Bad Food experience

I feel I must email you today, to complain about the poor service, awful meal, the wait and confusion getting a lunch for my autistic adult son and myself on 22/12/25.

To explain, we lived in Leeds approximately 9 years ago and loved coming to Tong garden centre to buy things for the garden, for our fish and importantly to have a great lunch.

I needed to come back to Leeds for a day, so it made sense to visit this once lovely store and enjoy our time browsing and eating.

We looked round the store. That was fine. We enjoyed seeing the donkeys ( which were a lovely surprise ), and I really enjoyed looking round the aquatic side of the store.
However : -

We needed lunch, this was approximately 11:00am.
At the entrance to the cafeteria there were people queueing at the signed area, we joined the queue ,then realised that others were just passing us and getting seated. I went over to ask an assistant, she directed us to a seat. People were still queueing not realising that they could just go and be seated.
There are loads of signs but not in the right places and giving too much information on each one. It is very confusing .
One sign in big letters saying Queue here to be seated would do.

There are two counters one with cakes and drinks ,the other with hot meals displayed. No one knew were to go for either as the queueing people were blocking the confusing signs.

The people who were just walking through and sitting down were walking straight through the middle of these counters.

When we were seated we were given a menu. We chose jacket potato with beans (for my son) and fish and chips for myself.
My son went over to order, again having to ask were to go, only to be told that we couldn't have the fish and chips until 12:00. By this time, it was about 11:30. To be fair it did state the time on the top of the menu, but I had failed to see it. It seems illogical that hot meals are served at different times. Especially when You just fancy something on the menu.
I then opted for tuna sandwich.
During the wait for the lunch, I went to the drinks counter and ordered two hot chocolates. We waited about 20 minutes for the hot chocolates to arrive, by which time the main meals had arrived and our pot of tea.

My son was not happy with his jacket potato as it was not hot but warm. This was served with beans and of all thing's coleslaw.

I was utterly disgusted with my tuna sandwiches. The bread was really thick. Doorstep slices. There was little if any butter on the slices and the tuna was of the lowest quality. I left one slice of bread as it could not be eaten,( the top of each quarter of the sandwich). It was far too thick. There was one piece of thinly sliced cucumber in each section of the sandwich. It was dreadful.
It is not cheap to eat here either. The prices are way too high for the quantity and quality of the food served.

I was not happy at all with the whole experience in the once good dining and pleasant Tong Garden Centre. I would not recommend Blooms Kitchen to anyone.

I am sorry that this comes just before the new year, but I believe it needed to be said so things can be looked into and altered for others.

Don't buy the fruit from the seller outside i bought 2 x strawberries 2x grapes and nectarines today they are all in the bin now it was pure rotten under the top layer. I know this has nothing to do with the garden centre but they let the seller sell on their property so they need to take responsibility

We visited Tong garden centre to see Santa, but it was not magical

We visited Tong garden centre to see Santa for the 4th year running. The Santa we saw was fantastic and my kids have such a magical time with him. However, we stopped around the lake where the picture frame is to get pictures of our kids. We were there for 5 minutes, when all the lights were turned off and we were plunged into total darkness. The lights went out at 4.51pm. My 4 year old daughter started screaming and crying, very scared. We immediately turned our phone torches on, our daughter was crying saying I want to go home, my son looked scared as he clung to Daddy's hand. We made our way to the exit. As we exited the lake, a curt lady from the start of our visit came out, and was very rude. Blamed us for still being there, said why didn't we scream for help, and we didn't know you were still here. The health and safety of that sentence alone astounds me for such a big company. Numbers should be accounted for, would we have been locked in if we hadn't rushed out as soon as the lights went off? My husband and I felt that she did know we were still there, and turned them off deliberately, such a safety hazard, and awful when young children are around. She could have walked to the lake to find us and politely ask that we leave the area, instead of scaring my children. We mentioned our unhappiness to the lady, she seemed completely unfazed by this, but we did not want to complain in front of our children, and dampen their experience further.

It became very apparent once re-entering the garden centre, with our crying 4 year old, that all staff were in an extreme rush to finish for the day, ushering us to the checkouts and exits, with all staff gathered at the exit watching and waiting for us to pay and leave. Not the magical experience we were hoping for. On the car ride home, our daughter kept saying how scary it was, she was not mentioning how wonderful Santa was. As parents we find this very upsetting, we want to provide happy, healthy and magical memories for our children, especially when we have paid for it. I have tried to contact Tong Garden Centre about this numerous times, but clearly they are not interested in opening a dialogue with us about their awful health and safety.

Unhelpful cafe staff

The garden centre is lovely with lots of Christmas decoration choices. However, it was the cafe I had an issue with. We were seated just before 11am but told we could still order breakfast. We tried to order using the QR code but when we came to pay the app wasn’t working so I joined the queue to order. Upon placing the order I was told, rather rudely, that we had missed the breakfast slot, literally two minutes after 11. I explained we had been told by the waitress we could order breakfast, the not working QR code, then time spent in the queue. Again, I was told I couldn’t order. I found and spoke to the waitress who had seated us but again, very unhelpful staff. My family had all made their choices but we ended up leaving. Obviously we couldn’t order breakfast when seated, very unhelpful staff!

Lisa is absolutely fantastic!

I took my parents out for the day yesterday and they visited the shoe section. Lisa was so helpful and polite. She assisted us throughout wonderfully. There was however a lady there who ignored me when I asked for help. I didnt manage to get her name but she was the one with short black hair. Absolutely rude! She acted as though she didn’t see me when I was stood in front of her.

She needs to take a leaf out of Lisa’s book

Poor quality and poor customer service

We bought a Supremo corner rattan and table set from Tong Garden Centre for nearly £1,500. Two summers later all the rattan has snapped under the glass on the table and part of the chair is unsafe and has a hole in due to snapped rattan. Unfortunately I started contact with Tong Garden Centre on 9th May and it took many ignored emails and chasing until finally on 24th June they said there’s nothing they can do. Tong have claimed that Supremo claim it only has 1 year warranty. It’s a shame Tong are selling such poor quality furniture for so much money and appear not to care or offer any after care.

I absolutely regret this purchase. I should have bought a cheaper one for £500 as that’s what my family have done and that’s lasted perfectly for the same length of time. A waste of money and shocking customer service will absolutely not buy from here again.

The furniture was in our extension all winter and under cover when not used during the summer. I would recommend buying a cheaper set from somewhere else so at least if it breaks you haven’t wasted £1,500 and sat on it for 2 summers. Unfortunately with British summer it means we’ve hardly had chance to use it.

We recently visited Tong garden centre & had lunch in the Mezzanine. We have eaten there two or three times. The food is mediocre at best & is overpriced although the service is quite good. We won't be going again.

Tong Garden Centre Afternoon Tea

Tong Garden Centre Afternoon Tea in Mezzanine. What a total waste of money. Service terrible, food terrible, dry, unappetizing and certainly not as advertised. There will not be a repeat visit. Feel totally ripped off. Tong Garden Centre should hang their heads in shame.

Unwelcoming cafe

So after shopping there today and walking for ages and spending hundreds of pounds we joined the que for tea and biscuits in the down stairs cafe , when we got to the front the lady said I couldn’t take my trolly into cafe and I must leave it un attended next to toilets barring in mind most things where already paid for from individual stores inside.we had a very full trolly. I deffo won’t spend my well earned there again . Very disappointed and let down surly a sign at the beginning of line would stop people wasting they time . Plus I’m sure the lady took great pleasure in telling me I wasn’t welcome in her cafe 😡 who on earth would leave store to empty trolly into car then re enter store for a brew . So this just
Penalises people who have spent 100s of pounds and need a trolly . Very poor service

Visited Tong Garden Centre last week to see this years Festive display. Year on year they continue to improve on their displays making it such an immersive experience. It was nice to be greeted by 'Mr Christmas himself', well actually, one of their staff members who has worked there for over 15 years, he thanked us for being loyal customers....that was nice. He always used to take the time to ensure any Christmas lights you bought worked before you left the store, a lovely touch.....now my problem is where to put all the things we bought until Christmas!

Wonderful store if a bit pricey

Wonderful store if a bit pricey. The Christmas section was wonderful with lots to see. Our only disappointment is that there are no seats to rest if you need too. It’s a big place and when you’re disabled like myself and my wife we found we struggled to go round it all. Notice a few elderly people also struggling to walk and holding onto things to rest before carrying on. Highly recommended though. Children will love the Christmas stuff and grasshoppers which my grandchildren absolutely love.

Bah Humbug !

We have been satisfied regular customers at Stephen H. Smiths Garden centre in Otley. It is now part of Tong Garden Centre. It has been effectively refurbished. It appears to me that the company is recovering the expenditure by charging exorbitant prices(particularly sweets and other edibles.) There are still 86 days until Christmas but most of the area has been taken over by festive fare. We will shop elsewhere.

Food not bad as long as you do not mind it being thrown over you

Went to the garden centre restaurant for lunch. Menu has not changed in years and is a little bit boring. The bloke who served us ended up spilling the food over me and my phone. No apology, just loads of kitchen roll to mop the gravy off me, the phone, the table, the wall and the floor. Not even a fresh plate was provided. Not a good dining experience and they still had the cheek to charge full price.

Two of us in cafe

Two of us in cafe: “ Hello ! Table No. 52 “
( Girl on till pleasant enough but a bit ‘Robotised’)
Two flat whites please and 2 sausage and bacon
sandwiches on white bread cakes. I forget the exact
price, but very close to £20. Small flat whites at £3-50
each - hot, and perfect. ✔️ sandwiches ? 2 skinny and
overdone tasteless sausages in each, along with the
Tiniest piece of (overdone) bacon. Horrible, THEE worst ever, wouldn’t have given it to our dog ! My
ravenous Son - ate half of his, I left all mine - baring one horrible bite. Could not be bothered asking for the
manager - if there is one ! Proper, bad experience ! 🤮
On the positive side, I bought, for a couple of friends the ‘Afternoon tea’ in the new mezzanine: PERFECT !
and ‘Thank You’ they enthused. Hence our visit to the
Cafe today - Full of confidence and high expectations … How wrong we were ! Apart from the (expensive)
but really good coffee. The food was a disaster ! ! !
