Terrible customer service - Avoid

I ordered a pair of Avery boots from Toggi and the zip went on the third wear. Not great but the customer service was even worse. First of all they don't seem to have a in house customer service team, so bear that in mind. The person I dealt with 'Sue', had no expertise on Saddlery knowledge and overall I felt that the situation could have been handled a lot better. They asked for me to return the book but could not send a replacement as they did not have the boot in stock. They explained that that the boot would examined and then exposed of, to which I explained that is not a suffiecnt outcome. I'd rather get the boot fixed plus the replacement models were of lesser quality than the boot I had originally ordered. 'Sue' than asked that I get a quote to replace the zip and they would consider it. After getting a quote I was told that the quote was unreasonable and they would not cover the cost of the replacement zip. My options were only to send the boots back for a lesser model. My frustration is that a simple gesture would have eased this situation on - £30 for a new zip or some form of compensation would have left me with a much better feeling than where I am now. I don't mind covering the cost myself, and plan to have the other zip replaced at the same time. It was how the situation was handled.

Long term ownership review

I've had the Stockman full length for five years now, so know it well. Firstly, it is a great coat and does what it is supposed to, for the most part. It has served me well, but there are a few things that I would change.

There is no hood attachment, so you need a waterproof hat in the rain. This isn't a serious issue, just something to be aware of.

Wet sleeves - the lining of the jacket runs right down to, and is stitched along, the very edge of the cuff. This means that whenever it rains, water runs to the edge of the cuff and soaks into the lining which then draws the water up the sleeve. This is very uncomfortable and very annoying as it is a simple matter to fix it. You just need to turn the external wax material up into the cuff interior to create a water resistant gutter, or stitch a dripstrip along the edge of the cuff. It would use no more than 2cm of extra sleeve material to accomplish this and your lower arms and hands would stay much drier in persistent rain.

Wet knees - The lower coat front fastening is widely spaced, and can open up when walking, letting driving rain in onto your legs. One more press fastener below the waist level would fix this.

Durability - The material is fairly light, so on areas of persistent creasing, after five years of occasional Winter wear, small pinholes are starting to appear, especially along creased edges. This is due to the material flexing rather than abrasion, and suggests long term durability (up to 10 years) may be questionable.

All that being said, it has been a great coat to own and is well made. The sleeve issue is the one, glaring and very annoying issue that I'm amazed has not been fixed years ago, as it compromises the coat's primary function, but that apart, I would give the coat the thumbs up. I'd have given it 5* if the sleeve issue was fixed, it had a hood attachment and was more durable.

Disappointing

Disappointing. Boots arrived badly scratched. Their return slip states they will not cover return shipping. Emailed them as I understand as per UK distance selling laws they must cover return shipping, but I've been ignored. I will have to just pay it myself but I wont be purchasing from them again and will be warning others at the multiples yards I work at, to avoid them.
