Umbrella Freight Network is a members-only network of independent freight forwarders, founded in 2020 and headquartered in Columbus, Texas as Umbrella Freight Network LLC. The network exists to solve a problem familiar to any independent forwarder: handling shipments in countries where you have no office, and finding partners you can trust with your customers' cargo. Large open networks sell membership to anyone who pays, then leave members competing against each other in the same market. Umbrella works the other way round. We appoint one exclusive agent per country, so members are never bidding against a fellow member, and every applicant is vetted before being accepted. 54 member companies cover 65 countries. They collaborate on air, ocean, road and project cargo and exchange business directly with one another. Each member company holds a profile in the network directory listing its services, trade lanes and direct contacts, so a member in one country can reach the right person in another without going through an intermediary. The network runs an annual general meeting that brings members together in person for scheduled one-to-one meetings, which is where most partnerships actually begin. what cought my attention about joining Umbrella Network was that membership is not simply open to anyone. You need to be recommended and meet the values and requirements that Umbrella trully stands for: trust, honesty, fast replies and expertise. After being part of the network, I can say that these are not just words. They are values that we experience in our daily interactions with the members. And I feel like being part of a family. We support each other, share knowledge, help with challenges and genuinely try to create opportunities for one another. For me, a strong network is not only about business opportunities. It is about building relationships, trusting the people behind the companies and knowing that you have reliable partners in different parts of the world.
