My order was delivered quickly.
I wanted to buy a Fairtrade duvet cover. I paid double what I would pay at M&S, my usual place to buy such things. However I hope that extra has gone toward helping a needy community. The duvet cover is just as described - the fabric is softer and floppier than M&S cotton - but I am happy with my purchase!

Many thanks Lucy for supporting fair trade and your kind words and many thanks for asking about the product and how fair trade works in this instance. In relation to how our printed duvet sets compare to Marks and Spencers, ours are organic cotton (only 1% of cotton used in the world is organic) – which uses a fraction of the water and no pesticides in its production and is subsequently significantly more expensive. All our duvet sets have a high thread count of 300, which you can only find on some plain sets in Marks and Spencers. Our patterned duvet sets are hand block printed using ancient Jaipur artisanal skills - all patterned duvet sets in Marks and Spencers are mass produced by machine. I am glad that you did notice the difference in quality with our bedding.
In terms of what fair trade means for the workers involved in the production of these sets, Their Story is a member of BAFTS (British Association of Fair Trade Shops and Suppliers) and as such has to comply with a rigorous process to ensure that it is fully complying with the ten principles of Fair Trade in all of its practices and within its entire chain. We tell the stories of the people producing the bed linen in Jaipur and the impact that fair trade practices have on them, these are on our website. In the production facility in Jaipur, every staff member is on a permanent living wage contract and working full time with paid holidays, medical cover for staff and their families, pensions, regular breaks and lunch breaks during the day, no forced overtime and paid voluntary overtime available. During the lockdown for Covid, many high street retailers cancelled and reneged on orders leaving garment workers in Asia destitute. All of our staff in the facility in Jaipur were retained during this period, we are proud to say.

Great fair trade organic bedding
We wanted to purchase a fair trade duvet set but had struggled to find anything contemporary apart from plain white. When we spotted the blue block print design we ordered it straight away. We are delighted with the quality. It’s not heavy cotton but it’s really soft and looks amazing. Once we made our order we didn’t hear anything after the order was confirmed until it was delivered which took just over a week. Highly recommended

The Kalka handprinted duvet cover set is beautifully made - not only the print, but the quality of the sewing is better than I have seen for as long as I can remember.
