I contacted The Lawn Turf Laying Company for a turf installation quote and referenced RTF turf (Rhizomatous Tall Fescue), which is a standard turf specification used for high-wear lawns and sports applications.

The reply I received from Emma literally said:

“I am still unsure what RTF means.”

For a company that claims to specialise in turf, this is honestly unbelievable.

I have been in this industry for over 40 years, and RTF is not an unusual or obscure term. It’s basic turf knowledge.

The quote itself looked automated and didn’t address the details I had provided. When I clarified what RTF turf was and explained that I couldn’t provide photos/videos due to strict privacy and security requirements (this was for a member of the Royal Household), the response I received back was simply:

“Good luck.”

That says everything. No professionalism, no product knowledge, and no customer service.

I would strongly advise anyone considering this company to double-check that they actually understand the turf specification you are requesting before proceeding.

Really efficient service. All my email enquiries were answered promptly and once we placed our order we were kept fully informed about what would happen and when.
On the day the team arrived at the arranged time and whilst our lawn isn't large (about 50m2) I could not believe how quickly the job was done - about 90 minutes start to finish - really efficient and very little mess,
Also, good advice about how to make sure the new turf rooted well and excellent follow up from Emma in the office. 7 weeks on and our new lawn is looking great.
I would thoroughly recommend this company.

Avoid this company like the plague.

Prior to the work being done all appeared good, but they failed to lay the turf as described in their own worksheet. They were on site less than an hour and appeared to be in a rush. They did not compact the rotovated soil, they just raked it level, then added topsoil and raked that level, before laying the turf in different directions with odd patches and offcuts shoved in here and there.

Photos taken immediately on completion show gaps between the turfs and patches of poor cover. the resulting lawn is very uneven and spongy and gives way under foot in a dangerous way.

The situation did not improve afterwards despite following the watering guidelines to the letter.

The company responded to my emailed concerns by just making excuses about needing time to bed in and trying to blame me for not watering correctly. I note from other reviews here that this has been their go-to excuse on other occasions too.

I discussed this with Citizens Advice who advised me to send a written complaint via recorded delivery detailing the issues and what I wanted done to rectify them, which I did, but delivery was declined and it was returned 'gone away', although their website is still live giving the address I used.

Numerous attempts to phone them have been met with the number never being answered, just an answerphone message. It seems they are happy to take the money and run after doing a very poor job.

I would strongly advise you NOT to use this company. The standard of work was very poor and customer service woeful.

I would have given them zero stars if I could. I will be taking the matter further to seek a satisfactory conclusion.

I had a date booked in for October 20th with The Lawn Turf Laying Company after initial contact with them in early September, communication with Emma was quick and easy and everything appeared to be positive. 10 days before the installation date I got an email from Emma at 13:44 to say they would have to cancel due to unexpected paternity leave. I was told both the driver and the Team Leader were the affected parties, I wasn't sure if that was one and the same person, or if they were 2 different people who were both about to become parents or if the driver was married to the Team Leader, either way, it seemed a valid reason for rescheduling so the date was moved by 1 day to October 21st. I made contact again on October 13th, just to check all was on track, and I was told it was. On the 20th October I checked in once more at 14:13 and I was told by Emma all was good. At 19:25 that same evening I got an email from Emma saying virtually the same nonsense about paternity leave and schedules being thrown out meaning my job was cancelled again. If you compare both emails they are pretty much identical and, unfortunately, I found it difficult to believe. I expressed my disappointment and said I no longer required their services and Emma, who previously answered every email at lightening speed, is still yet to respond almost 24 hours later.
Don't waste your time or your money with this extremely unprofessional company.

The gardeners arrived early to lay my turf and only took 90 minutes to complete the job. They tidied up too and did a great job levelling the garden, laying soil and fertiliser and premium turf which looks great after 4 weeks settling in. I would highly recommend this company for clean efficient work and excellent value for money. Thank you.

Great value for money and my new lawn looks excellent. The guys who came to do the job were quick and efficient, and advised on how best to look after the new turf — even helped me choose an appropriate sprinkler. Really positive overall, and I’d recommend to other customers

We recently used The Lawn Turf Laying Co and couldn’t be happier with the results. The booking process was smooth and straightforward, and communication throughout was excellent. Emma was always available to provide guidance whenever we had questions, which gave us great confidence in the whole process.

The installation team were extremely professional and did a fantastic job. They not only laid the lawn perfectly leaving it looking lush, green, and level compared to how it was before, but also shared really useful tips on how to care for it going forward.
We were advised to keep the turf well-watered in the early weeks, especially during warmer spells, and to avoid cutting it too short when mowing for the first few times to help the roots establish properly.

Our new lawn looks absolutely lovely, and it’s made such a difference to our garden. We highly recommend The Lawn Turf Laying Co for their expertise, professionalism, and excellent customer care.

Highly recommend. Very professional service and easy to arrange. The communication at all stages of the job was second to none (thanks Emma!). 3 weeks in and my lawn is lush and is fitted perfectly to my space. Also, very competitively priced.

Everything was great. The initial contact was efficent with good communications. The turf laying was done quickly and well. The grass took really quickly and is lush! Advice and aftercare was good and the price was great. All in all a very good experience.

Initially was very pleased with the new lawn which was laid in May 2025. I have a shady garden and requested suitable grass. The price and the work was carried out satisfactorily with good communications.
However, less than three months on, around 25% of the grass has died, despite constant watering as per instructions. The original turfs have not bedded in properly - and that is the case in places throughout the garden. It is still possible to see the joins.
I am not happy with the response from the Kent Lawn Turf Laying company and consider the exercise a waste of money. Most unsatisfactory and disappointing.

Update January 2026 - I now have a mud patch where originally there was a green garden. There is hardly any grass left and what grass there is is in a worse state than when I originally had the lawn returfed. This is after 7 months. The company is now being non-responsive. Don't waste your money!

We are still waiting for London Lawn Turf Laying Company to replace the low quality turf laid on 1st July. We ordered 30sqm Proshade Turf plus installation and although 75% was of good quality, the remainder was already dry and completely failed to grow despite adhering to the watering regime. 5 weeks on, the 75% of the lawn is in perfect condition marred by the 25% which never grew. It took three weeks to get someone to come out, after one failed visit, they inspected agreed it was their issue but had no turf to repair the lawn. Continual chasing and there is a promise of this Thursday but no confirmation. All in all a lot of hassle for me and very low priority given to fixing their own installation issues. Giving one start until this is rectified.

Our new lawn looks absolutely amazing! The fitters did an incredible job and it didn't really cost that much more than buying lawn and turf separately to lay it ourselves. Customer service has been excellent throughout - they have checked in on us and provided a detailed aftercare plan. I'm so glad we got it done professionally rather than doing it ourselves!

Superb from start to finish, the whole
process was made very simple starting with the quote online, Emma was very helpful throughout booking, and the team on the install day were polite, thorough and nothing was too much trouble. Our garden is transformed, in just a day. Very happy we went ahead with the Lawn Turf Laying Company.

New lawn is looking terrific, really good price too, only wish we had our lawn replaced sooner now.

The original service and price was indeed good. We followed their instructions to the letter but three months after the turf was laid, we went away for a few weeks and came back to turf that was destroyed totally beyond repair.

The lawn hadn’t taken properly at all and birds had ripped it all up. We put up bird deterrents and took photos to show the company the damage but they simply quoted for new turf and didn’t offer to refund or replace the damaged turf. Very disappointed and would not advise using this company

I was VERY concerned after reading some of the poor reviews for this company and it very nearly stopped me using them. I've just had my lawn laid and they did a really good job. I'm very pleased that I decided to try them, I can happily recommend them. They tidied up and left me with info I need to look after it.
