Poor quality materials used

I ordered a cedar roof for my hive. After two weeks it finally arrived & I found it was made mostly of plywood. When I email Thornes with a photo of the plywood they just said they’ve been making the cedar roofs with plywood for years. It makes me wonder where the so called quality of this business has gone, let alone trading standards as there was no mention of plywood when I ordered it!

Try Simon the Beekeeper.

I feel that this company doesn’t provide a good service. Long delivery times and rude Customer Service. Now using Simon the Beekeeper, as his prices are cheaper, his delivery is fast, along with good Customer Service.

Interestingly, I have just read the following review in “Glassdoor” from someone who worked there:

“Avoid"

I have been working at E.H. Thorne full-time for less than a year

The people we really nice and easy to get a long with

Cons

Terrible owners, no interest in staff as long as they’re making money. They speak to the employees terribly

Advice to Management

Look at equivalent industry’s for reference to pay”

Great company with employees who seem…

Great company with employees who seem to care about their products.
I have been a beekeeper for 5 years and have visited their head office in Rand on several occasions. I have been on their sale days and others.
Thornes provide hives and supplies for every budget. Top quality hives, or 'seconds' for those on a budget. They are innovative in developing new products and the staff are knowledgeable. I had a guided tour of their manufacturing areas which I thoroughly enjoyed.
Postal orders are dealt with promptly and staff are very friendly. It's about a 3 hour trip for me to get to their shop and back again, but I treat it as a 'day out' and not as a chore as I always enjoy my visits.
