I cannot believe any company can get away with being as incompetent and rude as Universal Music (UK - I can't speak for the rest of the world).
Years ago, if you were looking for information regarding a song, whether to record a cover, enquire about sync use, or just find something out, you could ring the music publisher and be put through to the relevant department and speak to someone who would try and help.
If you were a writer yourself, and your songs were signed to a music publisher, you could call them and ask questions, especially regarding your royalties or any accounting queries.
NOW - Universal Music seem to have deemed themselves demi-gods or something. Whether making an enquiry OR as a writer ON THEIR BOOKS, they WILL NOT put you through to ANYONE with any kind of query.
Even if (as in my case) you have been trying to simply get a bank account changed for royalty payments, and have been through all the loops via emails to fill in their forms, spent time communicating with anyone willing to (eventually) reply to emails - (who then mid-way, leave the company!) - they STILL REFUSE to put you through to ANYONE. Oh and then if you object, they will put the phone down on you!
I would NEVER wish to do business with them again and if there are any publishers out there wanting my catalogue, I'd gladly get out - IF, that is, YOU can get through to them to get it taken over and all back-payments they haven't paid due to NOT changing my bank details, paid to me - with interest!!!
Oh and BTW, I know I am not alone. Bigger writers than me have had similar issues with them. I just don't know how they can get away with the incompetence and arrogance.
