Excellent Course for First-Time Parents

Excellent Course for First-Time Parents

We recently attended Lisa’s course and found it incredibly helpful as first-time parents. Lisa was fantastic — knowledgeable, approachable, and full of practical tips that really put us at ease. The sessions were well-structured and covered everything we needed to feel more prepared and confident.

We’d highly recommend Lisa’s course to anyone local to Worcester looking for genuine, down-to-earth guidance from someone who really knows her stuff.

I cannot sing the praises of Sophie and…

I cannot sing the praises of Sophie and Sammy highly enough! They delivered the most informative baby first aid and "all things" baby related course, I have been on many courses in my long life time but without doubt this was the best! Having become a Nonna for the first time a month ago, I wanted to give the most support I could to my beautiful granddaughter and my daughter/son-in-law - Sophie and Sammy have helped give that in abundance. I came away feeling empowered and relieved that I was not an "out of touch" grandparent but that in actual fact, I might be able to add some value to the ever changing ways of dealing with a newborn - I learnt a wealth of useful information without having to trawl though a minefield of internet conflicting views and opinions. Thank you both so much - you are worth your weight in gold!

Antenatal classes with Kate in Somerset

We completed the antenatal classes with Kate in Somerset and it was really informative - I would definitely recommend. She made us feel really comfortable in the group setting and we could ask as many questions as wanted either during the classes or in private. The classes contain a lot of information about pregnancy, birth and the fourth trimester so it is really handy having the booklet with information to look back over. Kate has provided so many resources and links that we could look into further and is just a fountain of knowledge about all things baby related! Thank you :)

Loved Refreshers Postnatal

Refreshers postnatal was a lifesaver for me. Great chats, lovely space, biscuits on tap, really useful sessions and guests. Wish I’d found Village Midwife sooner - thanks Sophie!!

Five stars isn’t enough!

Sophie is incredible, five stars isn’t enough! I did her antenatal course nearly six years ago when I was pregnant with my eldest son and she made the most positive impact on my birth experience. Skip forward to today and I have just finished her second-time mum postnatal course; something I cannot rate highly enough. She has the most special way of bringing together groups of wonderful people and it’s so lovely to now know people with babies the same age as my second. Any class that you book with Sophie will leave you feeling empowered and ready to face your next stage in life.

A must have couse for 2nd and 3rd time parents

I took Sophie's refresher antenatal and postnatal course and both were great. It really helped me to prepare for the arrival on baby number 2 and all the challenges that comes with it. Particularly enjoyed the postnatal course and over the weeks have made a lovely group of friends. Sophie creates a relaxed atmosphere and is very skilled to get people to open up with things they are finding difficult, which in turn allows others to share their own experiences. Really helps you to understand that you are all in the same boat.Highly recommend!

I cannot recommend The Village Midwife enough!

I cannot recommend The Village Midwife antenatal course in Wendover highly enough! From the moment we arrived, Sophie created such a warm, welcoming atmosphere that instantly put everyone at ease. She has a wonderful way of making every person feel heard and valued — no question was ever too small or too silly. It was such a relief to be in an environment where curiosity was encouraged and met with genuine care and understanding.

Sophie’s knowledge and experience shine through in everything she does. She explained even the most complex topics clearly and with such passion that you couldn’t help but feel informed and empowered. The sessions were incredibly well-balanced — a perfect mix of practical information, emotional support, and space for open discussion. We left each session feeling more confident, better prepared, and genuinely excited about the journey ahead.

Sophie is truly one of a kind — engaging, kind, deeply knowledgeable, and endlessly reassuring. We feel so lucky to have had her guidance and support during such a special time.

The best antenatal course!

We have just completed the Wendover antenatal class with Sophie and had such a great experience. The resources are detailed and great to have to refer back to after the sessions. What really made the course though was Sophie’s expert knowledge and warm approach. She made the whole group feel at ease, encouraged us to get to know one another outside of the sessions and made everyone feel comfortable to ask questions.

We would recommend the course to any expectant parents, you will come away with so much knowledge and confidence and I’m sure will make friends with other new parents along the way.

Our parents have already signed up for the grandparents club and we will be doing the postnatal course too.

Amazing Antenatal class

We went on the July 2025 antenatal classes and found them amazing. Sophie is super friendly and very knowledgeable. We both feel far more confident approaching our birth. The classes were very relaxed and we met lots of lovely couples. Would highly recommend the Village midwife. We will be booking the post natal classes and our parents have even booked the grandparents club.

Couldn’t recommend this course enough!

My husband and I joined Sophie on the July Antenatal course, and couldn’t have had a better experience. Sophie is extremely engaging, encourages you to make your own choices, and gave us so much information that our NHS midwife hadn’t. We both feel so much more prepared for birth, and it’s all down to Sophie.

The classes were interactive, and you were encouraged to ask questions (even if they were off the current topic). Sophie answered all of our questions, and we are genuinely so sad the classes are over. We had an amazing group, and were all looking to book the Postnatal course together.

If you have any concerns about birth, or feel like you need any additional support, book with The Village Midwife 🥰

Canceled course and left new parents stranded & isolated

We had our course booked for months and 4 weeks before they were due to start the Village midwife canceled the whole course without reason.
My partner is incredibly distressed as all the other courses in our area are now booked out.
They even had the audacity to claim they were helping by offering alternative courses over 40 minutes away, when half the reason for attending these classes is to build support network of new parents in your local area.
Any other service this wouldn't be an issue but they have seriously impacted our ability to build a support network in one of the most significant life changes you can undertake. Feel totally let down

The best thing you could do is book!

I don't think any words can really convey the confidence and courage these classes give! Kate was brilliant! De-bugging the birth that most new parents worry and fear (that we have been made to believe is 'normal'), and actually sharing real life examples, experince and taking an 'all facts on the table' approach which shows it can be and should be a process of choice and discussion which ultimately can lead to a very beautiful birth process. I honestly don't know what my wife and I would have done without these classes and couldn't recommend them highly enough. Not only do they allow a safe space for questions, discussion and information sharing but they really are the foundations of a small village, with bonds being made with total strangers who, over time, we hope become friends. The BEST investment we have made in preparation for the arrival of our little one and something I would shout from the rooftops about! I wrongly thought these classes would be mum-to-be centric but they offer a new perspective for dads and/or birth partners and really do lay the foundations for what should be a positive experience. 100% recommend, no question! Thank you for giving us something no one else could so far on this journey...confidence, courage and a positive mindset!

Group antenatal course with Kate (Taunton)

The group antenatal course with Kate (Taunton) was so valuable for both me and my partner. All sessions were very informative and delivered excellently. We felt that we learnt so much at each session and are prepared for the exciting journey ahead. It was great to be able to meet other parents to be too. Kate made everyone feel so welcome. I have no hesitation in recommending this course. Thanks so much, Kate!

Excellent sessions and loads of knowledge

We attended Nikki's sessions in may (apologies for the delay!!) and they were excellent. Loads of good information, lots of reassurance and support made available, tons of explanation of processes, rights, and how to navigate systems of support etc. The village midwife materials are fantastic and Nikki was a superstar. Cannot recommend them enough!!!!

We attended Aimee’s June/July antenatal class in Leighton Buzzard, and we honestly couldn’t recommend it enough. Over the course of five sessions, Aimee was absolutely brilliant; so knowledgeable, friendly, and approachable. She created such a warm and supportive environment, and no question ever felt too small or silly.

We now feel so much more informed and prepared as we head into this next chapter of becoming parents. The sessions were a perfect balance of informative and fun, and we also met lots of lovely people along the way.

Thank you, Aimee, for your amazing support!

Incredibly informative, would highly recommend!

We had a great course with Lisa in Worcester. The sessions were well planned that covered everything from a straight forward birth, to interventions and c-sections to nappy changes! We feel really informed going into our birth and confident we have the right tools to advocate for what we would like (whether things go to plan or not!).

After each session we were emailed with lots of useful extra information and links. Lisa also found some time to go through our birth plan with us, suggesting extra things to add which was great.

Overall, I’d highly recommend the course to help you both feel prepared.

Nikki’s class is top recommendation for North Hampshire

Nikki’s class in North Hampshire was excellent. We picked the Village Midwife due to the timing of classes (4 x Saturday mornings) and knowing that the course would be led by a midwife.

The course itself is well planned - two sessions on birth and two on looking after a newborn/the fourth trimester. The course is comprehensive and covers all options for birthing and feeding for example - and Nikki was as enthusiastic about each option - no judgement and lots of sharing why certain options might be considered. I went into the course really wanting to avoid a c-section or epidural out of fear, but Nikki has taken that fear away with information and a nuances/caveats she has shared - so I feel better about my choices should things not go to plan.

I also appreciated the small recap and the beginning of each session to really embed knowledge/check we were comfortable.

Nikki adapted the pace/focus based on where we and the other couples were (3 couples in the class all considering natural births) but she ensured she covered alternatives as well so we are fully prepared.

I cannot recommend Nikki enough - she is a fountain of knowledge and actually provided me knowledge of my choices in the local area more so that my community midwife care to date. She’s friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable. It is useful to know that I can reach out via WhatsApp after the course should I have questions.

The course handout is useful to refer back to and I appreciated practice elements within the sessions (practicing swaddling or using a baby sling or birthing ball positions).

We can't recommend this course highly enough for any expectant parent! Kate, our midwife, was phenomenal. Her deep knowledge and non-judgmental nature instantly made us feel comfortable and confident to ask anything. She thoroughly prepared us for birth, delving into the science behind it and discussing options from natural births to C-sections. Plus, her breastfeeding tips were incredibly helpful. We genuinely felt equipped for birth and the postpartum journey, no matter our personal expectations. The course was perfectly structured, covering every essential topic. If you're considering The Village Midwife, don't hesitate – these classes offer immense value! Thank you so much, Kate, for your amazing support.
