Stopped For Lunch Stayed For Dinner

While out for a nice run we dropped in to the Hollybush Inn, since its Dec 2025 thw whole place is covered with Christmas dec's all tastefully done, making the whole atmosphere warm welcoming and a really lovely place to be. we were seated by the window with a gorgeous view of the moors (just a pity it was kinda dull and dreich looking) it's Scotland after all... we got the menu and we both picked duck breast with creamy mash and veg. by this time we were both rather hungry, plates arrived all looked lovely, until we started to tuck in to our duck,......all I can say is what a disappointment!! the duck was chewy and difficult to cut even with the steak knives supplied, the skin was pale and chewy and rubbery and hadnt been rendered down, so wasn't pleased. fair enough it was tasty so that helped (kinda) after this the puddings we'd ordered seemed were going to be not up to much, but how wrong was I, the sticky toffee pudding was out of this world, had 4 slices of homemade loveliness with strawberry, red and blackberries and sauce and ginger soil and toffee ice-cream, and the missus had apple n Berry crumble with extra strawberry and red currents with homemade vanilla custard and vanilla icecream, this was also to die for, I gave ma partner some of my pudding, and for the 1st time since I've known her (+35 yrs) she couldn't finish it either cause of the generous portions. went and paid the bill £ 72 for both which included 3 soft drinks tea and coffee ( which the other half said was the best coffee she'd tasted in a long while except for mine obviously!!) I'd give them a 7/10 overall good, but can be tweaked for the better.

Avoid unless the proprietors have changed management policy

I had a room here on 21st May 2022 for one night. I was in need of a room following a wedding bash up the road. The place is lovely with plenty of old-world charm and my room was small but comfortable.. I got to bed about midnight after a long day, looking forward to some serious zzzzz's. No chance! I'm not sure what the feck was going on but every few minutes or so there was a loud banging noise which may have been a door slamming, that reverberated through the whole building. Sleep was impossible.. Things quietened down by about 2am so I was able to get a couple of hours of snooze - but at around 4:30 the fire alarm went off!! So that was that. Whilst evacuating I passed Johnny? on the stairs saying 'its OK someone's left the oven on on the top floor'. Cant say that filled me with much confidence..
So in summary Johnny/Sam if you want the Hollybush Inn hotel side to be a success in the future you need to stop abandoning your guests once the pub closes.. Unless you can respond positively to this criticism I'd recommend everybody avoid your gaff like the plague...
