AWFUL

AWFUL. I preordered something in September that was supposed to be delivered before Christmas. It never was, and no updates were given about the order. I contacted them in early Dec and then mid-January, asking about the shipping status and if I could get a refund if the date was much farther out.

They refused to give a refund and offered store credit, which I will never use $160 worth of store credit - I don’t play their games and only ordered this item as a gift. They also said the Switch edition was starting to ship so I should just be patient. I had ordered the xBox version, not the Switch version, which was clear in my email so I’m not sure if the versions were on the same shipping schedule or not. It’s now mid-May and I have heard nothing from them - no updates whatsoever. I tried emailing and their inbox no longer exists.

I tried disputing the charge with my credit card company in Feb but they disputed my claim and the charge stayed. So at this point they’ve taken $160 and and 8 MONTHS later I’ve never received the item or even a single update about my order or how long it might still be delayed.

RIDICULOUS. I’ve never had an experience like this with any other company or retailer ever.

Terrible Customer Service

The product was as described but they do not care about their customers at all. They ship with the most atrocious service available and then expect their customers to still pay the shipping costs when it doesn't arrive until a month later. They would rather lose customers than lose $5-$10 for refunded shipping. Save yourself some time and money and buy their products from a third party like Ebay or Amazon or another site such as Fangamer. Do not shop from this site.

Too expensive, and overcharging for basic services

I was going to buy a product, that by itself was 250$. for this price point the product should be dang good, but it was lackluster. THEN, on top of that they want to charge 30$ for basic shipping with the stipulation that if it's lost or stolen, your SOL, and then say, "well you better fork over another 30$ if you want to be safe."

What scumbags.

Giving a fair score

Giving a fair score, because I was able to fix my issue by contacting via social media, and they resolved my problem very promptly this time, to a satisfactory level, via shipping it finally. I got my package almost immediately because I happen to be located within a certain proximity from where they ship (SoCal), but I am satisfied with my items, and I'm glad I got KRZ just in the knick of time, before the Best Buy copies were released, which is typically what you should expect: I remember the Wonderful 101 kickstarter copies came way before the retail versions (in fact, the retail release date got pushed back and somehow I got my kickstarter copy sooner), and other companies tend to do that, I figure my order was one of those freak accidents in the queue). Just as an fyi, all games from iam8bit directly come with a slightly different boxart, and usually something small inside the case as a little neat gift, such as posters or a patch. Sometimes the difference is completely different exterior box art, as is the case with Untitled Goose Game, but sometimes, it's something as discreet as the interior box art not being blank and actually having some nice printed artwork (as opposed to the Best Buy copies, which may sometimes be blank on the inside). I thought this would have been a whatever for me, but actually, it's kind of neat to have, it does add to the aesthetic of the product and the overall ownership feel. So if you're cheap or missed out on the early pre-orders, I'd go for BB, and if you want the more perfectionist copy of a game, you might want to get it from iam8bit. I believe the reason the shipping queue is so long for some of us is because they also sell a lot of other merch, and they aren't exactly a huge company, plus covid. If you're waiting on a game, I'd say make a fuss if it's gonna be at BB before you get it.

Leaving the old review for the record, but it didn't end completely bad for me, just had to wait, especially because of covid.
OLD REVIEW:
I wish I didn't order games from them. So here goes my story. I ordered some games from them, Donut County and Sayonara Wild Hearts for the N. Switch, before they mentioned they would sell them at Best Buy, so to me, the idea was that they were iam8bit online exclusives. Limited Run Games also sold games like this, but when they announced their partnership with BB, they refunded whoever wanted to cancel prior to the announcement, and they actually mention whether the games will be at BB (with different cover art). That makes sense, if they don't mention it being at BB, and it ends up being at BB, it would be courteous to offer a refund, if they didn't notify the public sooner. That's nice, transparent and simple. So I made 2 orders under the impression they weren't going to be at BB. Later, finding out they would be at BB, I wanted to cancel them, because heck, I had the gamer's club discount at the time, and BB would give me free shipping, it would be nice to save money. Iam8bit said they couldn't, but on the plus side, I would get some 'neat' stuff with their release. I'm thinking, okay, I guess I could bite my tongue. So next, I had the 2 orders consolidated, thinking I could at least save on shipping, which they did, but I got like $2 back from shipping, so was it even worth it, you know? I end up having to wait a year and a half because one game from that consolidated order was super delayed, and they basically ghosted me in the middle when I wanted to undo the consolidated order. Now it's the end of Feb 2021, and on twitter they mentioned they started shipping that last game I was waiting on in January. I was excited! But guess what, so far, no updates to my order, I'm told they're trying their best, and naturally I would think if I ordered from them directly, I should be getting my order before BB, right? Wrong, BB is getting their copies March 2nd. If I order from BB now, I will be getting it sooner than my original order from iam8bit. So I am getting a super late shipment, I have to pay for shipping anyways for 2 orders basically (because that shipping discount was basically nothing in exchange for having to wait like 7 more months), and I'm getting my things after people who ordered on Best Buy. This absolutely sucks. If you want a game from iam8bit, just order via BB. If you want music, check if BB will carry it. Only if you really want that shiny cover art, or meager bits of collectibles, or if there is only a short run of that item and it's only thru iam8bit, such as the Ori collector's edition, would I order from iam8bit, but for stardard editions, which is what I tried to get, just wait on BB. Even if you order a collector's edition, keep in mind it might come after the standard edition, so hopefully you're cool with that. I'm upset for the overall experience. At least I should be getting my things before Best Buy gets the last game, you know?

Don’t recommend buying from iam8bit

I’m pretty sure all of the 4 and 5 star reviews are fake. I wish I had known how unprofessional this company was before I bought anything from them - absolutely no communication as to when you are getting your item, and they only responded to 1 of my emails to them and were generally unhelpful. My product arrival time was delayed 4 months and when I requested a refund because they were not letting me know when I was going to get my product, they refused and still wouldn’t give me a solid date as to when I was getting my product. Definitely don’t recommend the risk in purchasing from this company and I certainly won’t buy anything from them again.

Seven months and still waiting

Still waiting for an undamaged product seven months later.
Ordered a vinyl which was badly scrated and unplayable. They sent a new one but the delivery company didn't deliver it and sent it back (no notifications or requests to pick up, this has never been a problem with any other overseas order I've made and I have done this many times).
Their communication has been very bad, several of my emails went ignored at one poing for six weeks.

I've asked if there will be any form of compesation considering the extreme wait time and what I've had to deal with.
One person said I would recieve a replacement for my damage product as compensation which was laughable since they had already agreed to that months before and that is not compensation.

Since then they just ignore the question and respond with something else. Asked the question about five times now and no answer.
I understand covid-19 has made delivery times more difficult as well as response times but their understanding of customer service is next to nonexistent.
Repeating Thank you for you patience doesn't help when seven months down the line I've still not received the product I paid for and had my questions ignored.

I used iam8bit

I used iam8bit - and everything went well, until it didn't. I have an order that's ~$100+ in value, received tracking e-mail for it but the tracking never started on USPS site (USPS is waiting on item to be dropped off). I attempted to contact support a few times for an update, and finally a refund but they won't respond. I've pretty much lost hope for vinyls/game now.

It's an okay company if you don't have any shipping issues, but if you end up having one you may as well kiss your money goodbye - unless you're lucky to receive a reply. Support is pretty non-existent, which is sad because I like their products, and this would be a 5-star company otherwise - but won't be taking any more risks with them at this point.

Beware.

veeery good customer service

I preordered some vinyls in oktober 2019. After three months I still didn't get anything. I asked on Reddit and the people there already got them.
Then I contacted the iam8bit customer support and they helped me very well! They asked my order number and my shipping address and told me that they would resend the package. Today (27 August 2020) I finally got the package and I'm super happy with it. Special thanks to Michelle, who helped me through the process. Thumbs up from me👍👍

Avoid! Not interested in replying to emails

Purchased Grim Fandango PS4 physical version. It arrived but I missed it so I got a note from postman saying I need to pay £15 for some fees! Game cost me £35 including shipping so if I was to pay that fee it would have cost me £50. Its ridiculous. I ended up not collecting it and after a month I believe it was sent back. Tracking wasnt showing any information that its being returned to seller. So I contacted them to ask for a refund since the game is not with me and is most likely to be returned back to you. It took them days to reply and eventualy they asked me for my paypal address to refund me. I gave them but then it took them even more days to actualy do something with it. In the end I got my refund for game (not a shiping but fair enough, it was stated in their terms) but their lack of interest in replying and total garbage customer service really upset me. I would suggest you to look elsewhere for imports. Its not worth the headache. Simply avoid. Cannot recommend.

The worst customer service of all time.

The worst customer service of all time.

I purchased the Grim Fandango Vinyl set from the website. every single paper sleeve was damaged and torn on the ends. they are completely unwilling to help sort the issue out and refuse to resend new sleeves, or even sell me new sleeves.

AVOID SHOPPING HERE IF YOU ARE A COLLECTOR WHO LIKES TO KEEP ITEMS IN MINT CONDITION.

Please buy all your goods at Limited Run Games, or Mondo for vinyl records and posters. I have had nothing but great customer service from these providers.

Not worth shipping to the UK!

I'm sure it's a better experience if you're ordering within the US, but I would never recommend shipping to the UK...

I'd put off buying their physical copies for months due to their huge shipping fees, but finally gave into temptation and thought I'd "treat myself". It took over a month to arrive, which was to be expected, but it was halted at my local post office until I pay "custom import fees"...

Adding to this rather tedious experience, the box art to the game itself is rather bland, uninspired and far too simple.

This Iam8bit item was already way too expensive as it was, but to add in an extra £22+ for some more fees on top of that, brought it much closer to £70...

I don't mean to sound too negative, but I do regret buying the product now, especially since I do already own said game digitally. I've never had so much issue with any other company, even from the US... It's a real shame.

Vinyl box set delayed for one year

I pre-ordered the Rez vinyl box set long ago. After many stories to the customers of production delays or other issues I finally received the product 1 year later! Before opening the plastic seal I could see that the spines on both record covers were badly split in the center. I photographed the damage and mailed it to iam8bit support. The reply was that it must have been the postal service who damaged in some way, even though I had pointed out to them that the box arrived in perfect condition. Iam8bit then replied with 'hang tight' we'll see what we can do. From then on I heard nothing and further attempts at contact were ignored. These kinds of delays, mismanagement and poor customer support seem to be a reoccurring theme. Sadly I also cannot find one good thing to say about the product I received or the customer service.
