Good product with higher than usual "defect"
Coastal Carolina Wood Products DBA stair-treads.com is a legit company. They sell stair parts. Pricing is very reasonable for finished stair treads. The finish is excellent unless there are imperfections such as knots, cavities or mineral stains. In my experience, their definition of "select" grade is worse than "select" grade of hardwoods you can purchase from Home Depot or other retailers. I believe it is equivalent to "rustic" grade offered by other retailers. This is misleading and probably explains cheaper price.
We ordered about 27 stair treads and had to return 4 for either deep cavity on 'B' side or discolored grey boards. According to customer service this comes under their acceptable definition of select grade. They offered to exchange as long I bear the cost of return. The exchange parts again contained grey board in stair treads. The grey boards stands out like a sore thumb.
I had ordered their sample pack and it did have the color variation but it did not contain any samples with grey mineral streaks, nor did it contain knots or cavities. Knocking 2 stars because of misleading branding of "select" grade.
