Summerfield Charter Academy Reviews 

Thankful for school choice and the opportunity to learn at Summerfield Charter Academy (SCA). Know it is still a young school, but there seems to be way too much turnover, especially with the middle grades 6-8. It's not fair to the students to have a lack of structure due to constant substitutes for teachers who quit beginning or mid-year. Not a healthy learning environment when that happens. Parents seem to be disconnected leading to a lack of volunteers. There are no family nights at school, there is no fall carnival, the principal seems to not want to take the time to meet parents of his students and get to know them. The school uses color code changes for behavior modification purposes. That's all good, except in theory, color changes don't work well and shouldn't be applied to middle schoolers. The school admin should be a little more creative with behavior mod. I'm certain most 6-8 graders perceive the color changes as babyish and immature. I will say the teachers do a GREAT JOB of making sure a test in one class won't interfere with a test in another class - especially if it is something major (i.e. A unit test). Teachers also do a great job of communicating what's up and coming. Some teachers need to learn how to best deal with middle school boys. Need more male teachers school wide but especially in the middle grades. Overall though, the academics are fine except for the middle school math curriculum. Please consider something else SCA, other than Big Ideas Math. May or may not return for the next school year. SCA has a long way to go to be on the caliber of their sister school in the same County.

The teachers and staff are amazing. I love the parent involvement. We looked into many schools in the area and I'm very happy with our choice. My kindergartener is excelling in language and math nicely.

This is our first year at SCA. We have a kindergartner and a 5th grader that transferred from the Guilford County school system into SCA. Our 5th grader has ADHD and unlike our public school experience, SCA has taken immediate steps to address his academic weakness and is working constantly with us to improve his skills. On the other hand, our kindergartner is advanced in both math and reading. SCA has identified this and has placed her in advanced reading and math classes. There is also a potential for advanced students to skip grades. So far, we are really impressed with the whole SCA family!

This school has been a great choice for us. Our child has been receiving a great education without the stress that he was under at another school. I have watched him grow as a student as well as a more rounded person. He has enjoyed being there and does not want to go to another school, and for a child in middle school, I think that says it all.

This school offers the best education, teachers and staff in the area. We couldn't be more pleased with our experience!

My boys have had 3 amazing teachers. We've had one teacher twice (Ms. Getstner) and love her!!! She the perfect mix of fun and structure. Mrs. Gray is the exact teacher my older son needs to be successful. Our kindergarten teacher was great.

Very strict on the uniform code. Didn't feel like I was heard about my opinion and side. They say willing to work with you but only if it is done their way.
The teacher we had is a great teacher.

Summerfield Charter Academy has been a positive experience for my son's transition from Elementary School to Middle School. The rigor of the curriculum has enabled him to learn a variety of information at a rapid pace. The teachers and staff seem committed to excellence in both children's behavior and academic performance.

This is our 3rd year at Summerfield and we are very happy so far. My child seems to be responding to the curriculum and teachers and is excelling so far. I hope that they continue to do an outstanding job as we intend to stay with them until our guy goes off to high school.

My experience with this school has been excellent. The growth I am seeing in my daughter is outstanding. The parent involvement is also outstanding.

What can I say, the best teachers, best students. Miss Middleton (3rd grade) is the best!
