Parents Beware: Toxic Environment

Parents Beware – Misleading Promises and a Toxic Environment

I normally don’t post reviews, but after an entire season with Stella Azzurra, I feel obligated to warn other families.

False advertising
From the first meeting we were promised a “holistic academy” that balanced basketball, education, and personal growth. Reality could not have been further from that glossy sales pitch.

Isolation and poor living conditions
The club’s dormitory is in the middle of nowhere. Players are effectively cut off from the outside world, with little chance to socialize or even walk to a nearby town. My son described it as feeling “locked in.”

Fear-based coaching culture
The atmosphere is rigid and intimidating. Players are afraid to share injuries or personal problems because any complaint risks immediate benching. Psychological safety is nonexistent.

Sham academics
Despite promises of a solid school program, the boys attended in-person classes only once or twice a week. The remaining “online lessons” were poorly organized and barely supervised. Educational standards were abysmal.

Overall impact
Instead of developing as an athlete and student, my son spent the year anxious, isolated, and academically behind. Sending him here was one of the worst decisions I have ever made.
