Joanthan was contracted to Wickes as…

Joanthan was contracted to Wickes as the mastercraftsman and the whole experience was a nightmare. He quoted 4 weeks, took upfront payment so he could buy a van for his lad (total error on our behalf, no van ever bought) then stopped turning up. After 10 weeks we asked for a replacement fitter as we had holes in our wall, leaking plumbing, wrongly fitted electrics, a non-level floor that had been spaced incorrectly, holes in our ceiling and a non finished kitchen. He promises so much, pulls out sob stories as to why he can't turn up, makes up reasons for issues not being sorted (too wet, flat tire, family funeral, plasterers back, his back, just never ending) then takes your money and runs. It looks like he's deleted his old companies to hide reviews but i have them screenshotted if anyone would like them. Run and run fast, this man is a charlatan.

Decent Job and Happy

Had a complete new kitchen and utility done early this year. Then a warm roof done on the conservatory and new oak stairs fitted fitted in June. Very happy and no complaints or issues.

Great wardrobe design

I am very happy with the bespoke wardrobe that Jonathan and his team installed in our new home. We were impressed with Jonathan's plans for a wardrobe to fit in the loft with a sloping roof. Jonathan involved us in the design and was happy to adjust his plans to meet our requirements. High quality materials have been used and all the drawers and doors smoothly. On the day of installation the team of men worked with great care. I was most impressed with their professionalism and attention to detail.

Fantastic Team, Fantastic Finish and Extremely Happy

I wanted to take the time to say a huge thankyou to Jonathan and his highly professional, friendly and wonderful team whom came to do my kitchen for me in June. I had the design and kitchen itself from a different supplier, and Jonathan and the team came to install and carry out all the works.
I should firstly say it was a pleasure welcoming the team into my home - as a female who lives alone, it can be quite daunting having workmen come into your house but the team were highly professional, friendly and trustworthy.
My kitchen was installed over 6 days and the finish has been wonderful - Jonathan also kindly put up a splashback for me which I appreciate so much. I highly recommend the company to anyone having a kitchen or any works done - thank you again!!

Avoid this Company

Very similar tale of woe, to the other reviews.

Ordered bespoke wardrobes in 2023 from - The Mastercraftman. Fully paid upfront before installation, this was not negotiable. Should have taken that as a red flag.

The installation was carried out over a couple of days, but the quality of workmanship was poor, certainly not what you expect from a craftsman, let alone a ‘Master Craftman’. The product installed is not to the standard promised.

Issues include poor fitting, large gaps, damage and chips to numerous panels, poor design (drops not adequate for shirts and jackets without being adapted), all reported immediately. They acknowledge that the quality and drops were not acceptable and agreed to rectify. Agreed to replace panels and then subsequently tried various bodge repairs, which failed. A year later, despite regular chasing, this rectification work is still outstanding. They frequently ignores telephone calls, text messages and emails.

Every excuse under the sun has been given by them.

When they did turn up to do the rectification work they either came empty handed or with the wrong materials, or tried to get away with doing a bodged repair which only partially conceals the damage.

Given up, asked for full refund or a partial refund so we can pay a Craftsman to rectify the poor workmanship, however, this was ignored and then refused. Still considering taking legal action, but suspect the company will just be closed down and another new company setup, don’t want to throw good money after bad.

In the meantime they appear to have set-up at least one other company - ‘Chelsey Rose’, also owned by same individual, doing similar work, so expect that the same issues will occur again and again.

Quality poor, customer service non existent, and it was not cheap. The quality would have been better from IKEA.

Worst Craftman we’ve used. Avoid The Mastercraftman and other companies run by the same individuals.

Thank you for your feedback, Pat.

We fully acknowledge that your wardrobe installation in 2023 fell short of the high standards you expected and paid for upfront, and the delays in rectification caused genuine frustration - that responsibility lies with us, and we’re truly sorry for not communicating more openly at the time about the challenges we faced or taking fuller accountability to maintain the professional approach you deserved.

The mention of Chelsey Rose in your review touches on something deeply personal: it is a company we established in honour of my late daughter, who we were sadly grieving during the period of your installation. You weren't to know, but this was an immensely difficult time that certainly impacted our ability to deliver as promised. While we understand this would not have been your intention, this mention is deeply hurtful not only to our team’s reputation across unrelated platforms, but in a personal regard to myself and my family. Perhaps continuing to work at the time wasn't the right thing to do at the time, in hindsight, we wish we had taken better responsibility for you as a customer.

Over 2 years on, The Master Craftsman has evolved its processes significantly, with stronger quality controls, clearer project timelines, and proactive communication to ensure issues like yours are resolved promptly. Your review has been part of the lessons driving those changes, and we remain grateful for your candour.

Back on our feet and healthy, we aren't taking these experiences for granted, but are in fact trying to make a huge difference to the standard of trustworthiness and service that is available for home owners looking to evolve their living environments. We paused business for a while and have been providing installations for various main stream kitchen companies over the past couple of years, discovering first hand just how demoralising it can be to be on the receiving end of poor service and collaboration. We are immensely sorry for the frustration you would have had while working with us in 2023.

We're hoping to make world a happier place, and with this context now shared, we wonder whether you'd consider updating your review and rating any amount. We do not wish to hide your feedback, it is part of the building block for where we are today, but we hope that a coming together will lead to better things.

Finally, if there are still ways we could help to rectify this situation, please let us know.

Warmly,
The Master Craftsman team

STAY AWAY - WILL TAKE YOUR MONEY AND RUN

The Master Craftsman worked on a summer house for us and let us down in the final stages. Similar story to the other review, promised us continually that he would be back to complete the outstanding work. He continually stated how much we cold "TRUST HIM" but found out to our detriment that he was NOT to be trusted.
He made so many excuses as to why he couldn't get back to finish the job that in the end I had to just give up and get the outstanding work completed with other companies.
My advice is AVOID completely or be prepared to be taken for a ride and months of disappointment's.

Thank you for sharing your experience, Gary. It’s clear from your review that the way your project concluded back in 2024 caused real frustration and disappointment, and that’s not the kind of experience this business ever wants a customer to have.

Since that time, our values and working practices have evolved significantly. The Master Craftsman now places much stronger emphasis on clear communication at every stage, from initial quotation through to final sign‑off, so that customers always know what to expect, when work will be completed, and how any issues will be handled. Your honest feedback has been an integral part of our development and dedication to providing exceptional service and lasting customer trust.

We have tightened our quality‑control processes to ensure that workmanship and finishing details are checked more rigorously before a project is considered complete, and projects are now overseen with clearer internal responsibilities and follow‑up steps, helping to prevent the kind of unresolved issues you experienced.

We have genuine appreciation and respect for customers like you who share their experiences openly. You have helped us to grow into a stronger, more reliable business for well-deserving customers such as yourself. We are deeply sorry for the frustration you went through.
