Brilliant paints

Just tried out the stain blocking primer and some wood paint samples and absolutely love these paints. Easy to apply, easy to clean and beautiful colours and finish. Happy to be decorating my home with such an ethical local company local to me

Wrong colour paint

Wrong colour paint! They are swearing blind that the paint they supplied was a true RAL colour 090 80 10
Only problem is that was incorrect. Two other manufacturers paints are spot one when trying to match this RAL colour. Seem Touchdown must have a different RAL chart to everyone else.
Joke of a reply from Touchdown. Pity I cannot upload the photo I sent to them showing the discrepancy!

As explained to this customer, our RAL tinting machine is calibrated in a lab to ensure matches to all of the colour systems we supply paint for, including RAL.

The colour swatch fan deck we use is supplied by RAL so it is the official colours, not a random colour chart that has been produced.

We use the RAL colour swatches on the RAL fan deck to double check all of the paint colours we produce against it to make sure the colours are correct. Not all other manufacturers do this.

We sent a photo of the paint colour we supplied to this customer with the RAL colour swatch showing they are an exact match. We are more than happy to share this photo

Useless for interior decorating

I bought a tin of Thorndown's peelable paint, encouraged by their website's description of its "satin finish". I imagined that this would be just the thing to improve the privacy offered by the frosted glass panel in my toilet door. Unfortunately, the finish proved to be more "streaky" than "satin". This paint may be fine for greenhouse shading, but it is useless for interior decorating.

Numerous people have happily and very successfully applied our Peelable Glass Paint in many different ways from greenhouse shading, privacy and decorative screening, window decorating etc. as demonstrated on our website in the shop pages gallery sections where you buy the paint, and pages in our Projects section showing multiple projects that customers have sent in pictures of (sections listed below).

Arts & Crafts
Greenhouse Shading
Window Decorating

You can also see many amazing projects carried out with our Peelable Glass Paint on our Instagram and Facebook accounts such as the recent prize winning mural painted on a florists window in Chelsea.

We try to show as many pictures as possible so that people can get a clear idea of what the paint looks like when painted up on windows. We explain that you will see paint application when light shows through the glass and how best to apply it so that you achieve the best finish.

We also explain on the website, colour chart and printed sheet that goes out with glass paint orders to leave the first coat to cure for at least 24 hours before applying a second coat or the new coat can damage the previous coating if the first hasn’t fully cured.

We are more than happy to offer advice to get the best out of this paint.

Very careful application required

I purchased the peelable paint

It did not work for me . I was advised I had applied the second coat too thickly .

So if using please be very careful in paint application and drying as the paint seems sensitive to these things

I used their wood paint on my garden…

I used their wood paint on my garden cabin covering an existing brand with 4 coats, and it was so easy and quick to apply. That was 16 months ago, and the finish still looks good as new. I only have to wash down the cabin in the Spring, and the quality of the product never fails to impress. I have today checked around the cabin for any areas that require a recoat prior to the forthcoming winter, and the overall condition is just fantastic. Thank you Thorndown for such a brilliant product.

It covered the area I wanted to coat…

It covered the area I wanted to coat which is a plus I suppose but only one coat. For what its supposed to do the cost is extortionate. It looks just like ordinary paint to me, no proof that it contains the recycled products the company claims are in it. Having thought about that ( recycled plastics?). What happens when you clean your brush or roller afterwards? Those plastics work their way through the water system and out to sea. Not exactly protecting the earth.
Needless to say, I did not clean my brush out, I ditched it.
Any drops or splashes are easy to remove, simply wet your finger, rub it over the splash and gently rub or scratch it off after a few seconds.
Just waiting for the sun to come back out to see if it gives the shade it's meant too. Personally, I will be using watered down white paint from now on, adding a paint dye for the colour.

Hi Roger,

Peelable Glass Paint is a one coat product so that’s perfect. As stated on the tin, our website and marketing material you can apply further coats if you want to, increasing the solidity of coating, thus increasing the shading effect and reduction of internal temperature.

It would be impossible for even a trained chemist who’s been in the paint industry for years to simply look at liquid paint and be able to determine all of the raw ingredients that went into that paint.

I can assure you though that our Peelable Glass Paint is made using a resin that is 100% recycled plastic, made from the laminate used in car windscreens. It is this resin that gives Peelable Glass Paint coatings the unique plasticity that enables it to be peeled off windows at the end of the growing season. The paint chemicals industry is heavily regulated and companies can’t just make things up. Not that we would do anyway.

It is a shame that you threw away your paint brush and I think you’re getting confused with micro plastics. When washing out paint wet equipment, the small amount of paint residue left on a paint brush or roller will not contain or form any plastic solids. It is water-based and any remains of the paint become so diluted during the washing process and broken down by bacteria in the water system.

If you have any more questions about our paints then please do not hesitate to contact us.

Excellent customer service

I have just ordered some glass paint from this company in the hope it will help my reactive dog. The gentleman on the phone whom I can't mention by name but it begins with B (so he will know who I am) was incredibly helpful and I would like to commend him for his excellent service. Well done BXX it was a real pleasure dealing with you.

I've bought paint from Thorndown before and always experienced first class quality and sales and customer service.
I've Just had a possible issue with a new tin of paint and they were extremely helpful and caring about this and after some investigation at their end they weren't positive if there was an issue, but replaced the tin anyway.
I've never had service as good as this anywhere!

I purchased the 'Peelable' paint for my…

I purchased the 'Peelable' paint for my 10'x8' greenhouse. It contains not only glass but acrylic panels. I followed the instructions on the container to the letter. It does not 'peel', rather, it comes off in tiny bits AND I had to use a razor paint scraper to get it off the glass. The worst of it is, I could not get the paint off the acrylic sections without permanently damaging them in spite of the advice given by the company in their emails, phone calls and videos. Needless to say, I have spent many, many hours scraping paint. After two months from my initial complaints I had to replace all the acrylic panels at quite a cost, which was never refunded.

Beware of this so called 'peelable' paint. It definitely DOES NOT DO WHAT IT SAYS ON THE TIN.
