No compassion in putting my elderly sick cat to sleep. Medication was pushed wuickly without him having time to just go to sleep. Followed quickly with the second dose.

Dr Fiore is an incredible , caring , empathetic, kind, professional veterinarian. She is in a class all by herself. I only wish she did private veterinary work. Her empathy and compassion is unmatched
Sydney is the sweetest, kindest, most wonderful soul that I have ever met and it was during one of the most difficult times of my life
Our beautiful sweet dog Lucky had to be put to sleep and it was one of the most difficult decisions we ever had to make My fur baby was suffering He was in so much pain. He couldn’t walk. He wouldn’t eat or drink.
VEG put us in a private room. They gave us all the time we needed. Sydney took care of us as if we were her own family.
I requested Dr Fiore as she had helped save my dog Porsche a few weeks prior. She said it would be her honor. She examined him and explained the situation. She explained the steps before and during it. We were all crying and Dr Fiore and Sydney were so comforting to us.
The experience was as good as it could be considering the situation.
After it was over Sydney asked us to tell her about Lucky. She made paw prints and nose prints and again asked us if we needed more time. She was an angel.
I just want everyone to know the humanity and kindness that VEG Carle Place on Glen Cove Road showed my sweet Lucky and my family. We couldn’t have found a more compassionate group of people to help us through one of our most difficult moments.
Thank you Dr Fiore, Sydney and the entire staff of VEG ER Carle place.
Sydney you have the most difficult job and you handle it with such humanity, kindness, and such innate caring. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. You are an incredible human being.

Our dog was dying. I called and they met us at the door. The staff was so kind and understanding. They gave us all the time we needed to say goodbye. Angels sent from heaven.

Took my dog to VEG after being bit by a snake. Dr looks at dog and says no just sprained his paw and gave him anti inflammatory meds and me a 298$ bill. Fast forward an hour later while he is home his stomach turns blue and starts to swell. I go back to VEG and the same Dr decides to actually examine him thoroughly and says oh im sorry he did get bit by a snake. I missed it. Really you don't say. I told you this. 4,000$ later I ended up taking him to another vet because he was getting progressively worse and they are only concerned with money. As I was walking out with him they say oh you owe another 698$. They take advantage of people knowing most will do anything for there pet.

Human ER's take a long time. Often you have to wait a couple of hours to be seen. But VEG pet ER's? How long do you wait there? Apparently you have to wait 7 hours. Yep, you read that right. 7 Hours. What else can you do in 7 hours. You can fly to England and get a cup of tea thats what.

I took ownership of some ones else's 3 month old dachshund puppy due to them not being able to pay for emergency vet care I first took it to my personal vet who within 20 minutes diagnosed him with pneumonia and air trap in the abdomen and labored breathing, My vet does not have an oxygen kennel so I needed an emergency clinic and was told by some of the staff about VEG ER PETS in Rockledge so I rushed the puppy there. I took xrays and the diagnosis from my vet with me. The staff meet me at the door and seemed attentive but could not get an IV in his leg so they put it in his kneck. They asked questions about what happened but we had no answers because the owner would not give us any details. They placed him in the oxygen kennel and got his temp to 97 because he was very cold, when they came to talk to me they were very grimm about his survival, they explained several times they were trying to figure out what was causes his issues. I repeated myself several times that he has pneumonia he needs a nebulizer for breathing treatments and to decompress the air in his abdomen. that was ignored and they repeated again they were trying to find the cause. I asked again can you do breathing treatments with the nebulizer and maybe steroids to open his lungs put him on antibiotics but the response was they were looking for the cause, I again asked them to treat him for pneumonia this went on for 6 and a half hours with them doing multiple scans and checking his temp but never once treated him for pneumonia. after 6 and a half hours of doing nothing but monitoring the puppy the vet said it was pneumonia and they would start antibiotics I also wanted them to give him liquids through the IV because he was dehydrated they never did that the entire 6 and a half hours. They were all very nice women but their medical training and knowledge was the worse I had ever seen they let this 2 pound puppy gasp and struggle for air when they could have saved his life if they would had treated him instead of ignored the proper treatment any other vet would have immediately done. It is not different than treating a human even I know this much. I had to leave becuase I needed to check on my 14 year old cur dog by the time I got home less than 30 minutes the puppy died I am so upset that this place is full of uneducated staff and I took this puppy there for emergency treatment and he got none. I am so disgusted with this place and I am launching a formal complaint against them for ignoring the proper treatment and doing nothing but billing me more and more while they let this puppy suffer. I hope they can not rest at night because I cant for thinking they were vets and would properly treat this puppy. his name was Louie and he mattered!

I brought my 14-year-old terrier to VEG because he was lethargic, severely swollen, and clearly not himself. As a senior dog, I knew his age was working against him, but I was scared, emotional, and desperately hoping for answers or some way to help him.
When we arrived, I felt there was hope. We discussed diagnostics and treatment options, and I agreed to the recommended testing, including bloodwork. Unfortunately, despite multiple attempts, they were unable to obtain a blood sample because of his severe swelling.
After spending more than $2,000 and going through an incredibly emotional experience, I was then told by the doctor that, based solely on his appearance and symptoms, he most likely had a fatal condition, although it could not be confirmed without the bloodwork they were unable to complete. I was essentially left with the impression that there was little to nothing that could be done for him.
As a pet owner in a very vulnerable state, that was devastating to hear. What made it even more difficult was feeling as though I was given hope at the beginning of the process, only to be told later that the outlook was likely terminal without any definitive diagnosis. I understand that not every case has a positive outcome, especially with an elderly dog, but the emotional roller coaster, combined with the significant expense, left me feeling disappointed and heartbroken.
To add to my frustration, payment was required upfront, and I am still waiting for a refund for the bloodwork that was never successfully completed.
Losing a pet—or facing the possibility of losing one—is one of the hardest experiences a person can go through. During that time, compassion, transparency, and realistic expectations matter just as much as medical care

Twice in six months we've had to take my pupper in at night. First time was Dr. Mak back in November. This time Dr. Chung was there, then Dr. Miller took over and ran with him through his recovery.
Both times there was a full team there—people coordinating, moving fast, staying calm. They explained what was happening without talking down to us. Just focused on getting our dog through it. Extremely knowledgeable and patient-oriented.
I'm not great at these reviews but I needed to say it somewhere—they genuinely SAVED HIS LIFE this time. We're grateful doesn't even cover it, but that's the honest version. If you need emergency vet care in Brooklyn, they're the people to call!
A big THANK YOU to everyone like Abigail, David, and many more I can't remember from the heat of the moment. I'll be sure to be more careful, in hopes I never need their services again. 💐🙏

My mixed-breed dog had a swollen leg with a circular incision that wouldn't stop bleeding. I brought her to VEG, and after a 6-hour wait, they told me the leg was cancerous, and the cancer had spread to her lungs. They offered to remove the leg or put her down immediately. I asked how long she had, and they said they didn't know, but a very short amount of time. I left in tears and mourned for three days (by mourning, I mean crying non-stop).
On the third day, the swelling had gone down, so I made an appointment with the regular vet. They got a blood sample from her leg, and under 10 minutes later, told me the sample was cancer-free. Her leg simply had an infection of some kind. The leg healed. Our dog is fine.
When I think about how close I came to putting our sweet pup down at the advice of the careless "vets" at VEG, it absolutely breaks my heart. Oh, and I paid over $2000 for that appointment. DO NOT BRING YOUR PET HERE.

Make this place your last option if you have a dog that is sick. They take advantage of you because they know you would do anything for your fur baby. Our fur baby was in there for 2 1/2 days and they charged us a crazy amount! They are not nice and no compassion! They said, there was a low and high end of treatment. They charged us well over the high end. We finally brought our baby to our vet and she has called and followed up making sure our fur baby gets the treatment she needs. I will never go to them again and I will be telling everyone I know. They even charge $500.00 for misc. every day telling me it was in case they had to do treatment overnight and they wouldn't have to call me. How absurd! Take your fur baby somewhere else where they really care!

“I am absolutely appalled by the treatment I received at this veterinary emergency clinic. After following up on my dog’s care, I was met with cold indifference from the on-call doctor. Despite my pet being in pain, the doctor dismissed me outright, refusing to offer any guidance or referral. This lack of compassion and professionalism is inexcusable—especially from a place that charges a premium and claims to love animals. To be clear, I have spent over $18,000 in less than a year between this ER and Blue Pearl for my pet. The least they can do is act like they care. On a positive note, when I visited in early May, Dr. Tippie was my dog’s doctor, and she was, by far, the most truthful, compassionate, and skilled veterinarian I have met. The stark contrast between Dr. Tippie’s care and today’s experience is frankly disgraceful.”

I am extremely disappointed with the care my friend received at VEG ER, specifically from Dr. Casey McCabe. My friend brought her dog, Rusty, to the Carle Place location after he ate mulch and developed a blockage. This was a condition that could be treated with surgery, and my friend was fully willing to do whatever it took financially to save her dog.
Instead of discussing surgery as a viable option, Dr. McCabe advised her to put Rusty down. As a pet owner, hearing that when there was still hope and treatment available is absolutely heartbreaking and unacceptable.
Thankfully, my friend trusted her instincts and chose to move forward with the surgery anyway. Today, Rusty is alive, healthy, happy, and running around like nothing ever happened.
I cannot understand why euthanasia would be pushed so quickly when the issue was treatable and the owner was willing to proceed with care. Pet owners deserve honesty, compassion, and every reasonable option explained to them before being told to say goodbye to a beloved family member.
In March 2026, we received the news from our primary care vet that our 3-year-old Anatolian Shepherd was suffering from acute kidney failure due to a negative reaction to an NSAID prescribed for his strained hip flexor – and he needed immediate advanced medical treatment. We made the 3-hour drive from outside Wichita to VEG – Overland Park with Yannu, not knowing if he would survive the night. Ultimately, Yannu was a "guest" in the VEG ICU for 10 days. However, today, he is home and getting stronger every day. That outcome is entirely because of this amazing team and the founding principles that make VEG truly unique and immeasurably better than traditional "Vet ERs".
From arrival, the care was fundamentally different. They welcomed us at the door and started intake procedures immediately. We saw Dr. Morgan within minutes; he connected with Yannu instantly and championed us through our stay, including some administrative hurdles with a specialty hospital to get critical test results. His dedication and tireless support is second to none. We had the unique opportunity to work with many doctors and nurses – every one of them playing a crucial role in Yannu's journey and ultimate path to recovery. Dr. Halpin sat on the floor of his room in the middle of the nights, answering all of our questions with patience during the first critical 24 hours. Dr. Ray cut red tape to secure a specialist transfer to the specialty hospital to get critical life-saving tests. Dr. Baxter refused to give up on our darkest night, giving us a plan and hope when we thought we had none. Crucially, the team brought in Dr. White, an Internal Medicine specialist, to consult on Yannu's case. She provided a plan and returned on her day off to check on him, even hand-feeding him sitting on the floor of his room. Under Dr. Nezerka's leadership, this culture of excellence is not only possible, it is the standard by which they operate.
The nurses were the backbone of our stay. Dawn was Yannu's favorite—her green pigtails, silly endearing nicknames for him, and the way she checked in on him and even ventured into a rainstorm to help us walk him made her a friend, not just a caregiver. Chrissy was able to place his feeding tube, using a non-standard technique due to his sensitivities and strong reaction to it, and her skill and efficiencies with blood draws and catheters was a work of art. Caitlin was our constant, pulling double duty as both a day and night nurse during our stay. She explained every procedure and taught us a cream cheese pill trick we'll use forever! Kenzie's smile and upbeat energy lightened the heaviest days, and her quick attention and unwavering support were invaluable. And Constance—at 11 PM when we rushed back from the specialty hospital in tears—said "bring him back, we got you" and guided us through chaos. Everyone, including several nurses and doctors not mentioned, were part of his journey – living the VEG principles and giving amazing care and compassion as well as encouragement and guidance.
Non-medical staff went above and beyond as well: Jess and Heather built a couch bed for our room. Joe from the Ace Hardware next door assembled a park bench in under 20 minutes and delivered it so Yannu could sit in the sun—that bench literally built us a path home with the doctors and nurses administering treatments on Yannu's Bench – meeting him where he was at.
Having experienced a different "old school" facility with a very different outcome a few years ago, as well as at the specialty hospital, we truly understand the value of what VEG brings to the table. Their approach is a breath of fresh air and exactly what the world needs. We drove 3 hours for this care, and it was worth every mile. We are not just grateful—we are advocates. If you are looking for a team that will fight for your pet as hard as you will, this is the place. There are not enough "stars" to truly rate VEG – Overland Park, but we hope this review helps recognize their excellence of care – we would not go anywhere else for emergency care for our precious furbabies.

We were holding a large outdoor event in Pittsburgh in which the weather was quite warm. A Veg Er tech was attending and noticed a dog at the event suffering a heat stroke. With a confirmed temperature of 108, she immediately took action and saved the dogs life. We fully support Veg Er and recommend their services.

It’s bad enough to have to take a pet to an emergency room, but the unexpected expense was problematic. Instead of working with me to develop a payment plan, the facility would not let me leave without paying a hefty tab that I did not have at the time. They forced me to take out a predatory loan on the spot, which lowered my credit score. They charged an arm and a leg, I suppose because they can. (The equivalent of 5 Pepcid pills was $30.) The lack of compassion at a facility like this is a sad statement. Avoid these at all cost.

We knew what was wrong with our dog. We could see it clearly in his eye, as we told them. The cornea of the eye had a hole in it, a cornea ulcer, the dog must have bumped into something. I have had this done myself. When we walked into the large over priced building; they offered "free" snacks and drinks twice. Took a long time getting to us.... many (many) extras walking around the place. A good doctor has one assistance maybe two, in other words a bit too many in my option. So the California Spa look was in the extravagant fees. This should have been a quick look, test, and sent home with an ointment for about one hundred dollars. NO, No, over $450. For what?... but fringe... with a very young doctor with little field work. I was told they would refund about $120. but as the over $450. fee was taking out of my acct immediately, there has not yet been this drop in price credited to my acct. I had to call to get them moving on a refund.
An associate came over with a board and charged me before treating the dog. They would know what this cost would be, which shows less experience on their part. They also did not put the first dose of the medicine in his eye. No, sent us home to do it ourselves. Please find yourself another place to take your dog. The prices are not worth this place. Did they treat the dog's problem, yes. but you may save a few hundred dollars.

I never would I have thought that I would have the experience I did at VEG when I had to bring my other dog in who had unexpectedly passed at home after his primary vet had closed for the day (Thursday 4/23/26). I regret not taking him to any other emergency animal hospital for his end of life purposes. I called the Georgetown location initially as I was in a state of panic (he was ten plus years old, I adopted him in December 2025 knowing he had a heart murmur and was also deaf. He was brought to DC by who saved him from a kill shelter and he was very loved) as he had simply collapsed on the dining room floor and passed away immediately - traumatizing to say the least. The woman who answered my call at the Georgetown location was helpful and she gave me the phone number to the closer location to me - H Street. Once we arrived, I called the phone number to let them know we were there as we needed assistance getting him inside (they were aware of this and instructed me to call upon arrival). I was outside of the door watching my phone call go unanswered as my mother, a retired vet tech, and brother-in-law waited at the car with my deceased boy. After a dozen rings, my call was answered and they informed me they would get a stretcher and meet us outside. They were prompt in getting him from the car without any further communication. I followed them into the building and they took him into a room and immediately left. I sat there with his body wrapped in a blanket on the table/stretcher until another person came in. I was handed a clipboard and told to fill out the paperwork and once complete, to ring the bell and they would come back in. There was NO introduction. No asking of his name or what had happened. No care whatsoever about who he was or how he passed. I, devastated and distraught, offered a bit of his story up and it was dismissed rather quickly. The paperwork was taken and I was told to go up front and pay. My dog left there on that table wrapped in a blanket like a heap of garbage. Nobody, not one person, introduced themselves to us. Not a single person took the time to show any sympathy or interest in us or my dog. They never uncovered him to take a look, they never touched him, nothing. Not a single person took the time to explain anything or offer any kind of condolences. It was the most ingenuine, harsh, impersonal and downright disturbing experience I have ever been a part of. The hospital had doctors on the floor and no other animals were in sight. I am not saying that there weren't any present or that there weren't vets and/or vet techs tending to other patients - but I am saying that there was absolutely no reason whatsoever that my dog and I received little to no attention or interest. The entire thing from the moment we walked in to the minute we left was no more than 10 or so minutes. It was disgusting. Furthermore, in ALL of the times I have had to take my past dogs in for their end of life moments, I have always received, at the very least, an email or automated text offering condolences on the passing of my animals. All were always followed by a card or note of some sort. I chose the communal cremation, as I always have, and am extremely disappointed in the lack of follow up after trusting VEG with my boy at the end of his life - which was not much to expect given the horrible and disturbing experience I had when choosing VEG for my dogs end of life cremation and carry. This is not the place to go if you want someone to care. It was nothing more than a monetary gain for them and it was truly disheartening and extremely upsetting in every way. I will never recommend VEG to anyone - not for primary care nor end of life services and I can certainly guarantee that I will be in touch about my experience with the right people and organizations in an effort to prevent anyone else from having to say goodbye to their beloved pets the way I had to at VEG. I am unwell over the entire experience and I will be very vocal about it to the right people. I discourage anyone from choosing VEG.

We took our old english Sheepdogs there on rampart Saturday evening. I can't say enough positive things about the high caliber of care and love everyone showed every animal not just our boy. He will be fine after we got the tests and blood work plus trays. We left with a diagnosis and prescriptions that he required. We highly recommend this vet er.

These are greedy psychopaths the young kids that work there can’t save a pets life. They’re young and clueless to add insult to injury they lied and blamed me save your money go to your vet. These people running this shit show are psychopaths.

Recent visit based on DVM Funkhauser who was way out of line. She called Animal Control because my sport /service dog had a brief altercation with my other dog both belgian intact males. It was a minor injury and many dogs come in there from dog bites. These were 2 of my own vaccinated highly trained sport dogs that accidently got together. Dr Funkhauser was way out of line. She even reported my dog as the wrong breed...cant she read the chart? She is being reported to the Veterinsry Board. Up until now I gave very high ratings to VEG but will never go back to my local VEG in Oceanside CA nor recommend to my business clients. Encinitas has a better team.
