Rate have gone worse over last 3 months

Been a Caxton user for 2 years. Checked the exchange rates a few months ago and Ukash were winning by 2.5 cents/£ . Ukash have now reduced their rates to about 0.5 cents/£.
Ukash also have a limit on how much you can draw out of an ATM in a month (even though you own the money).
I thought Ukash were the new kids on the block and were competing well against the established Cards and immediately applied for their card. In an attempt to get around the limit on ATM withdrawals I got my wife one - doubled the ATM withdrawal limit.
Now the exchange rates are almost equivalent with Caxton I am becoming very disappointed with Ukash.

Not a reliable card to use abroad.

I loaded the card but was unable to use to it to withdraw cash in vienna at first.I did manage to get through by phone on their customer service line eventually and the card worked for a while but then stopped me withdrawing when there were still about 600euros left. I had problems re accessing my acct on their website and when I did it would not let me top up the card. I gave up using it in vienna and went back to using my lloyds debit card which is expensive on charges but reliable. Now I am sorting my next trip but can not get through on their customer acct number nor access my acct on their website.
I have sent an e mail which apparently they will respond to in 48hours.

Our Travel Money Card has some limits in place just like any other financial product. That explains why you have been unable to withdraw money at some point.

Please check out our fees and limits at https://www.ukash.com/en-gb/products/travelmoneycard/fees/.

From what I see your query has now been sorted by our Customer Service Department. Please do not hesitate to get back to us directly if you need any further assistance.

Easy to use, best exchange rate!

I ordered this card through the Money Saving Expert website as it was recommended for having the best exchange rate and I got £5 credit for using the link on the website. I could top up the card online before I went away and also when my phone had wifi in the apartment we were renting I was able to top my card up every couple of days. It worked exactly like my debit card would - at the supermarket, restaurants and for free cash withdrawals from local ATM's. Would definitely recommend. You can check your balance by texting and to make this card even better it would be good if you could transfer money to your card by texting too. All in all will use again.

Excellent service and great rates

I have a euro travel card, it came quickly and works perfectly. No problems topping up, using cash point or paying in shops......excellent concept and the best rates.
I did need to call customer services with a query at one point and they were efficient, friendly and I had no issues getting through to them.
I did have doubts reading some of these reviews, but if you follow the instructions you should be fine. Just wish I'd got one years ago because the rates and convenience are worth it and better than carrying loads of cash.

Excellent!

I really have no idea why there are so many bad reviews of the Ukash Travel Money Mastercard. It was simple for me to order and set up, and i have already saved well over 20 EUR in the exchange rate difference between UKash and typical UK bank charges. I am very glad i ignored the bad reviews on here and just went for it anyway, and here is why..

The current actual EUR rate as of review 1.36 EUR to a pound

Ukash rate - just slightly over 1.34 EUR to a pound

My bank (like most) will offer 1.28 EUR to a pound after the usual 2.75% exchange rate fee, and another 2.75% to use a cash point abroad to take out the cash... Oh and most UK banks also charge another fee for using the cash point, usually a one off fee of 1.50.

Based on this i gain another 4 euros more per 100 with Ukash than i would with my bank.

Top up is easy if you have half a brain, yes it ain't the easiest but then you get what you pay for right? they obviously have not spent so much on the website so maybe this can be improved, but then again Ukash are not exactly making much on that tiny exchange rate markup, perhaps in the future they will revamp the site.

May i also add that using it abroad is no problem. Using it online to pay in Euros, also no problem. Infact it saves me money with Ryanair aswell i can pay in Euros with Ukash and benefit from the much better exchange rate.

I now spend 200-300 EUR a month on this card and is saving me over the year a small fortune! thanks Ukash!

Top up and customer service failures

Got the Ukash card after the Money Saving Expert recommended it. Arrived promptly with the initial £50 preloaded in Euros. 2 days before my holiday, decided to load the card with my holiday money. I didn't think I needed to be more organised as it was just a debit card payment! How wrong!
Website is very disconcerting taking you through too many screens and opening new ones and having to input security information again. Gives the impression of being redirected away from the official site.
Tried putting £600 on the card and got a message saying 'could not be completed due to our security systems. Try another card!' I did this with two more cards and got the same message. Naturally this included the card I had made the initial payment with, which was registered on their system already.
Then tried phoning customer service on a Saturday evening as it says they're open late Mon-sat. Not if you try to phone them! Apparently they're not actually open on a Saturday evening.
Had to phone after 11am on the Sunday to receive very poor customer service. They don't know what the problem is and don't know how to fix it. It's alright though because someone will be there tomorrow who they can pass the problem to. I fly today at 5pm though.
Not to worry I thought. I'm an optimist, I have my debit card here just take the payment over the phone. Surely that's a simple back up system. Clearly not! They don't do payments in any way other than online.
So now I have to got to the airport and get Euros there instead. I'm sure with their excellent reputation for customer service Ukash will refung me the money I lose in transferring £600 over the counter.
Foolishly I thought this would be a stress free way of travelling without cash. Not again!thanks for ruining the start of my holiday Ukash.

No security against cloning

I got this card for my daughter who is studying in America. She used the card somewhere where it was cloned and when reporting this to Ukash was told that there is no cover for this and all the money taken won't be recoverable at all. Also her account was $65 overdrawn which shouldn't happen and if she ordered a replacement card this would have to be repaid. Avoid if possible.

Ukash voucher not able to use

At last after long correspondence I have lost my A$100.00.
I could not able to use this voucher to buy things. After long correspondence the expiry date is over now. I bought this voucher from a BP petrol Station in Sydney by mistake and try to get refund from Ukash. But the procedure they have for refund is not suitable for me. Then I decided to use this voucher buying some thing over the net even I don't need much. But failed to use the voucher.
This company shouldn't be a 2 or 3 star rated company. Please beware of the company. you might be one of me.

Thanks

I have lost all of money

I bought a Ukash Voucher worh of $100.00 from BP petrol Station in Sydney, Australia but could not use this. I have tried too many times but failed to buy any product.
I have sent an email to Ukash (which is not easy)to get refund but the procedure is absolutely impossible as my identity will disclose very badly and once I disclose this the voucher will be out of my hand.
My voucher will expire next month.
To contact them over the phone is not cheap.though they said the call is free.
Never trust Ukash

Not worth the hassle leave well alone

Since I signed up to your service I have not had any thing but hassle.
1. Getting the MasterCard USD took two weeks after two long phone calls
2. Trying to top up the master card has been near impossible as I so far have only managed to top up with a £20 voucher code and then you charged me $5 fee whilst your promise “We won’t charge you any fees to get or spend a Ukash code" I then bought a £200 voucher via becharge only to find that we could not use it after going thru all the security checks to enable this. We were then told that it was now possible to try again but your system then told me it had failed only to then tell me it had completed, so now I am not sure where I stand.
3. I setup mydebit card to top up the MasterCard and this has still not worked and still awaiting feedback as to why?

I am going on holiday on Monday 1st December and have found your service to be far below par I would expect from a finance company.

Unfortunately you applied for the wrong card. We offer two types of prepaid card, Ukash Prepaid MasterCard which you can buy with Ukash vouchers and Ukash Travel Money Card which you can get with a debit card. We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused you. Given that you were about to go on holiday we were unable to rectify this and deliver a new card to you in time. We have closed your account and returned the balance to you.

I THINK I'VE MADE A BIG MISTAKE !!

I opened an account on line depositing a sum of money. I received the master card today, went online and managed to get into my account at first but couldn't view my balance, as to do so you are taken through another security procedure and it just didn't work. After several attempts I was then locked out. Not a good start and I'm beginning to doubt my decision to get this card. Their website is poor and doesn't fill me with confidence. Will give it another go tomorrow to see how it goes but I'm not holding my breath.

To check your balance online you need to visit mytravelcard.ukash.com and login using your cardholder ID that is shown on the front of your card underneath your name, unfortunately it sounds as though your account has been blocked.

We need to understand a bit more about what went wrong so that so please contact our customer service team https://www.ukash.com/en-gb/support/contact/

You can also check your balance for free using our SMS service, just text BALANCE + the last 4 digits of your 16 digit card number to 0044 786 002 4391.

Seriously not worth the aggravation....

Got a Ukash US Dollar Travel Money card for a three week trip to the USA.
On the face of it this card seems to offer a great value solution for travel money, but the reality is quite different.
Their website is a joke, it's very badly designed and unintuitive to use, there is no mobile version and the full website doesn't render correctly in iOS. I had multiple occasions where I could not top up, with an error message stating that 'the product requested is not available in your country' (or similar) or the website would just hang and eventually crash. Worse still, 'systems failures' rendered the card useless on at least two occasions, meaning no cash withdrawals and declined purchases. All customer services could do is apologise which isn't much use when you're thousands of miles from home and want access to your cash!
If you're going to offer this sort of service the IT systems, infrastructure and customer support need to be rock solid. Luckily I was prepared and had alternative ways of paying for things and obtaining cash, but others may not be so.
Additionally, I couldn't find ANY ATM machines in the US that didn't charge for withdrawals, even major banks like Chase, Wells Fargo and Bank of America. The minimum I got charged was $2.75, so any savings on exchange rates can be immediately wiped out.
I'm not really sure on the best way to manage holiday money, but I can tell you that this card really ISN'T it!

We are sorry that your experience of using Ukash Travel Money Card was not good. We value your feedback as we are committed to improving our customer service. I'd like to outline some of the improvements that we have made or are in the process of rolling out as a result of customer feedback.

In the next couple of weeks we will be launching a new look website with improved navigation so you will be able to access top-up and manage your card more easily wherever you are, what's more this will also render to any device be that laptop, tablet or mobile.

With regard the issue of not being able to top up your card - our card processor experienced an issue which affected all top-up's made using Visa cards for a small number of customers. Unfortunately you were affected by this issue and as a result we have put into place improved monitoring with our payments processor to identify problems quicker in an effort to avoid this happening again.

As for the ATMs, Ukash does not charge a fee for Cash Withdrawals made in the US and it is the ATM operators who pass on these charges to customers.

Once again we apologise for the inconvenience caused but we really appreciate your feedback.

Can't spend my Ukash

I can't spend the money, it's still about 5£ left on the Ukash code I bought. It's not about the money, it just that this is so bad. There is no support about this at all, so I guess I'm not the first to experience this. I strongly recommend DON*T USE UKASH.

Not even starting using the card and already had enough!!!

Got the pre paid dollar card as I saw it recommended on money supermarket. Got the card within 5 days which is fine. I then went to activate the card over the SMS service and keep getting a message saying 'function not possible card does not exist'. I have tried this several times now. I have also tried through the website only to be told my customer id does not exist. I have no confidence in this company so far. I have called and been on hold for over 2 hours on 3 desperate occasions due to 'high demand'. I don't believe that for one minute. No response to emails and finding it so hard to get hold of this company. I have since read reviews about the poor customer service and the fact a lot of thing don't work (topping up ect). I can see why. When I eventually get through I will be asking for the money I have on the card to be refunded. They seem like an inconsistent company with poor service and I haven't even used the card yet and don't want to bother risking it!!!!!!!!!!

We are sorry that your experience has not been great. We are not aware of any issues with retrieving the PIN either via our call centre or by the SMS service. We believe that this has been resolved and you have your PIN. We do not charge for the first time you request your PIN and you can request it anytime via SMS just text 'PIN' and the last 8 digits of your card number to 0044 786 002 4391.

We have had a fantastic response to our Travel Money Card with many happy customers but we are currently experiencing high call volumes and we would like to apologise for the delay in responding to your call.

We are working hard to improve our customer service all the time and we are adding more information and FAQs online at https://www.ukash.com/en-gb/support/faqs/?cat=1527. We are also adding more advisors to our customer service team so that we can handle more calls.

Many thanks for your feedback.

Poor Customer Service

I applied for and made the payment for a ukash prepaid mastercard, been over 3 weeks now and still no card. UKash customer services never reply to any contact. So looks like I now have to report the matter to the Financial Services Authority. Avoid Ukash if you are looking for good customer service.

Update:
Received my card after waiting a month, now UKash has removed the facility to combined vouchers, so if you have x2 £10 vouchers you pay x2 £2.50 loading fees. So from £20 you only have £15 to spend !!!!. beware of this new scam to get your cash!

We’re sorry to hear that you have not received your Ukash Prepaid MasterCard yet. This is very unusual because it takes a maximum of 10 working days for the card to arrive and we are not experiencing any issue with the deliveries (same thing applys for the Ukash Travel Money Prepaid MasterCard). Please be sure that one of our agents will get back to you today in order to investigate on this issue.
