Very pleased with the products after trying a single delivery. All cuts of meat were obviously far superior to grocery store meat and my family noticed immediately the high quality, tenderness, and taste. I compared the prices to my online grocer and they were almost exactly the same. Delivery could be faster. Ordering a second box now!

Further to my previous review I tried the Salmon and it was good. Just don’t understand why a company that is promoting local is selling products from another country. Also have not heard back about my other concerns that I was told someone was looking into.
Which sustainability certification does this salmon recieve?
The Marine Stewardship Council has many complaints from the fishery industry in Canada and Globally.
Alaska caught 194.8 million salmon in 2025 and 103.5 million in 2024. Some of those salmon would have spawned in B.C. The catch includes all five species of wild Pacific salmon: sockeye, coho, Chinook, chum and pink.
Meanwhile, B.C. caught 2.9 million salmon in 2025 and 2.4 million in 2024.
Alaska’s salmon fisheries also have a globally recognized certification that tells stores and consumers its fish are caught sustainably. The Marine Stewardship Council certification faces some criticisms from conservation groups, but having it helps get fish on shelves and into shopping baskets.
Conservation groups have argued the Marine Stewardship Council sometimes certifies unsustainable fisheries. In 2024, a group of Canadian conservation groups formally objected to Alaska salmon fisheries being recertified they argue that while Canada has been cutting down allowable salmon catch, Alaska is catching too many.
Alaska’s constitution requires fish to be maintained on a “sustained yield principle” in its own state, basically meaning “don’t deplete it.” But it allows a fishery to intercept fish returning to Canadian rivers where salmon stocks are experiencing depletion.
It’s appalling for Alaska to apply a different standard to B.C. fish and the Marine Stewardship Council “is letting them get away with it.”
“Alaska’s indiscriminate harvest is preventing the recovery of vulnerable Chinook, chum, sockeye, coho and steelhead that are headed for Canada,” Aaron Hill, executive director of Watershed Watch Salmon Society, said in a statement about the objection.
Misty MacDuffee, biologist and wild salmon program director with Raincoast Conservation Foundation, argues the Alaskan Chinook fishery “deprives endangered southern resident killer whales of their primary food source.”
Concerns about the Marine Stewardship Council’s certifications go beyond salmon: in March, the Antarctic and Southern Ocean Coalition objected to the Marine Stewardship Council’s decision to recertify the Antarctic krill fishery.

This is a food subscription service that provides "local" meats, poultry, and prepared foods via online order. It services several provinces. I live in BC so my products came from local BC farms / suppliers. The service is really HIGH PRICED and sadly the quality of the products is truly dismal overall. The Chicken Breasts, whether their "regular" or "organic" were horrible just mushy and damaged meat that had brown areas on it as well. They sell what is stated to be "Filet Mignon" however, it arrives as just being labled plain "Tenderloin Steak" (which is NOT all actually Filet Mignon only a special mid-section is!) it also has no weight on label, but the steaks are tiny, not even 5Oz each! And the steaks are mostly layered Grissel with hardly any meat in between those layers! So tough you can't even chew it at all, like rubber! Additionally, the packaging was not sealed! It leaked juice when defrosted in my fridge, but was supposed to be vacuum packed. So, don't recommend anyone subscribe to this overpriced service ever!! It was a truly disgusting experience! Waste of $165.00!!
EDIT: A week after this review the company reached out to ask me to please stay on the subscription and offered me to redo the box free, OR I could have a $75.00 refund. But, that refund amount would have been less than half of the actual total I paid them. I responded within a few different emails back and forth that since products would always come from those same local BC suppliers I doubted that they'll ever be any better quality, and so I'd declined staying on with them. Then I pointed out that I didn't think their offer of $75.00 was really adequate or appropriate since the products were not eaten and literally had spoiled our plans for a birthday dinner for my Dad! I told them that at that amount it would mean we paid $90.00 to eat 1 single Turkey Breast! Then I informed them I wanted a TOTAL refund of my $165.00, or I would simply do a chargeback on my credit card for not receiving what I ordered to get my money back that way. I also pointed out, that actual price JD Farms charges for the Turkey Breast is $13.34 a lb. and my Turkey Breast was just about 1 pound total weight, not $90 worth! So, at that point finally the company DID provide me a full refund. However, I still do not recommend them for the bad quality of products, and the obvious outrageous markup in prices for products. And, the initial low ball refund offer that only changed once I threatened to do the charge back on card.

I have been with trulocal for over 5 years and have never had a bad experience that is until I made a request ( first time)to make a change to my order that had NOT been processed yet.
If I had known how complicated this would actually end up being I wouldn’t not have made the request but was assured by (“Ryan” at zendesk) “no problem” I was so pleased I even gave a great review! That was Jan 7/26.
By the Last week of Jan “several emails I said forget it ! After it being paid for and told it still had not left warehouse.
Feb 2 /26 Still no refund .
So if you are sure you will never need any assistance ever “ Meat is good”
For the price though a few live people on staff for hiccups and changes would be recommended.

I have been with Trulocal for 5 1/2 years. It’s been a great experience! It’s always delivered when they say it will be, and everything is so very delicious! For example, we love the back ribs! The servings are substantial and the trim is so very good. The salmon filets are so good and simple to cook with a griller. I had one delivery problem in all that time - my box was missing our ribs - oh no!!! Whenever I phone, the response is great! They would have made a special delivery of ribs but I said to just double up next time, which they did. I’m a big fan!!!

So far so good! I did buy a turkey and it was delivered a few days ago. It looks freezer burnt but I'm hoping I'm wrong! I will be back after Christmas to update,

My experience has been more than great. I've been using true local for many years now. And I will not switch. Service is amazing. It saves me so much time. My family, my children all feel it differently with their health eating better quality meat. As a health practitioner. I recommend this to all of my clients as well appear. The support staff is great when you need help.
I highly recommend trying out true local. They'll change the way you grocery shop

This is a really well run company. The odd time you will run into an issue like a really chewy steak you cant eat or some freezer burnt meat on arrival.
If you send them pictures of the meat and package they will replace it for you.
Prices are bit tough on the wallet but I think its expected with good quality meat, shipped to your door.
Love this company and hope the customer service never changes.

I used to order from them regularly but stopped because their packaging is never fully sealed — which is a serious health hazard.
Every time I move meat from the freezer to the fridge to defrost, it LEAKS and creates a mess. At first, they apologized and refunded me.
But now that it’s been happening every single month, this is the response I just received (super unprofessional IMO - not my problem that your delivery partner chucks the packages.
It’s your responsibility to ensure that what your customers pay for is delivered in a clean and health-hazard free way)—
“ My supervisor has let me know that we won't be able to issue any further refunds or replace any further packages if this situation happens again, since this is something that occurs while your box is in transit and not in our possession.”
So if you are want to guarantee that your meat is health-hazard free - pick another provider.
These guys don’t really care.

I buy a lot of steaks from my local butcher, which are really good. I mainly buy ribeye steaks and that's what I bought from TruLocal.
Unfortunately even with a 25% off coupon, the steaks worked out to be $70/kg.
That is almost twice as much as what I pay at my local butcher shop, for fresh steaks.
And even though the steaks are good, they're not twice the price good.
I also noticed that some of the steaks had an odd texture.
I don't really know how to explain it, but it was not a meat texture that's for sure. It was just an odd texture that I've had with a few of the steaks.
Packaging was fine, the shipping was fast and these stakes were Frozen when they came.
So all of that was great it's just the price of it was not worth it for me.
I'd say maybe if you have a little extra money to spare, and you don't mind paying for the convenience of local meats coming to your doorstep, then this is probably for you.
But even with a coupon this was expensive.

I always praised the wonderful customer service at trulocal. However that ended with my most recent order. I had ordered a chuck roast, which took up over half my points. The picture shows a rolled roast, but I got a flat piece of meat. When I complained and asked for a credit, I was ignored. I cancelled my subscription due to poor customer service.

Extremely impressed with the quick and efficient delivery, the incredible quality of the meat and how fantastic their customer service is! Love the convenience of having exceptional meat delivered to my door! Will definitely continue to order!

We have been a member of TruLOCAL for many years now, and we are still as excited to unbox today as we were for the first time. The products are of high quality, they are traceable and ... local. We moved to a new province a few months ago, and the kind staff made the transition of the box smooth and easy. Thanks TruLOCAL, keep up the good work!

Disappointing order received today from Trulocal 2 packs of chicken wings were much smaller and not two rivers ..one sirloin steak was half the size of the usual 6 ounces..I complained and was asked to take pictures of the chicken and the steak which I did..then asked me to weigh them which I don’t have a scale for that..no offer of a refund or resolution..problem now resolved with a credit on my next order..now a happy customer

I've been using Tru Local for 2 years now and I enjoy the service! I like that I can order directly from local farmers and that I can get the information on the farmer from tru locals website so I can make ethical decisions and support local producers. I also appreciate that I can choose grass-fed options for much of the meat. For the delivery- I have always had great service. The package arrives within a couple of days of payment and is thoroughly frozen and can be easily placed in the freezer. On the occasion where I miss the courier, I haven't had any issues picking it up the next day or the product not being frozen enough. Overall, I would recommend tru local to anyone!

We have been customers of Trulocal for many years and they have consistently provided a top quality local product. The product is a little expensive but the quality is top notch. The order arrives quickly, to my door, frozen solid. I mostly buy fish and seafood, so this review would not cover beef or chicken.

TruLocal's products/suppliers continue to disappoint (you can cut an inside round to look like a striploin). Do better! Tough, tasteless and expensive as to the quality received. Looking for alternative suppliers as we speak.

Not happy that the salmon that I had in my order was packaged in 2023. In fact a few of my meats were. And best before is in August. Basically cancelling subscription
