Uber drivers/ drivers

Uber drivers, please read the contract carefully before renting!

I had a terrible experience with Stargate Rentals, and I would strongly advise other Uber and private-hire drivers to think carefully before renting from this company.

I rented a Toyota Corolla, registration M70 OUY, and the driver’s seat was extremely uncomfortable, causing me physical pain while driving. I raised the issue with the company and asked to change the vehicle, but they refused.

What made the situation even more frustrating was that a member of staff told me other drivers had previously returned the same vehicle. This suggests they were already aware that customers had experienced problems with it, yet they were unwilling to offer me a suitable alternative.

Eventually, I had no choice but to return the car because I could no longer drive it comfortably.

Rather than showing any understanding, they insisted on enforcing their two-week notice period and refused to refund my deposit. They later offered to transfer the deposit to another vehicle if I rented from them again. Seriously? After the experience I’d had, why would I want to rent from them again?

Another major concern is their rental agreement. I would strongly encourage every driver to read the accident and insurance liability clauses extremely carefully before signing. My understanding of the agreement was that drivers could face a charge of at least £3,000 following an accident, even if they were not responsible for causing it. That is a significant financial risk, and I believe it should be made absolutely clear to customers before they commit to renting.

I understand that companies have terms and conditions, but a contract should not be used as an excuse to dismiss genuine customer concerns. If a driver reports a problem with a vehicle that affects their ability to drive comfortably, surely the company should take that concern seriously and try to find a reasonable solution.

Very disappointing experience, poor communication and absolutely no flexibility when I raised a genuine concern. I would not rent from Stargate Rentals again.

One star.
