If I was getting a new sound system again I would think twice about getting Sonos. When it works the sound is great. The Sonos that connects my record player needs throwing, it always seams problematic with it making the speaker go off line a lot. I would have a permanent system that doesn't need constant updates. It also has a 3 second delay from putting the music on and sound coming out the speakers on the record player. Very frustrating.
Sonos used to be the gold standard for premium home audio, but today, they are selling incredibly expensive hardware that is utterly hobbled by broken software and a customer support department that relies on scripted deflections.
I purchased their absolute flagship home theater ecosystem—the new Sonos Arc Ultra soundbar, the Sub, and a pair of Era 300 surrounds. When you spend thousands of dollars on a system like this, you are paying a massive premium for Sonos’s specific philosophy: using artificial intelligence, software algorithms, and digital processing to "fake" acoustic boundaries and create an immersive ambient surround sound bubble. The fatal flaw in this philosophy is that the entire system is entirely dependent on a stable digital brain. The second their software fails, the multi-channel "bubble" completely pops.
And right now, their software is failing miserably. The highly advertised "Advanced Trueplay" acoustic room calibration completely refuses to function on a modern iPad, trapping users in endless, frustrating error loops. Even worse, the system suffers from an egregious Bluetooth processing bug. When you stream music from a phone via Bluetooth, a software glitch forces the rear speakers into aggressive, full-blast stereo mode. The toggle in the app literally claims it is on "Ambient," but the hardware completely ignores it, creating a muddy, low-level audio mess right behind your head. I had to bypass Sonos’s heavily marketed "AI" completely, act as my own manual audio engineer, and force the rear speaker levels down to -10 just to get a balanced, front-focused soundstage.
A quick search on Google and dedicated AI forums reveals the most insulting part of this entire experience: these exact software glitches and calibration failures are widespread, well-documented bugs that users have been screaming about for well over a year. Sonos knows exactly what is wrong with their ecosystem, yet they continue to sweep it under the rug.
When I escalated these issues to a Level 2 Tier Tech Support representative, I was treated to the ultimate corporate runaround. Despite explicitly informing the tech that I have a brand-new, top-of-the-line AT&T Quantum Fiber Wi-Fi 7 network with a dedicated repeater and a flawless, blazing-fast signal, the rep spent the entire call desperately trying to blame my internet equipment, demanding router model numbers, and reading from a script. It is a blatant deflection tactic designed to gaslight the customer and avoid admitting that Sonos’s own coding is fragile and broken.
I am currently testing the manual overrides I had to invent, but I am heavily debating taking full advantage of my retailer's 60-day return policy to pack this entire system up and swap it for a hardware-driven brand that relies on actual physical channels rather than broken software tricks.
If you are thinking about buying into the Sonos ecosystem, be warned: your top-tier home Wi-Fi network will be blamed for their broken app, and you will be left acting as an unpaid beta-tester for a multi-thousand-dollar system. Fix your app, Sonos, and stop insulting your customers' intelligence.
From the time we opened the packages to the time we were using the system the process was simple and efficient. When fully installed and the app as our guide the system worked well and sound incredible. This is my first Sonos experience and will be adding more pieces as we go on and eliminate many of the other sound bars and speakers we have.

The speaker is a great speaker. I like the option of having a recharging station. The only thing I wish had had it had an option for a wired connection. The speaker sounds awesome and surprisingly great base

Horrendous customer service. I ordered speakers for next day delivery. Still nothing over two weeks later. They ignore emails at all levels of the company. I chase daily. Send updates to the CEO and other board members. They just don’t care and ignore basic customer service. It’s just rude! Existing speakers are fantastic- but what’s the point if they ignore you when you have an issue. Update. Received finally. Offered 20% off another order 😀. Declined. Works very well with other speakers but not going through all that again for eg a portable speaker. I’ve spent well over a thousand with them already. Hopefully that’s the end of the experience

I’ve had the system for five years. The first few years it was wonderful. I have a sound bar and six speakers for the last year at least it has been increasingly frustrating. It drops out in the middle of songs loses its connection cuts off different speakers a different times. I have been abandoning the app lately and just going straight to Spotify to play my music. I invested a lot of money in the system and now stuck with it, but the app is really pathetic now.

I just recently purchased the Sonos Arc Ultra, 2 x ERA 300 speakers and Sonos Subwoofer and I have to say it’s absolutely brilliant. I don’t know why I waited so long to purchase this. TV programmes, movies and music have not sounded this good in a very long time. The Ultra alone is really powerful but the subwoofer takes it to another level when listening to music and watching movies. The ERA 300 really add to the surround sound effect. I highly recommend this set up for all medium and large rooms!
