do not take your pets to this vet

do not take your pets to this vet
I am very disappointed with my experience at this vet. I adore my dog with all my heart, but she was very sick and couldn't walk or jump. I knew something was wrong because she is usually an active dog that loves to play. When I took her to the vet, a male veterinarian diagnosed her with a slipped disc. He didn't even offer to do an x-ray to see how severe the condition was. His only recommendations were to spend 40000 on surgery or to put her down.

I have since booked an appointment with another vet, who was surprised that the first vet never performed x-rays. My dog means everything to me, and I believe that a veterinarian should genuinely care for animals, rather than just being focused on making money from the suffering of pet owners

When it’s your last moments with your pet…

We have been blown away by the genuine caring staff at the Avenue Clinc. We had to have our car out to sleep and as this is a sad time for us the nature of the staff, and not rushing the last moments, was so thoughtful. Then today we received a sympathy card with wild flower seeds. So thoughtful and highly recommend this vets.

Our dog had a tumour and fortunately we…

Our dog had a tumour and fortunately we got her through Xmas and the New Year. Last couple of days , she was going downhill, we spoke to the vet and made an appointment, he told us it would be done privately, taken into a room, great care would be taken to help us. Our appointment was made for 12.40pm today, they said it would be a quiet time. The place was full! My dog was in distress and I couldn’t sit with her in waiting area. I went in and told receptionist, she replied, we are running behind. I said but you gave me this appointment and I was told everything would be ready? She then said , you can sit here in reception, I said my dog is in distress, she cannot sit here. I will wait in the car, she replied , someone will get you.
15mins later someone shouted over to car , to bring her in. We were taken into the room where nurse said , today is the day!! What a statement? Thank goodness I arranged to get her picked up almost immediately, so disappointed in their service and care.

This is a wonderful practice

This is a wonderful practice. The level of love and concern for the animals by vets, nurses and receptionists is truly heartwarmingly outstanding. A very special thank you to Nicola and Charlie for being there for Marmaduke and caring for him, supporting him first through major surgery, and later through a long terminal illness. I am eternally grateful to them.I would give a hundred stars if I could!

Great experience

As always the team at avenue vets were very welcoming. The vet spent the time needed to win over my new huskie. He was also happy to listen to the events surrounding my recent loss of my dear huskies with compassion.
After all the kindness shown to me and the excellent care my pets have always received there i had no hesitation is registering my new dog with them

wouldn’t go anywhere else!

Always an absolute pleasure visiting the avenue vet. we recently saw dr becky who was so patient and helpful, even when our cat was being naughty!

it’s been a tough time for vets due to a shortage across the country so some aspects of service are slower, but it’s to be expected! the receptionist / nurse staff always give plenty of advice and advise on availability.

i really couldn’t go anywhere else!

I wish to share the shocking experience…

I wish to share the shocking experience I had with this practise today.I live around the corner and have two dogs and a cat myself and an absolute animal lover. On my way back from a shopping trip I came across a very old dog with cataracts in both eyes and wearing a collar. At first I assumed it was someone on way to Waitrose as dog was walking v slowly but within seconds realised this poor vulnerable animal was either lost or abandoned.I came across a lovely lady who was close to the block of flats near Waitrose and asked her if it was her dog.She informed me it wasn’t but she has a Doberman and had the lead in her car and she would get it.She informed me her daughter lived in the block of flats beside Waitrose.

This kind lady went to her car got the lead and I stayed with the little dog.We walked together towards West Ealing station and she went to The Avenue Practise for what she hope would have been some help and I went home.

When I got to my house I called up The Avenue and had a horrific experience with the gentleman who answered the telephone.I was merely calling to see how the dog was and if they had managed to contact the owner hoping he was microchipped. What I was confronted was a most obnoxious man who was more interested in dealing with his customers than the concern of a lost/missing dog.

All he could tell me was how rude the lady was who had brought the dog in which I was shocked at given she had gone to so much trouble to help me and the dog.

He told me he told the lady she couldn’t leave the dog there and the dog isn’t their responsibility.Whilst I accept a vet is under no obligation to take the dog I ask where is the empathy or compassion for such a vulnerable animal and so elderly.

I can honestly say living around the corner I am so grateful I have never used this practice and I wish to point out also when expressing how unhappy I was at the situation the man in question could only tell me he had two people waiting to be served and wasn’t prepared to talk to me anymore.

I am frankly stunned at the treatment I received from this practice when all I was doing was checking on the whereabouts of a poor animal.

Reply from The Avenue Vet

Thank you for taking time to leave us a review about your experience at the clinic. It appears that you are not a registered client of ours.

The version of events that actually occurred are different to your review.

Firstly, I must state that it is not possible for veterinary practices to hold on to stray animals, we do not have the facilities or staff for this as we are busy treating sick and injured patients.

The receptionist scanned the dog for a microchip which it did not have, informed the member of the public who brought in the dog about this, and then provided them with information and contact details for the council, as it is their responsibility for collecting stray dogs. The dog did not present with any concern that required veterinary attention.

During your phone call, the receptionist did not pass any comment to you about the behaviour of the person who brought in the dog. We are an incredibly busy clinic, and it is not possible for us to spend a lot of time discussing the outcome of non-clinical matters with members of the public. The receptionist was required to continue with their tasks.
Lastly, your tone was not appropriate and so the receptionist informed you they were terminating the call.

We have reunited many lost microchipped pets with owners, but if the animal is not chipped - then we will happily provide information and contacts to aid in the animal being collected.

New Customers not welcome here

I just moved to the area and was told to ‘look for a different vet’ if I was unhappy. Practice Manager, Billy , told me he would call me back about the bi weekly care my pets needed to see if the vet could provide it (specialist needs). I never heard back and when I called back he said he would need my number again and had not spoken to the vets. I questioned if he had saved my number in the first instance (I am a data protection officer and was concerned about duplication) and he told me if I was unhappy I could find another vets. He repeated this advice three times when I asked to escalate and / or for the vet to give me a call. At one point he told me they would prioritise the animals in their care over a conversation with me as if I had ever called that into question and simultaneously forgetting about the animals I was trying to place in their care.
In short, he had clearly forgotten altogether about my call, has misplaced my data and rather than admit his fault decided to berate a potential client and forcefully tell them to choose another vet.
I am appalled.
I had the phone on speaker and my partner - who leads Customer service in a financial exchange was equally distressed by the treatment of a potential client.
I guess my rodents will not be treated there. I’m only relieved that it was not life threatening treatment they needed as it is clear the Manager of this practice would have put them in jeapordy with his lackadaisical approach.
Very upset and disappointed.:

Update in line with response: At no point was I offered a call back from anyone. Whether that be in 24 - 48 hours or any time scale at all. I was told at no point was I allowed to talk to the vet and that there were no staff members higher than Billy.

Reply from The Avenue Vet

This prospective client called our clinic with a non-urgent enquiry. Her telephone number was noted and it was agreed she would be called back with an answer.

Having not received a reply the following day, she called again. She was suspicious and immediately assumed our staff member was lacking rather than doing his best to assist her. Her assumption was that her previous call had been forgotten and she also questioned whether her contact number had been noted in the first instance. She had an expectation of being able to speak directly to the vet or another staff member and would not accept that this could not be arranged at that point. She was informed that another clinic might be able to meet her expectations and also the option of escalation by emailing us but she declined and hung up the phone.

Our clinic is busy and we are a very small team. We receive a large number of enquiries on a daily basis and do our best to answer questions from clients and non-clients as efficiently as possible: we are currently replying to the majority of enquiries within 24 hours but we ask people to be understanding that, due to social distancing requirements, most of our client and patient interactions are taking longer and require more staff members and that this has an effect on our response times. We prioritise the time for registered pets that need medical treatment or advice and the patients that we are seeing on the day.

When we are not able to meet expectations, we continue to suggest prospective clients make enquiries elsewhere - and are happy to provide guidance as to the most appropriate options. However, contrary to the title of the review, we welcomed six completely new clients in the two following days.

Telephone numbers are not saved until client registration has been completed. We have policies in line with GDPR legislation, including for the use, retention and removal of data.

All our staff members are trained and very experienced in triaging calls based on urgency and we always ensure that genuinely urgent situations are seen in an timely manner.

A satisfactory professional relationship between a client and his/her veterinary surgeon must be founded on the basis of mutual trust and confidence. We will do our part to earn and maintain those while asking for respect for our staff members, decisions and advice.

Excellent

Excellent, honest, vet. Friendly staff. We, sadly, had to have our beloved cat Figaro put down last Saturday. He was 20. Thank you Roland for taking such good care of our Figaro in his final years and for a compassionate attitude on Saturday.

Excellent vet for anxious dogs!

We have been extremely happy with The Avenue Vet for the last 3 years since we have adopted our second dog. Roland is always very pleasant, warm, professional knowledgable and efficient. One of our dogs is very anxious and the other is fear reactive and they always accommodate our needs. We cannot imagine going anywhere else. In fact, it would be so much more stressful experience. We also really value the fact we get to see the same vet which is crucial in having fearful and anxious doggies. As always thank you to Billy too who is always super friendly and efficient. If he tells you he calls back he will call back.

Great experience of having my chinchilla checked by Dr Roland Sabin, with a thorough, stress free, unrushed examination and professional advice. A very clean, contemporary, trustworthy practice.
