A Step in the Right Direction, But Key Flaws Remain

I'm always on the lookout for tools that can streamline the job search process. I've compared Canyon to my go-to tools, LiveCareer and Simplify.jobs, as well as other AppSumo offerings like ResumeUp.ai and Prepin.ai. While Canyon has some really useful features and a promising roadmap, it still falls a little short of being the comprehensive solution I'm looking for. It has the potential to be a "unicorn," but it needs significant improvements to truly compete with the benchmarks set by Simplify.jobs and LiveCareer.

A Step in the Right Direction, But Key Flaws Remain
Since my initial testing of this tool in Feb, 2025, Canyon's resume writer has seen considerable improvements. The platform now offers users much greater control over the format and content, allowing for the creation of a far better and more customized resume. While the resume rating system is still not perfect, it now at least provides better explanations for the score. However, it would be even more beneficial if the rating were more personalized to the amount of experience an individual possesses. Overall, the updated resume writer makes Canyon a good product, especially for those at the beginning or mid-career levels.

Despite these positive changes to the resume builder, a critical feature, the auto-apply, has never worked for me. The Chrome plugin is advertised to auto-apply on various job sites like Indeed, Glassdoor, LinkedIn, Workday, and Greenhouse, but in my experience, it does not function at all, anywhere. The only reliable function of their Chrome plugin is the application tracking feature, which works pretty well for adding jobs to the tracker. However, for actual auto-application, I still need to rely on alternative tools such as Simplify or Loop CV, as they support auto-apply across a wider range of job boards.

Canyon's autofill capabilities are also limited, only uploading your resume and filling in your name and email address, leaving you to manually fill in everything else. It also doesn't work for a number of popular platforms that other tools in this class support.

Job Tracker and Interview Prep Limitations
The job tracker itself has serious limitations. There is no mechanism to delete anything from the job board, which makes managing your applications more difficult. While Canyon offers a set of application statuses (Applied, Interviewing, Offer, Rejected, Wishlist), they are lacking key statuses that are essential for a complete overview of the job search lifecycle. Canyon could take a play from Simplify's playbook and add statuses like "Saved," "Screen," "Withdrawn," "Ghosted," and "Accepted."

In addition, while the interview prep tool is functional, the features offered are quite basic. While these interview prep functions are helpful, they are not my primary requirement for a tool like Canyon.

Conclusion
In conclusion, Canyon is a decent enough tool for resume building, showing significant improvement in that area. However, the job auto-apply feature needs a considerable amount of work to become functional and reliable. For this reason, I can only give this app a 2-star rating.
