I bought car insurance online from Tesco last year, which was competitive. This years renewal was almost double last years premium. I assume companies think people will simply except the renewal price. I found similar cover through Direct Line for slightly less than last year’s price.

Tesco/Allianz Travel insurance - absolutely shocking service! Had to call emergency medical assistance today after falling out the shower. Despite having an active policy i had to go through all my details again standing in midst of a hospital upset and in agony after a fall. Assistant then says IF the claim is successful- what’s to query? Fall- break - needs treatment- had insurance. That should be end of story but despite having medical exemption for numerous existing conditions they are now dredging through my medical records to see if they can find a get out clause so now i get to worry for the remainder of the holiday about possibly facing a medical bill upon my return home. Absolutely shocking service!!!! And certainly NOT what I need at this time. Jeez can you imagine had it been something life threatening!!

Disclosed pre-existing medical conditions and the insurance was accepted.
Confirmation email said "You will not be covered for any claims arising as a direct or indirect result of the following (basically any medical event) in the 12 months before taking out this insurance policy or booking your trip (whichever later). So insurance was well in place - 'later' being when insurance was taken out (3 weeks ago). Then comes a medical event two days before setting off!
12 hours in hospital where all tests found nothing. Given all clear to travel and referred for a gastroscopy on return.
BUT Page 4 of Tesco's Medical document says to call their medical screening helpline on 0345 030 6124 before starting a trip if:
- you experience new symptoms or have an undiagnosed condition;
- you receive in-patient medical treatment; or
- you are placed on a waiting list for investigation or medical treatment;
So duly phoned and was informed by a very unsympathetic call handler that anything relating to an undiagnosed condition or symptoms under investigation is not covered! As hospital has approved the trip then its a personal choice not to go, so holiday cancellation losses are not covered.
Not being a risk taker, will not go out of UK when there's a gaping hole in medical cover!
Thanks for nothing Tesco! No holiday, no refund, nothing..
the website was easy to renew my policy, plenty of communication via e-mail would recommend them for car insurance and this year first time ever my policy went DOWN instead of rising

They were great when someone reversed into my car - even on a bank holiday weekend, the claim was progressed. Everyone I spoke with was friendly and helpful and made the process less stressful.
