The Century Company was born in 1881, in the golden age of American letters the house that published Mark Twain, Ulysses S. Grant, and Theodore Roosevelt, and held to a single conviction: a book is not merely a product to be sold, but a work meant to endure. In 2026, we revived that name in tribute and in quiet defiance of what independent publishing had become. Too many of today's authors are caught between two bad doors: a traditional industry that won't open, and a vanity-press machine that takes their money and returns very little.
