery became an exhausting, time-consuming process. I ultimately decided not to renew and to move my services elsewhere.
Squarespace seriously needs to improve its account-recovery process and the way support handles exceptional cases.
Update to Reply: Your reply is absolutely incorrect and misleading. The case was escalated only to find that your systems have become more complicated, not more customized or customer-friendly. Squarespace intentionally makes the lives of customers difficult. Don't pretend you are trying to resolve the issues, because you're not.

I work in tech, and i never saw a user experience that sucks that much.
Moreover, the customer service is the worst. The domain name of my company expired, and because of the time of responses, i had to wait 2 weeks just to renew it, without any mail/website, nothing. All of my company was on hold because of the slowness of Squarespace's customer service. You guys should be ashamed of yourselves.
It's just because i don't have the time to migrate my domain names that i'm staying for now.

It has taken so long, following so many steps and emails from Squarespace to simply be able to update my billing info so I can renew my annual subscription. It is still not resolved. To protect my domain, I may need to transfer to another company.

Spent 2 days at the beginning of the month trying to log into Squarespace to renew my domain and re-enter correct payment info that already existed on my account. My partner somehow got in and paid it, and felt that all pathways to log into our account were fixed! Worked for about a day now it's not recognizing my email or password and we are unable to access our e commerce orders again! This is beyond frustrating especially after thinking it was fixed 2 weeks ago. Very close to changing platforms for our company

It was great help from Squarespace team. I had forgotten to renew my domain and it got expired. Thanks to the SME, they retained the expired domain before it was sent to the public pool without any additional expense.

We came to Squarespace through the Google Domains migration and entrusted them with managing a substantial portfolio of our domains.
One of our .org domains was renewed before its expiration date, and the payment was successfully processed. Squarespace later refunded the payment because of an issue on their end, causing the domain to expire and taking our website and email offline.
Support acknowledged the problem originated with Squarespace, but the only solution offered was for us to renew the domain again at the new, higher price because their system couldn't honor the original transaction.
The additional cost was only $8. That was never the issue.
The issue was that Squarespace admitted the mistake was theirs but still required the customer to bear the consequences. If that's how one domain is handled, it's difficult to trust the platform with an entire portfolio.
As a result, we made the decision to transfer every domain we managed away from Squarespace. The long-term value of our business far exceeded the cost of simply honoring the original renewal, making this an unfortunate and avoidable outcome.

Forced Google Domains migration ruined a simple service.Finding the payment mechanism to renew my three domains was a frustrating, 5-minute battle inside a terrible interface. Charging $20/year for "ease of use" that doesn't exist is unacceptable—I am turning off auto-renew and leaving next year.

I have been with Squarespace for approx. 4 years for our small business to host our website, about 2 years ago they took over our Domain from Google, we had auto renew set and figured all was good and it has been for the last 2 years. A month ago I started receiving what I thought was scam emails from someone pretending to be Squarespace due to spelling errors in the email ( I was wrong - they're just incompetent) Our Domain went down, our business emails stopped working and I contacted support immediately - I have opened several chats and emails to their AI support with NO response, no help at all. I messaged their Facebook page - again generic response. I have not even received an email address so that I can talk to a human and get help. They sent me an email on my private email address asking me to confirm I will still use them so I clicked on it, it told me my email address was not working (I mean duh.... they're the ones who have control of our domain and emails) so I tried to change my email so they could contact me to my private email - received an error message from their end. I am sitting here with all forms they say they need filled out completed and signed by a JP, the auDA has corrected any issues for us and made our domain completely compliant and Squarespace will still not respond.
Absolutely horrendous support especially in Australia (their live chat isn't manned until 4pm WA time!!!)
As a small business owner with 4 employees and a 7 figure turnover not having our business emails working for days is unacceptable. If the Australian Domain regulation service can contact me via phone in an hour after an enquiry and sort the issue within 2 hours of the initial enquiry surely a company like Squarespace should be able to help in the same timeframe!
Avoid at all costs, choose a website and Domain host that has their support details clearly listed.

I have been a Squarespace customer for several years and this is the third year I’ve experienced problems renewing my .pw domain.
On June 27, before my domain expired on June 30, I contacted Squarespace because the renewal page did not provide any way to pay. My payment card was already attached to my account and was valid. I was ready to pay immediately, but the platform did not allow me to do so.
The issue was not resolved before the expiration date.
Since then I have received several contradictory explanations from different Squarespace representatives:
* that the domain could no longer be renewed through Squarespace and I should contact Tucows;
* that Squarespace is investigating a known issue affecting .pw domains and that the status displayed in my account is incorrect;
* that someone else had likely registered my domain.
At the same time, my websites and email continue to work normally using this domain.
The main problem remains unanswered: how will my domain actually be renewed, and how can I pay for it?
I have never refused to pay. On the contrary, I have been trying to pay since before the expiration date, but Squarespace’s system has prevented me from doing so.
I hope Squarespace will resolve this issue before I lose my domain due to a problem within their own renewal system.

Never had a problem with the Google-to-Squarespace domain transfer situation until yesterday. Customers reported that they were unable to view my Website, that its security certificate had expired. Squarespace has evidently always renewed the certificate, as this problem never surfaced before. But, sure enough, on the Squarespace Website my certificate showed both 'valid' and 'expired.' Chatting with an agent and attempting to fix the problem myself was not fruitful, and I was left with the belief that Squarespace actually can't renew a 'third party' certificate. (???) But the next day, as if by magic, the certificate showed-up as restored and the Website working. I never did get a response to the trouble ticket I initiated, and the instructions for attempting to fix this myself prove above my ability.

I think there initially was miscommunication about my needs and what I wanted. I did not feel that I was being heard in the beginning, but somewhere in the conversation it changed and I was able to get my website back which was always the goal and the priority. I think a more personal interaction is needed when dealing with customer service solutions. The many emails that were sent back and forth could have been remedied with a phone call. I appreciate those who continued to work with me on the case and noted my frustration was because I needed assistance. I almost left Squarespace, not because I did not like the services, but because I felt misheard and that my issue was unimportant in initial conversations. In the end my issue was resolved and I better understand what I can do going forward. I still believe that domains and websites should be in one package so that business owners do not have to renew them separately at two different times. Other than that, I think I am satisfied currently. Thank you.

After several attempts, I was unable to renew my domain name I used for my business more than 10 years. Customer service could not help. They discontinued my domain name on May 12, 2026, (causing great inconvenience) and continued to bill me the following day and in June. Now I am in the process of disputing these charges with my credit card company because I see no way of contacting anyone from Squarespace.
Update: No resolution from Squarespace. They continue to bill my credit card every month for the service they no longer provide, but fortunately my credit card company is aware of the unauthorized charges and they seem to be taking care of it.
