This site is not worth the money, it was excellent but since they do not have a dedicated reporter for the Stl Cardinals it is not as good

I have been trying to cancel my subscription from these criminals for almost a year. They say they can’t find my account to cancel it. Don’t do it don’t get this subscription. Be the worst thing you’ve ever done. I’m probably going to have to cancel my bank account because of these people.

Stay Away

Great journalism but technically, they don't have their act together. Can't get any email notifications and support just stops responding after a while. Of course, they refuse to give any sort of a refund.

As per everyone else on here I've been…

As per everyone else on here I've been scammed by The Athletic. A business model based on duping the customers through dishonest auto-renewals that you didn't ask for and then can't cancel is simply fraudulent. Feel bad for the journalists who may not realise they are working for what must be one of the least customer-friendly organisations out there.

Full on partisan political outlet these days

They have become a full on political outlet pushing truly absurd and outrageous political agendas. They have hired a number of pro BLM writers (says it in their profiles) who push truly mad agendas such as calling it racist to boo a player of a certain colour (but not when they’re another colour) and calling clubs racist for not hiring more managers who are a certain colour. There is zero foundation to any of their claims and they just offer a totally biased and outright false narrative, refusing to acknowledge any other sides of the argument. Feels like I have subscribed to the BLM newsletter and have now unsubscribed, as have many others I know. If you want to become a totally partisan media outlet pushing completely false and unfounded agendas then you will continue to lose more and more subscribers. Utterly ridiculous

Auto-renew scam

Same deal, was auto-renewed with notice in Jan 2023, and tried to cancel immediately, and was denied. I see there is a class action regarding there auto-renewal system in the States.

Have to agree with preceding critical comments. I paid for a trial subscription that i never used & one year later was charged 8x the original price for a renewal with no prior notice. When i discovered this payment, i immediately contacted their site & was informed that i was obligated under their small print.

UPDATE: I was able to contact consumer service & was successful in obtaining a refund! Never give up—keep struggling!

Just a con

Just a con. I cancelled my subscription, my account even says I have no subscription but I have still been charged £60 for a year more. I was paying monthly before and they randomly switch me to an annual subscription at an extortionate price and offer no refund of any sort. The only chance you have is to raise a dispute with your bank or alternatively make a complaint. Just avoid it the content is pretty boring anyway and not better than all the free sites out there.

Add me to the long list of people scammed by this company, no auto renewal notification, the number on the invoice is a non working number. Getting charged 71.99 with no notice is such a ripoff, DO NOT subscribe to this company. No refunds is a great way to run a business into the ground, can’t believe the New York Times owns this company

Scam artists at their finest

Been trying to cancel my subscription because I am still being charged even though it says my subscription is inactive. Customer service is near impossible to find and have a productive conversation with. Kept trying to tell me how to log in. That’s not the problem. The problem is being told I’m not a subscriber anymore and that I won’t be charged, and then being charged. If I could give negative stars I would.

The exact same experience as everyone…

The exact same experience as everyone else on here. £59.99 taken without warning and the lack of transparency and the misleading nature of the 'free trial' was frankly disgusting, especially from such a highly regarded journalistic source. Despite them making it nigh on impossible to chat to to CS, do not give up! I messaged them on Twitter and sent numerous emails using the form with different headings on each. Hailey got back to me and was really lovely to be fair to her and has actioned a refund, just waiting to see whether it reaches my bank account currently...so I am slightly conflicted as once I had made contact with CS, the issue was resolved immediately and plesantly.

Scammers

Scam company. Free trial turns into a £59.99 one time payment. Guess they learned from Adobe how to swindle people.

Unfair Changing Policies and Rates!

Its obvious that based on the BBB complaints that I am not the only customer of The Athletic that was automatically invoiced for an entire year at almost double the rate of previous years. Though I signed up for aut0-renewal, I believe that the price change should be stated and should give the customer a right to cancel since they changed the terms. I cancelled my account and then was advised by customer service that the annual cost is not refundable. That is not right and I will not return and will pull back all the orders I gave as gifts. Lets hope someone at The Athletic changes there policy or the BBB gets involved!
