Be Very Careful Who You Deal With – This review is regarding the owner of the Salt Center: Melissa Vance.
I had been a client of this business since February of 2023 and had enjoyed a congenial relationship with Melissa. That was until just a few months ago.
I entered the business for my previously scheduled appointment for a float and a salt room session. The front door to the business was unlocked so I entered and went to the area to change my shoes. No one was at the front desk so I went to the float room where my name was by the door. I changed, showered, and entered the float tank. Melissa knocked on the door and asked if I was in the room. I stated yes. She or her employee started the float tank from the controls at the front desk. Once I completed my visit and was about to depart Melissa began scolding me for not waiting for her or an employee to escort me to the float room. She stated that per her contract with her insurance company that all clients must be escorted to the float room. This was new news to me as it had never been required at any of my visits for more than a year. I informed her then that it is her sole responsibility to ensure either she or her representative (employee) is available at the time of the client’s appointments so that they fulfill her contractual responsibility. It is not the clients burden to assure her business requirements are fulfilled. She disagreed. This issue did not end there.
I had been absent from having spa treatments for more than 2 months due to an injury. I made appointments for the float and salt room on Oct 22nd. A few days prior to my appointments I received an email from Melissa with an attached document that defined the responsibilities of the clients when using the facilities. I had never signed nor read such a document prior to this even though I had been using the services for almost 2 years. I read it, initialed the boxes, and submitted it electronically. It involved basic items such as not using hair dyes prior to floating and not taking items that belonged to the spa. All were quite reasonable.
I show up for my appointments on Oct 22nd and while changing my shoes an employee brings me a clip board with a document on it stating that Melissa requests that I sign it prior to entering the spa. It was a rather odd document since it was specifically addressed to me. It was a document quite similar to the one I had signed and submitted online with one telling exception. There were 3 provisions listed with the last one being the escort to the float room (which is her contractural requirement from her insurer). I found this document to be discriminatory in nature. I wrote on the top of it that I had signed and submitted her client requirements a few days prior and that this document was duplicative. I did not sign my name to it.
I returned it to the employee when I was ready to enter the area of the spa where the float rooms are located. She, the employee, asked if I wanted to leave anything in the lockers in the front. I did place my sweater in one. I was in full view of the employee who easily realized that I was ready to enter the spa area. She neglected to escort me to the float room (which she had done repeatedly during all of my previous visits). She would escort me to the Salt Room but not to the Float Room. The massage therapists always escorted me to their room as well. So, I feel the employee not escorting me to the float room was some sort of a setup for what transpired after I left the spa.
Melissa sent me an email that afternoon stating that I was refusing to follow her rules regarding being escorted to the float room (which is her contractual requirement with her insurer). I wasn’t refusing at all. Her employee wasn’t doing her job. Therefore, Melissa canceled all of my upcoming appointments, my membership, and deleted my account off of her website. When she replied in the email chain that she was canceling my membership I informed her that she had to refund my membership fees (which amounted to $675.00). She did nothing!
