Tripadvisor Censorship is Unacceptable Behaviour

After a Saturday, September 26 visit to local gardens at Regina's Legislative Buildings, I posted the following commentary, first at Google (NOT rejected to date) and then Tripadvisor. I was frank about what my aging spouse and I encountered and posted THE SAME at both sites: "... Have visited this place twice before when it was relatively well maintained. Two major issues from our visit of September 26, 2026: First, ALL OF the parking spots immediately in front of these PUBLIC gardens are 'reserved' for Saskatchewan's arrogant, self-adulating "MLAs" (Members of the Legislative Assembly). NOT ONE parking spot reserved for HANDICAPPED/ELDERLY. A sign of the COMPLETE IGNORANCE of these 'elected' snobs to THEIR legal duty to THE RIGHTS of ALL CONSTITUENTS. We did find a 'handicapped' parking spot just past the long path leading to these architecturally beautiful LA buildings. The stupidity was that, while there was a ramp to facilitate entry ONTO THE STREET, there was NO ramp immediately across from this street access ramp. This means that I had to embarrass my spouse by pushing her some distance down this street before a ramp was found that allowed us to access the garden site. Even at that point, there was no signage identifying the part of the garden access that was indeed 'ramped' (between some trees and shrubs) while stair access to the gardens was clearly visible. COMPLETE DISREGARD to the FACT that we are a nation with aging parents and others who worked long years propping up this taxed stupidity and ARROGANCE. Second, while the floral displays could have been remarkable (and a non-gardening friend had cooed about these gardens the day before, urging us to visit them), as active gardeners, we were appalled. It is even more appalling that another visitor from over two years past had posted commentary noting how badly these gardens needed watering. It was on the verge of disgusting how stressed these plants were. IF they were puppies and kittens, the public would be screaming animal abuse. Evidently, plants matter not to the unionized workers who make good money off their incompetent silence to this bad management of a PUBLIC AREA AND 'elected officials', who care more about perception about their higher snobbery in society than in protecting functional democracy and the public spaces that are created from OUR taxes, supposedly in recognition of the special nature of our places of 'democratic representation' , and then treated with such contempt because all that matters to these arrogant idiots in elected places across our nation is the 'appearance' that 'they care' when they too obviously DO NOT.
Don MacAlpine, Regina, Saskatchewan ...". By September 28, I had received, first, a long email explaining that Tripadvisor's 'censorship committee' had found my review 'offensive'. I responded to that with this commentary "... Thank you for advising that you will engage in censorship of criticisms of exhibitions of arrogance from ANY elected places. I have NOT been informed by google that the same review has been censored. Respect must be earned and the snobbery of OUR elected is NOT above condemnation for ANY issue, including the TREATMENT OF the handicapped in places where RESPECT should be in place ALREADY.

It is shameful that a supposed 'free society' allows action like this from an organization that pretends that it is about honest assessment of 'tripping' places. What part of MY LANGUAGE is offensive? My challenge to the OPEN SNOBBERY of elected officials, everywhere? It is ironic that, in the same time frame as your rejection appeared, local peace advocate Ed Lehman did a reply to all (including the elected officials this went to) and wrote: "... Hi Don, Thanks for speaking up on these issues. Hopefully the appropriate actions will occur. Ed ...

My father put on a Canadian Army uniform in 1940, prepared to die to STOP the oppression of LANGUAGE for the sake of protecting the powerful over the rights of all others. By way of this email, be assured that I will NO LONGER be submitting to 'tripadvisor's' censoring committees. ..." and forwarded a copy to Tripadvisor's 'help' address. That resulted in an immediate response from Tripadvisor's 'help' staff telling me that my review was not accepted because of the "vulgarity" I had used. I have yet to have a response identifying my 'offensive and vulgar' wording. I also pointed out that I had PUBLICLY received a vote of thanks from a member of a local peace advocacy group who thanked me for my stern record. I began using Tripadvisor well before 2010 but WILL NO LONGER use this arrogant organization. It is NOT surprising that this 'organization', that pretends to promote honest assessment of potential visit sites, has only a 2.4 rating on Trustpilot.

This review is about Ramada By Wyndham in Kingston Canada. First of all it is a motel and not hotel. There is no lobby, breakfast is as basic as you can imagine, we stayed two nights our room was not cleaned and towels were not changed, showers are not hand held, tea coffee stuff in the room totally unsatisfactory. I would never stay in this place again.

The Canadian website (Tripadvisor.ca) Lists Canadian Parks as State Parks

Their Canadian website (Tripadvisor.ca) lists Canadas National and Provincial Parks as STATE Parks. The email they provided on the same website returns all attempts to contact as "undeliverable - address does not exist". I called the phone number and spoke with someone who just hung up on me when I pointed out the blatant error.
Canada does NOT have STATES or STATE PARKS.

We had our Visa card blocked

We had our Visa card blocked, unknowingly, due to Viator, trying to charge us $2206.00. We did not buy anything from them or Tripadvisor. Viator must have taken our credit card information from a Tripadvisor purchase, from years ago, and attempted to defraud us. Visa Rep said that the charge was from Viator, not a third party. So it was not an employee ripping us off, it was Viator. The person on the chat had not empathy towards the situation and asked what I would like them to do!!!! I said find out who put the charge through. They said that without an order number, they could not see anything. I asked how can a charge go through then? No answer. I closed my account. To bad, it was a good place to organize our trips.

Just want to warn people who intend to take trips with Tuorradar to avoid dealing with them.
In Sept. this year I took a seven-day tour in Romania and booked and paid for a pre-night for Sept. 11th, 2021 however CH Bucharest Hotel the next morning presented me with a new bill of 575,83 Ron. After speaking to the agency in Bucharest Called EXACT TOURS agent Razva Dabuleanu, he claimed that TOURRADAR ha not given him the money.

Auk Island Winery

Auk Island Winery, Twillinggate, NL- Stayed in their Guest Suites over the Winery. Very good deal for nightly rate. Serious issue with the coded entry and I could not get to work right away. Took about ten minutes to get it to work. Very Hard to turn handle, took two hands. Furniture Not comfy for sitting very long, one bed very uncomfortable and nights sleep nearly impossible. But that being said, Nice place and apparently newly renovated. Large and spacious. They have thought of most things, but no patio furniture to sit out. Lots to see and weather cooperated for walking. Will think about returning again once Season has begun. Left good review in Guest book because that's what you do. :) Thanks for everything.

A Better Dispute Mechanism Required for Unreasonable Reviews

The review system seems to have some inherit flaws with respect to the currency and competency of the people leaving reviews. Many of the reviews are not always reflective of the experience you have received at a local restaurant or facility.
Also, it appears that the business operator has very little recourse to dispute reviews that seem unreasonable.
This may have been a reason for the situation at a resort in the Philippines where an owner decided to go to court to find remedy through their court system. It seems to be a last resort to prevent defamation against small business operators against unreasonable customers.
It's a shame that there is no dispute mechanism to deal with such deputes. It seems to be an ongoing problem with many sites such as Yelp & Google as well.

Hello Stephen,,

Thank you for taking the time to bring what I believe to be review concerns to Tripadvisor's page on Trustpilot.

We're committed to hearing about customer feedback to drive improvements on our end and to resolve any issues that you may have. We pride ourselves in being a safe and trustworthy resource for travel advice and information, and as such, value the wealth of content that we continually receive from users.

We wanted you to know that we have technology and a live team in place to moderate reviews to ensure that they are family-friendly, posted to the correct business, and in compliance with all our review submission guidelines. Therefore, if a review is suspicious or violates our guidelines (https://www.tripadvisorsupport.com/hc/en-us/articles/200614797), our moderation team will investigate the latter accordingly and determine if a review meets our submission guidelines or not. If the review does not then it will be removed.

Reviews are left for free, therefore Tripadvisor does not profit from these submissions. Our goal is to be a comprehensive resource for travelers to research and to allow them to share their experiences with the global community.

We hope this provides further clarification for you with regards to our review policy and process!

Kind regards,

Tripadvisor Customer Relations Team.

I really appreciate being able to check…

I really appreciate being able to check out places we would like to explore and reading how the other travellers have found it. Many times we have booked a little getaway because someone wrote something very special about the place. We have never been disappointed. Thank you also for checking over the emails before they are published. I have received some interesting comments back:)

Good reference material. But inaccurate counts of my reviews

As a traveller I like to use TripAdvisor as my research material because I find it useful.
As a contributor, I enjoy to write reviews to help other travelers. I also treat it like my travel journal.
But I find that they short change me on the number of reviews I've submitted. I don't know how they count the reviews - I assumed that each review would be counted once. I've sumitted 997 but they have only credited me with 990. I have been keeping track but I don't know why they cannot accurately count the grand total.
