Amazing service

We had a problem on arrival at the house we were renting which was totally out of their control but the service we received that evening (it was out of hours) was amazing. They managed to sort us out with another fabulous property which we moved into the same evening and at no extra cost to us. It was our first time booking with Toad Hall Cottages but it definitely won't be our last. They were fabulous.

Folder with all information we needed for property and surrounding area. Received an email day before with keysafe code and directions. All brilliant. Will definitely use this company again. Had a lovely week.

Just rented 1 Thurlestone apartments…

Just rented 1 Thurlestone apartments with Toad Hall …..
Well on arrival tbe whole apartment stank of sewerage, appeared to b coming up through the shower tray in the en-suite, I had to go and buy 4 bottles of bleech and put it down tbe sink and shower waste 6 times a day to dampen the stench,
There were no towels, I phoned toad hall and tbe lady said you should have read the small print, there’s no towels included!!! And they couldn’t supply any, so I had to go to Tesco and spend £50 on towels as there were 5 of staying there
Not very clean at all, loads of dead flies, there was 1 tin in oven, with no non stick left on it, no hairdryer , no full length murror, and a grubby cream material sofa, bed linen cheap and poor quality.
Wouldn’t stay here again, there’s much better around

2 bank cottages chillington Devon review

As a family of five we rent 2 bank cottages chillinton Devon , was very annoyed when arriving that the pictures that indicated a parking bay were infact next doors parking bay. No where to park at all. Once we were in the property it was disappointment after disappointment, the place was dirty , smelled terrible and was much smaller , the pictures indicated, a large place it wasn't !!. There was dirty washing left in the washing machine , dirty greasy finger prints everywhere, dead flies on window ledges. Infact the disgusting smell emulating from the porch and the drainage were very over powering, up stairs the pillows had yellow stains on and not all the beds were made up for the arriving family . Considering I've been staying with toad hall cottages for over 8 yrs and never had this issue I was utterly shocked at the down fall in cleanliness and pictures. However once I called toad hall to complain they were swift to resolve the situation, and moved our family to another cottage that was thankfully much cleaner .
But this property should definitely be taken off their books .

A lovely cottage in great location

We have used Toad Hall Cottages a few times now and had excellent experiences. We would like to comment on our recent stay at Bluegate Barn, Modbury. We stayed from 30/08 to 06/09/24.
The barn was absolutely wonderful. It is in a perfect location for Modbury and visiting coast and country in the south Hams and further afield to Start Bay.
We love the area and have spent many happy holidays in the area. More recently, we have used Toad Hall Cottages and our experience has been excellent. The cottages have been of a very high standard and in great locations.
Bluegate Barn was the best equipped cottage we have stayed in. It was immaculately presented and had everything we needed and more. It was cosy and very comfortable but also spacious and very smart.
The grounds were wonderful and the added bonus of a chicken roaming happily made our week. It was so easy to slip into Modbury or further afield to Kingsbridge, Salcombe, Plymouth, Dartmouth or Totnes or to the lovely beaches including Bigbury, Bantham, Thurlestone, Blackpool Sands.
We would highly recommend Bluegate Barn and the Clock Barn, Luson that we stayed in last year.
Many thanks

Sherbet Lemon - Do not book

Do not use Toad Hall Cottages or their associated Cornish Traditional Cottages to book a holiday, namely property Sherbert Lemon in St Austell/Par. They cancelled our booking 8 days before our holiday was due to start, customer service were rude, unhelpful and lacked any empathy. Terms and conditions roll off their tongue, so presume this is a common occurrence. Do not waste your time or effort and avoid the disappointment of having your holiday ruined at short notice.

A magical place to stay

It was a pleasure to go into The Old Post Office. We were greeted by a clean, modern, light, and spacious home. There was everything we needed for our week in the new Forest, including treats and poo bags for Mousey the dog. Those of us that arrived on the Saturday were greeted by a group of ponies almost right outside the door. We all found this a wonderful start to a magical holiday.
The children loved searching for, and finding, fairy doors.
The Old Post Office is in a perfect location. It has comfy beds, stunning views, especially from the top floor. The pictures on the walls showing local scenes set the right atmosphere as well. In the garden the hydrangeas were in bloom with the bees collecting their pollen.
The children loved the pony trekking from the Coombe Stables in Sway. We grown-ups took the opportunity of the perfect weather to follow the ponies across the moorland.
I would like to add here a recommendation. Inside the Needles Eye café at Milford On Sea is a revelation. The pictures and lights are lovely. There were seven of us and there were no free tables when we arrived but I am very glad we decided to wait. We all ordered something different and yet, we were all served at almost the same time. The food was excellent. Very good value for money.

Read T and C's before booking

Having booked a highend property (The Cattleshed, Chillington,) after reading 5 star reviews we sadly did not get the same experience.

Greeted by hosts dogs who jumped up and scratched our car let alone navigating round them in fear of running them over. Apparently it was an accident even though it happened on more than one occassion with hosts watching and not stopping this.

Pod by lake was zipped up on opening it was covered in poo (apparently snail poo)

Hosts walked dogs on grounds we were using and let them poo not picking up after them. My daughter was paddleboarding I was in the pod he appeared with his dogs and let them poo, I thought any minute now he will pick up We had no idea we were sharing the grounds with the hosts let alone having to dodge dog poo. Just shocking

Daughters room smelt of sewage

No privacy to maintain hot tub owner just appears.

Tried several times to convince us to turn off the hot tub.

All the out door facilities were covered up and to use we had to remove covers that were covered in both dead and alive snails.

Owner walks dog by the hot tub and lets them poo

We had no phone signal in the property and did not want to make our stay unpleasant by complaining.

On our last night whilst using the hot tub I turned to look at the view and the owner was under a tree saw me and ran off..I think he was going to turn off the hot tub.

When we left the owner shouted from afar leave keys in door no goodbye how was your holiday etc.

We wrote a polite email to the holiday company and all we got was excuses. Of course there will be snail poo its outside (when the hosts had not even checked or cleaned it and agreed it was unnacceptable)

Its such a beautiful place let down by hosts and Toadhall

We were told he does pick up his dog poo and no one else has complained basically. We asked for a gesture of goodwill and was sent a list of T & C's saying you can only address problems during your holiday.

We feel the response is dismissive and unnacceptable and they have refused to consider this.

Please be careful when booking with this company. Here was our final response.

Good morning Sharon,

Thank you for your email, I apologise for the delayed response.

I’m sorry that you feel disappointed with my response and feel that our approach has been dismissive. Please be assured that this was not our intention, your comments have been properly reviewed by the owner and all points considered and responded to.

Besides offering our apologies for any inconvenience caused, I’m afraid that we have nothing further to add on the subject.

With kind regards,

Liz

DISGRACEFUL MATTRESS At FIG TREE COTTAGE , Milford on Sea

Apologies for resorting to this lengthy review here. But I really want people to be aware of this. We stayed at Fig Tree Cottage end July beginning August, the hottest week of the year so far.
Arrived Saturday evening
1. aware that it was extremely unkempt, untidy, dirty outside area, smelly bins, filthy garden furniture.
But at 7pm, we’re very tired so keen to unpack.
2. The instant we opened the door, greeted by an overwhelming musty, foisty damp fusty unpleasant smell, we opened doors/windows obviously it made us uncomfortable decided to check everything inside.
3. Filthy doormat, mildew mouldy curtain linings. Kitchen was spotless apart from some crockery; I just loaded it all in the dishwasher .
4. Bedroom, smells of mouldy dampness, but we’re sensible, so just thought it’d been unoccupied for a while, as it was very hot perhaps just needed some fresh air in.
However
5. BIG problem . . .The bedding, stained duvet cover and sheet, and we are talking old blood stains 😳😳 also red wine/nail polish, it had clearly been laundered, but not properly. UNACCEPTABLE looks disgusting, lazy, totally disrespectful to use stained bedding.
Tried calling all the numbers on contact details but no joy, either no connection, no signal, no response or when call answers no one speaks.
Soon realised that we had to try and email the owner, Nothing!! A-apparently their email was under maintenance!! Convenient
Tried Agent, late Friday evening no one answered but eventually we got a Wi-Fi connection and emailed them.
Cut to Monday midday, agent eventually called. Update them, they are not surprised by the foisty musty smells and they actually suggested that it’s the bedroom. I explained everything, bedding priority, the mess outside, that we had added several odour neutralisers/reed diffusers to make atmosphere smell better. Long conversation about the bedding, they agreed it was unacceptable and they would request a clean set. I asked them to simply leave it in the cottage, we would inspect the replacement and change it ourselves. They agreed.
On arrival back to Fig Tree later in the evening we were greeted with a full set of replacement bedding of good quality all on the bed which also prevented us from taking photos of the original bedding 😣 but hey ho, we don’t need hassle it’s a holiday we need, not drama.

Throughout the week we air the property at every opportunity, however if we removed diffusers etc., lingering unpleasant smell always present.
I don’t sleep for a week, hubby sleeps very badly, bed is very uncomfortable / unpleasant smell always in background especially as it doesn’t get below 24 degrees on an evening.
6. Thursday evening, I have had enough, so restless that all the covers are displaced.
7. Friday morning we have to really remake the bed… OMG !! No wonder the place smells, 8. THE MATTRESS IS DISGRACEFUL, DISGUSTING, STAINED WITH GOODNESS KNOWS WHAT, this has to be why they remade the bed on Monday… so we didn’t see THAT MATTRESS, it’s APPALLING, that someone can charge guests to sleep on their FILTHY SMELLY EXCUSE FOR A BED.
We’re appalled and pack, we are not spending another night on this disgusting thing.
WE HAVE MESSAGED THE OWNER, she’s ignored us all the way and now it appears that she has blocked me from emails too. We’ve been in contact with the agency New Forest Cottages, they’ve said owner is responsible, they are fobbing us off.
Written a formal complaint, they responded by dismissing the issues as an acceptable, slight stained mattress they say, but not likely to be from Bodily Fluids 🤮🤮 and at least a mattress protector was available.
I feel physically sick every time I think about the nights we were in the bed without knowing that the smell was probably the mattress, and once we did see it there was no way to unsee it, I feel so sorry for everyone else who has slept in it unknowingly, but actually there are some big gaps in the guest book, so perhaps we aren’t the only ones.
It’s pure greed to rent out a place for people to holiday and think that an old decrepit smelly filthy mattress is okay, and charge you for it. ABSOLUTELY DISRESPECTFUL AND DISGRACEFUL.
AVOID FIG TREE COTTAGE,
Milford on Sea, they think it’s okay to leave the cottage as is for now and review it at the end of the season
THIS WAS NOT a pleasant experience, which is a real shame as the renovations elsewhere provide a well equipped place, which is good, accommodation layout works, it’s just that the things that should be comfortable are GRUBBY ( sofas) and tired and the King Size Bed IS SHOCKING, uncomfortable and FILTHY.
I have photos but I can’t link them to the review.
I think they are very helpful, although they don’t illustrate the smell of property.
Agent has said. The owners “have concluded that they will not be offering any form of refund.” Disgraceful

26 Above Town via Toad Hall

We booked 26 Above Town via Toad Hall. The access to the property was very difficult to navigate as the roads were very narrow and steep with certain parts of the road leaving only a finger nail width on either side of the vehicle so one slip would mean damage to your car. On opening the front door we were met with a damp and foisty smell. The smell was also on the bedding which was most unpleasant. Please note the 7 steep steps are down to the cellar where the converted double bedroom is. We arrived on the Saturday, electrics went on the Sunday, though Toad Hall did send someone out to sort straight away which was good and the owner refunded us £50 for the inconvenience. Toad Hall arranged for someone to go to the property to investigate the damp and foisty smell on the Wednesday but nothing was done. We cut our holiday short and came home on the Thursday as we couldn't use the property. There is no hanging space with doors on for your clothes, so all the damp and foisty smells transfer onto them. Shame really as the property top floor layout is good. All in all an unpleasant experience. We would not recommend this property.

Big house, big views, great value 😎

We booked Heatherdale in Salcombe for our party of 10. We can highly recommend this property. Superbly presented, very clean and well equipped. Easy walk into town you can leave your cars on the drive. The views from the front of the house are amazing. We have been booking with THC for over ten years, excellent communication and value.

We have just stayed at the beautiful…

We have just stayed at the beautiful Primrose Cottage at Hope Cove. It was immaculate , so lovely to have scones and cream waiting for us. Its location was perfect for us, about 15/20 minute walk down the hill to the beach. Quiet and private. I would recommend this cottage. There was just two of us and Golden Retriever. We will be back. We also had the most amazing weather.

Avoid using this company.

We booked Moorview Villas in Princetown in July. We booked the property because we wanted off street parking for 2 cars. On arrival the owner had parked their car in the off street area so we were not able to use. The house it self was very shabby and neither the BBQ or garden furniture was cleaned in preparation for summer. The property bore no resemblance to the pictures on the website. I requested a refund but that was declined. They offered me a vague discount for a future booking. I wish I had looked at reviews on here before I booked. Reading previous reviews this property has had problems for over a year but Toad Hall cottages have ignored everyone. This is seems to be an ongoing problem with this company. I would not recommend them. We paid £1000 for the week and have never come across such poor service.

Not worth the money

What is a lovely location, shame the apartment had so many faults and issues upon arrival. A loose tap, that came off in our hands, a socket hanging off the wall, toilet roll holder off the wall; and a window that didn’t open at all when it should. When reporting these faults toad hall didn’t want to know and was told would have to wait from Monday to Tuesday with no use of a kitchen tap . Told we would not get the window sorted whilst there . The service afterwards was terrible happy to book you in etc . Just not worth the money, spend your money else where . Wouldn’t have minded the issues if they got resolved and not given excuses .

Bed Bugs at Stable Barn, Slapton.

Bed Bugs, Bites and Blood Feces.

We stayed at Stable Barn, Slapton and were bitten overnight by Bed Bugs who left their tale tale blood feces across the bedding. There were also plagues of flies. Leaving early (wouldn't you) we emailed Toad hall Cottages with photos and had an apology but were informed Toad Hall Cottages only handle the bookings, the owner is responsible for cleanliness and maintenance! Suprise Suprise, they had said they'd looks and seen nothing, the feces were really "Fly Dirt"!

Good luck to anyone else booked in, it really appears that Cash is King!
