First things first: Steel Products Direct is just a trading name of Barrett Steel which has many depots nationwide under various trading names.
The phone number on its website is the phone number for one guy at C Roberts Steel (a Barrett trading name). If he's on holiday, or just away from his desk, your call will just ring out. Credit to him - Alex - when I could get through to him he was a star.
After placing an order you get an automated email but, other than that, you won't hear a peep until it shows up at your door.
I placed my order with a week's notice, and double checked delivery was still on two days before. Day of delivery, not a word. Around mid day I call to check, turns out the driver had assessed my road was "impossible to deliver down" and, rather than calling me first, just drove straight back 30 miles to the depot and knocked off for the day (along with all the other drivers who had 'completed' their runs). Dozens of lorries go down my road every week so this seems like a steaming pile. Also the delivery drivers "aren't allowed to touch the steels" so don't expect them to help you unload at all.
After a few more hours of trying to sort out a re-delivery, decided the best option was to go and collect it myself because I didn't trust them.
Overall this is a company that creates customer problems rather than solves them.

When your order was placed on 9th March for a UB 305x102x33 beam, it exceeded our 100kg handballing limit, which is clearly outlined in our delivery information and Terms & Conditions. At checkout, the "Mechanical Offload" option was selected—this is used to indicate that the customer has the necessary offloading equipment available on-site, as we do not currently offer mechanical offloading services ourselves as standard. This is also clearly stated in our T&Cs.
Our team made several attempts to contact you to confirm delivery details and find a suitable solution, but unfortunately, these calls went unanswered. Once contact was successfully made, a refund was mutually agreed upon and processed immediately.
We take great pride in delivering hundreds of tonnes of steel across the UK daily and always strive to support our customers' delivery requirements to the best of our ability.

What a steel!
We were not looking for anything over 3.5m. Lengths shunned by some steel merchants as being off-cuts and therefore not worthy of doing business.
‘Steel Products Direct’ on the contrary were brilliant. They hadn’t any problems in dealing with us and were exceptionally polite and helpful throughout. Even when they couldn’t cut the holes on time, they kept us informed and reduced the cost.
Delivery was prompt and they arrived on time. The driver helped us to unload and was polite. I suppose an RSJ is an RSJ. But if you want to be appreciated and not fobbed off, then ‘SPD’ is where you should go.

Spent days via email getting confirmation of delivery date then to be told we have to take steal off truck. "Clearly delivery means something different to these people" managed to find solution to the problem to then be handed to a third party who wouldn't deliver. Total waste of time energy and more important money. Steer well clear

As per our website delivery conditions, we cannot allow steels over 100kg to be handballed off the wagons due to health and safety and the onus is on the customer to arrange to remove the steels safely off the wagon. We provided a quote for a hiab delivery, inline with our terms and conditions, which you declined and arranged your own method of removal.
Our driver (yes our driver, we do not outsource anything, we are a large group and have depots all over the country) deemed the method you were planning to use for offloading wasn't safe, and as such, refused to deliver for safety reasons.
We take safety extremely seriously, and the safety of our drivers and our customers is our main concern when delivering steels. If at any point we deem the offloading will be undertaken in a non-safe manor, then we cannot allow the delivery to go ahead.
