UNSOLICITED COLD CALL ERROR OF JUDGEMENT
I am writing to bring to your attention a concerning situation involving individuals claiming to represent TNT Roofing Services, Ayrshire.
On Monday, 7th April, Thomas Johnstone (Jnr) visited my home, unsolicited, offering to repair storm-damaged guttering. He introduced himself as representing TNT Roofing Services. After initially expressing our intention to wait for our insurance company's appointed contractor, Thomas persisted, accompanied by his brother Alexander and father “Thomas Snr.” The latter argued convincingly that the guttering clips I had purchased were unsuitable and proposed sourcing correct replacements and completing the repair for £180.
Regrettably, I agreed. During the process, they broke the new clips and attributed this to storm-related twisting of the guttering. The outcome left my gutter leaking more than before.
Further, they suggested additional repairs, quoting £3,500 for ridge tile replacement and £15,000 for a new roof. However, no written quotations were provided, heightening my unease.
Upon further investigation, I discovered discrepancies in their claims:
1. A reference to “829523” registered at Companies House, Edinburgh, dated 24th November 2024.
2. An application “43910” for TNT Roofing Services at 18 Tarbet Avenue, West Kilbride, on 25th November 2024.
3. A website address listed WAS —100 High Street, Caledonian House, Irvine—which was said to be for correspondence only.
Given these inconsistencies, I engaged a professional roofing company to rectify the poor-quality work done.
I MADE THE FATAL ERROR OF ACCEPTING A COLD CALL AND PAID THE PRICE FOR IT - BE AWARE
