A more normal everyday life!
A few years ago after undergoing many medical tests, I was eventually diagnosed with IBS and potentially histamine overload issues. I was given much documentation about the conditions and sent back home to deal with complex symptoms on my own.
After much research online as one does, I recently found Kirsten Jackson the ibs dietitian. To my knowledge she is the only registered dietitian currently offering step by step programs helping IBS sufferers.
Having recently finished three months on Kirsten's 1 to 1 support program I am able to say that it has been extremely beneficial in sorting out the management of my symptoms.
Kirsten has a lot of experience, is extremely knowledgeable and her recommendations are always backed up by science. She is also very kind, understanding and non judgemental when one feels rather reluctant describing amongst other things embarrassing gut symptoms.
Thanks to her expertise plus weekly check-ups and adjustments on food re-introduction trials, I now have confirmation of my histamine overload issues and food tolerances. The invaluable professional help and advice she was able to give me throughout the process have made a massive difference to my everyday life. I am now able to manage my symptoms on a daily basis a lot better than trying to understand and deal with all the complicated mechanisms of brain-gut reactions all on my own.
Deciding to go on Kirsten Jackson the ibs dietitian's 1 to 1 support program was the best move I made these past few months. Although not a cure, I have no regrets as it definitely gave me back a much improved and more 'normal' everyday life.
Supportive dietician
I loved working with Kristen. I have a very complicated work and life routine and she was able to support me incredibly well to help with my issues.
She was very kind and understanding and I felt very seen and looked after. All her goals for me were so realistic and easy to manage!
Amazing program for managing IBS
I have been suffering with IBS for over a decade, controlling my symptoms with very severe dietary restrictions. I have tried many different options to manage my symptoms with no success. I enlisted Kirsten's 1 on 1 program for 3 months and, the results were amazing. I now have a much more varied diet and a much better understanding of my symptoms. I had gained a lot of knowledge over the decade I have suffered with IBS but was unable to find an effective way to manage my symptoms. Kirsten's is very knowledgeable and engages with you to ensure she offers the exact support you need.
IBS pain-free
When I came to Kirsten, I was a bit lost. My IBS diagnosis felt like the one you get when they’ve run out of tests and ideas. At the same time, I was both overwhelmed by the amount of informal IBS advice on the internet and underwhelmed by the advice I got from doctors. Kirsten helped me by identifying what was useful information and what should be ignored. She also added her own deep knowledge and experience on the topic as we worked together for three months. In that time, I went from clueless and in daily pain to understanding what works for me, and as a result, I am now free of IBS symptoms. I would whole-heartedly recommend Kirsten’s services to anyone who is struggling with IBS.
Life changing!
Kirsten is great and you really will not regret signing up for her help! I did the private sessions and she made me feel immediately comfortable and completely understood what my aims were. The solutions to my issues were things that I would have been very unlikely to figure out myself and with her guidance I didn't actually need to do the full low FODMAP diet or anything particularly restrictive to make a massive difference. Although it is an investment, if you're like me and have just been putting up with gut symptoms for years and years, I'd urge you to go for it.
Kirsten is a blessing!
Kirsten is a blessing. My doctors were providing me with generic flyers about my new IBS diagnosis, but I was doing shift work for 60 hours a week and desperate for individualized care. Kirsten helped me to manage my exercise, sleep, meditation and diet, as well as figure out my trigger foods, all while being just so superbly kind and professional. I now feel informed, empowered, and best of all: well! I am immensely grateful for her expertise and guidance.
I finally feel I can manage my symptoms with confidence
Joining the Take Control Programme was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. That may sound like an exaggeration, but I’ve lived with ibs for so long, (I’m 67) putting up with the feeling of fear, anxiety, stress and pain when I had to step outside of my home for work, travel, socialising. Dreading the bloat and oncoming pain which meant the embarrassment of finding a toilet to rush to. Hoping no one was there.
So I came across you on Instagram and followed you for a while. You understood. You suffered this yourself. And I took the plunge and joined the course.
I never understood what was happening to my gut before or why and how certain foods triggered symptoms. Also how lifestyle choices could impact my gut brain axis. But the Take Control Programme takes you through each stage of going back to a low FODMAP base level and reintroducing slowly potential trigger foods. Therefore recognising which foods to avoid and how to manage your diet and lifestyle moving forward.
I just want to tell someone out there suffering, if you’re thinking “shall I do it?” Do it!! Take part in the course. I’m moving forward with so much more knowledge, understanding and confidence that I can finally manage my symptoms.
Highly recommend for IBS sufferers
Joining the Take Control Course is one of the best decisions I have made in my adult life. For several years I have struggled with IBS and felt lost and frustrated that I might never have a grasp on my gut and digestion. I tried various supplements, diets, and protocols on my own, and my GI Dr simply told me to try low FODMAP diet and limit stress. Nothing provided long term relief, and I was left overwhelmed. After having a baby, my symptoms went crazy and I was finally at my wits end and signed up to join. The Take Control course defined IBS, provided guidance for obtaining a proper diagnosis, outlined key lifestyle foundations for a healthy gut, clearly walked through the low FODMAP diet and reintroduced phase, and explained additional research backed strategies for effective management of IBS. On top of all this, and one big reason this course sets itself apart, I was able to join weekly calls or write it regarding ANY question I had throughout the process, and I now how have lifetime access to a group where I can continue to seek professional help and talk with others who are in the same boat. I can’t quite explain the relief and peace of mind this gives me knowing I will always be able to touch base with people who are interested in helping me and who respond so promptly! Doing the low FODMAP process is no joke and can be confusing, and having professional help is in my opinion one of the keys to its success. Because of this course I was able to identify the foods that triggered symptoms (which ended up being fewer than I was expecting to my surprise), and move forward with practical daily tools to maintain a functioning gut. I am so grateful I pulled the plug and joined and would recommend it to anyone who has or suspects IBS and wants to finally get to the bottom of things!
I have just worked with Kirsty 1-2-1…
I have just worked with Kirsty 1-2-1 and I have to say she was fantastic. I have suffered with IBS most of my life and I now know how to minimise the symptoms.
Working with Kirsty has given me the confidence to manage my symptoms and make changes which have improved my life.
After suffering from IBS-D for over 30…
After suffering from IBS-D for over 30 years, and trying different diets and hypnosis, including trying to do the Low FODMAP diet by myself, earlier this year I came across the IBS Dietitian.
I did prevaricate for a while before deciding to get in touch with Kirsten as I'd already worked with others and not got a complete hold on my symptoms and the outlay was fairly expensive. Thankfully I eventually decided to take the plunge and contacted the IBS Dietitian and I'm so glad I did.
I spoke with the lovely Kirsty and for 12 weeks we worked through the FODMAP diet in a constructed manner. Because of timings on my part I didn't fully get to work through the whole programme but Kirsty made sure I had lots of information to finish the course off by myself but knowing she was there at the end of an email if I really got stuck.
I'm currently having sessions with Cheryl, from the IBS Dietitian, working on the CBT side of things, as I realised that my IBS-D isn't all about just food. I get anxious and my subconscious likes to dominate my thoughts at times, so by working with Cheryl I'm hoping I will eventually have this all under control.
Kirsten recently gave me advice, as I was going on a 'Once In a Lifetime' holiday and was really concerned about how I would cope. With Kirsten's advice I had an incredible holiday where my stomach, for the most part, was really calm. I still had to be reasonably cautious about what foods I ate, a lot of chicken and rice, but it meant I could actually get on and really enjoy my adventures.
I'm not totally there yet with control over my IBS-D but I've come a long way from the beginning of my journey with Kirsten and her team and will now follow all the advice I've been given until my symptoms are fully under control. I've also bought Kirsten's book 'Take Control of Your IBS' so I can look things up if, and when, needed.
Thank you to all at IBS Dietitian that have helped me to get this far on my journey!
This experience was life changing.
This experience was life changing for me. As someone who has suffered with stomach issues since childhood, now 34, I can whole heartedly say this is the first time ive found long term relief.
When I say suffered with stomach issues, it controlled my life.
I was skeptical intially as I had tried a multitude of things with no relief and no definitive diagnosis. Countless doctors visits, different medical tests, supplements, and a naturopath. This is the first time in my life I feel confident being told I have IBS but more than that no longer having it control my life.
I would be lying if I said its a simple and easy fix, its a massive life style change. However, the relief you will get from your IBS symptoms will give you your life back in a way you didnt think was possible.
Furthermore, the support you get along the way is compassionate, involved, and extremely knowledgeable. You are never left confused and no question goes unanswered. I worked with Kirsty and she was excellent
I can not say it enough, this program is worth every penny spent. It will change your life.
Highly recommended
From personal experience I can highly recommend The IBS Dietician.
Without Kirsty’s three months of personal dietetic guidance, I don't know where I would be. Suffering with Lymphocytic Colitis and IBS, and despite being on high levels of medication, I had low weight, constant diarrhoea, and intermittent constipation, together with nausea and tiredness. My diet was bland, unvaried, and lacking.
My IBD (inflammatory Bowel Disease) Consultant had left me to identify my IBS trigger foods. I couldn’t sort this out on my own and had approached several dieticians and nutritionists who unfortunately left me on a very restricted and unhealthy diet. If only I had found The IBS dietitian earlier. With Kirsty’s help, I’ve learnt the foods and aspects of my lifestyle which trigger my IBS. I now have a consistent healthy weight, significantly reduced symptoms, and a varied healthy diet. Additionally, I have been provided with a long-term plan to further improve my symptoms and diet, and evidence to discuss my medication issues with my IBD consultant”. A very big thank you. Catherine, Surrey, UK
Thank you!…
Kirsty and Kirsten were so helpful in helping recognize my issues and get me on the right track. I’ve been symptom free for longer than I have been in years and it feels amazing!
Thank you so much!
Trigger warning - eating disorders
I am so incredibly grateful to have worked with Kirsten and I really highly recommend her work and the team at the IBS Dietitian!
I have struggled with IBS for years (unknowingly) and finally received a diagnosis in November / December 2024. I started following Kirsten on Instagram, and found her page very useful amongst all the misinformation around IBS. I didn’t relate to a lot of the stigmas around IBS (being told
to avoid fruit, symptoms such as diarrhoea and stomach pain, etc.), so her page really helped me understand my experience with IBS. I started working with Kirsten in January 2025 with the 1-2-1 programme.
A little bit of background to my specific case - I have IBS C type, which Kirsten helped me to understand was induced by years of disordered eating. Over the past few years I had unknowingly continued quite a disordered way of eating, even after I was well passed my eating disorder, as I had never been taught how to have a good relationship with food - and how to eat properly! I genuinely had no idea how much some one of my size etc. should eat. For example, I would only eat when I was really hungry, therefore I skipped a lot of meals, and I would associate any feeling of fullness with over eating (due to my previous history of bingeing and restricting). This meant I accidentally wasn’t eating enough calories, which (unknown to me) worsened my IBS symptoms, and it got to the point that at the end of 2024 I would be full after eating 1/2 a banana. I was in a very low place, crying every night, feeling full and uncomfortable all the time, barely eating, and I really thought I’d never be able to eat properly again. I felt so sad and frustrated as I finally had a good relationship with food, I wanted to finally start enjoying food!. I just hadn’t realised that my symptoms were due to my IBS, and so needed managing differently.
Since working with Kirsten I now eat 3 regular meals per day - something I have NEVER done!! Even as a child, from around 6 years old, I would skip breakfast, due to being told off all the time for eating too slowly and being late for school. I don’t snack now, I have a great exercise routine, I sleep well, I manage my stress much better, and I’m generally so much happier. I finally have an amazing relationship with food which I’ve wanted for years.
I couldn’t have got to this place without Kirsten’s support. It was so useful to have a professional tell me what to do and not to do in a world of misinformation. I had no idea how wrong I was getting my gut health: not eating enough, skipping meals because I felt uncomfortable, and thought my gut needed to ‘rest’, eating too much fibre! (if anything I increased my fibre after my diagnosis as all the sites online tell you you need to), exercising too much (as I felt so full I thought I must need to increase my movement), drinking too much water (again - without someone properly looking into every part of your diet and lifestyle, generalised advice like ‘drink more water’ can be really problematic). And focusing on all areas of your life, not just food, really helped both my IBS and healed my disordered eating <3
Also, I have a vegan diet, and Kirsten was brilliant at validating my beliefs and ethics, and making it work with my IBS, rather than telling me that being vegan was the problem (which everyone around me kept saying…).
My only feedback would be that I felt like the 1-2-1 programme was a bit rushed, and by the end of the 12 weeks I didn’t feel 100% confident in understanding and managing my symptoms. For example, I was still undergoing the fodmap process (the personalisation stage) and I found it very confusing to manage on my own. My suggestion would be for the programme to last a little longer, maybe an extra 2-4 weeks. Or at least for the option of email check ins, or the ability to ask further questions beyond the 12 week programme. It’s very expensive (as all private health care is sadly), and, even though, it was the best money I spent, given the cost, I would have liked a little more continued support beyond 12 weeks.
I also have remaining symptoms (bloating) which does still really get me down and impacts my body image hugely. Kirsten suspects it could be SIBO, which I’m waiting to get support from via my GP. However, again, to be left to navigate this on my own feels very daunting. I think especially because IBS is so often not taken seriously, when you find proper support from someone like Kirsten you don’t want to be let go!
But despite this feedback, I still can’t recommend the IBS Dietitian team enough. I honestly never thought I could be so comfortable and happy! I still can’t believe that I’m eating three meals a day and have pretty much zero anxiety around food. Working with them is 100% worth it, and I thoroughly encourage anyone struggling to reach out :)
So incredibly grateful and set up with the knowledge and tools for life.
I am so incredibly grateful for the knowledge and guidance Kirsten has provided me. After 3months working together 1-2-1, I actually do feel in control.
I’ve struggled with managing symptoms for the past 10+years, being in a vicious circle with very little if any relief and not being truly confident it even was IBS.
Kirsten has given me this reassurance and relief, she is extremely professional all while being completely human, and has without a doubt changed how I live, for good.
I now have a greater understanding of what I can eat rather than being scared of everything, and that managing IBS goes way beyond just the food you consume, helping me identify and manage these foundations.
I could go on but what I will say is listen to her podcast ‘Take Control’ and get her book and you will know you need to work with her.
Kirsten's Take Control course a must for IBS
Kirsten's Take Control course has been so helpful and enlightening. The course offers so much information, support and resources. I learned so much about my IBS and symptoms and got plugged into a community of support, something I had never had before. I cannot recommend this course highly enough for anyone suffering from IBS! Thanks Kirsten
I contacted Kirsten after previously…
I contacted Kirsten after previously using two other dietitian’s, that although helped, didn’t quite get to the bottom of managing my IBS.
Kirsten doesn’t just look at diet, she helped me correct sleep amongst other things and working together came up with a plan to manage symptoms as and when they arise.
Can’t recommend enough, IBS can really get you down and affect your social life, although I will have flare ups in future, I now have a plan and some knowledge and confidence in managing it alone.
I’m now also eating things and enjoying travel much more than I have in a while!
Don’t suffer unnecessarily - IBS help available
I’ve suffered with IBS for about 40 years. I’ve read a lot about it, I keep my eye out for any new book, and Kirsten’s Take Control’ was the latest one. Her holistic approach struck a cord, and the importance of eating well. I quickly enrolled onto her VIP prog which has been a real eye opener. She’s provided guidance and advice on nutrition and particularly holding my hand as I trudged through the FODMAP diet. If you’re suffering from IBS do yourself a favour and talk to Kirsten - and read her book!
As a long time mild IBS sufferer
As a long time mild IBS sufferer, I found the sessions
with Kirsten very helpful. She gave me the tools to manage my IBS and in general see how fodmaps affect my system. I am really glad I did the three month program. Thank you Kirsten.
Life changing, thank you!
Working with Kirsten has without a doubt changed my life. I’ve struggled with IBS for years and was diagnosed with SIBO in 2023. For nearly a year, I tried various diets, paid for expensive appointments with healthcare professionals, and saw no improvement. I lost a lot of weight and felt depressed and hopeless.
Earlier this year, I met Kirsten and completed the 3 month VIP programme. Along with the help of a gastroenterologist, I have got my life back and found ways to manage my IBS/SIBO.
Choosing to work with Kirsten was one of the best decisions I’ve made. For the first time, I felt truly heard and understood. Kirsten’s holistic and personalised approach ensured that my treatment plan was tailored to my needs, with adjustments made every week. She is extremely persistent and I learnt so much working with Kirsten that is helping me now, and will benefit me in the future. I feel incredibly fortunate to have worked with someone as knowledgeable, compassionate, and dedicated as Kirsten. She has shown genuine care and I cannot thank her enough.
