Serious safety issues, nonexistent after-sales support, total loss of trust

My experience with VinFast Canada has been unacceptable.

Since taking delivery of my 2024 VinFast VF8 Plus, I have faced repeated and serious mechanical and electronic issues, combined with a slow, disorganized, and unprofessional after-sales service.

The vehicle is not officially immobilized, but I have chosen not to drive it for the past two weeks due to a complete lack of trust in its reliability and safety.

Major issues experienced:

The vehicle completely shut down while driving on Highway 117, creating a dangerous situation.
After-sales support hung up on me, and no assistance was sent.
A complete stranger helped me, not VinFast.

On another occasion, the windshield wipers stopped in the middle of the windshield, making the vehicle unsafe.
It took 12 calls over 3 days just to secure a service appointment.

Another time, the key was not recognized by the vehicle for nearly 48 hours.
Customer service response: “We don’t see any issue.”

Recently, while the vehicle was parked and unused, the anti-theft alarm randomly triggered 4 to 5 times overnight, with no cause.
Doors locked, no movement, no attempted access.

Despite this incident, VinFast was unable to arrange a towing service.

Customer service problems:

resolution timelines lasting several months;

promised callbacks never delivered;

generic, copy-paste responses;

incorrect information in my file;

no courtesy vehicle, even in critical situations;

no access to anyone with actual decision-making authority.

I am still paying a lease for a vehicle I no longer feel safe driving. My trust in VinFast is completely broken.

I do not recommend VinFast, their vehicles, or their customer service.

Vinfast is not worth your time or money.

I purchased this car this year back in March ish. And has been cool for the first 5 days then its been a back to back issue. It's easier for me to lay out a list of issues and havent gotten results from.
You can not turn off auto high beams, mines turns back on even though I manually turn it off.
Once you turn off creep mode. Everytime you start the car it reenables it.
The windows constantly say something is blocking it from rolling up.
The rear view mirror makes everything looks like its a circus distortion mirror.
The Park, Reverse, Drive button dont work on the first press.
the comfort access buttons on the handle to enter the car without selecting the button on the key works 4/10 times.
My main issues are as listed from here below. The SOS function does not work. I tried calling and nothing. (Many times) because roughly every mile you drive it. I am getting spammed with a notification that SOS doesnt work and a constant noise stating it doesnt work. Vinfast has told me there is not a fix for that.
There is probably a couple more things im not thinking of at this moment.

Now heres why I would never suggest this car to another person.
I went fishing and arrived at 7AM and all was fine. I went to change what screen I was on and somehow the screen was cracked. (we took the same route as before and its not rough at all.) I called Vinfast and they said bring it in. After doing so, the tech noticed its crack on the inside. and nothing hit it from the outside, possible pressure crack. Vinfast has denied me my warranty on a new car ive had for 6 months. And told me this is my problem and my responsibilty. Not to mention, the reason I stress this is because now the A/C, radio, phone calls, any functionality of the screen does not work anymore. the screen only displays what was last on and nothing else. Now I have a useless Ipad in my car. What is the point of warranty...
With all said above. I cant stress how silly of a purchase this could be. Needless to say, for a company trying to get into American markets. This is a horrible showing.

I will be posting this review on other platforms.

Ongoing Issues Are Making This Car Hard to Enjoy

I decided to lease the VinFast VF8 primarily due to the promotional incentives being offered at the time. I also had negative equity in my previous vehicle, and the dealership was able to work with me to make the transition possible. I was excited—it was my first EV, and I really wanted to support a newer automaker. Unfortunately, the experience has been frustrating from the start.

Electrical Issues:

I encounter electrical problems almost daily. The blind spot detection sensors frequently stop working, despite the car being garage-kept and cleaned regularly. The indicator stays illuminated in both mirrors with no real reason why.

The SOS system is another ongoing issue—it sends repeated alerts that the service is inactive, then clears itself, only to return a few minutes later. On my 20-mile commute, I’ll hear the notification sound at least 10 times each way. The car also makes random warning chimes throughout the drive, often too briefly for me to catch what’s wrong before the alert disappears. These could be related to the collision sensors or other systems—it’s hard to tell.

The driver-side master window controls also don’t work properly. When I attempt to roll up the windows, most of them don’t respond on the first try. I often need to press the switch three or four times. Using the auto-up feature results in the car acting like something is blocking the window—even when nothing is there.

The comfort access feature (keyless entry via door handle) is extremely inconsistent, working maybe 30% of the time. When it doesn’t work, it defeats the entire purpose of having it.

Charging is another pain point. Instead of simply unlocking the car to stop the charge, I have to enter the vehicle, manually end the charging session, then get out and unplug it. This should be a much smoother process.

VinFast partners with Autel for their wall-mounted chargers, but getting support from them has been frustrating. They take no ownership of the issues I’ve had and often push the problem back to the dealership. It also feels like you’re pressured into buying the Level 2 charger since charging the vehicle from 60% to 80% using a standard outlet can take nearly 24 hours.

Even small things like startup behavior become annoying: the second you tap the brake to power on the car, you’re bombarded with seatbelt alerts. There’s no grace period like in most vehicles.

Apple CarPlay is also unreliable, only working about 70% of the time.

Interior Issues:

The rearview mirror warps and distorts everything behind you. It’s hard to describe, but it makes vehicles look oddly stretched or distorted—almost like funhouse mirrors. I’m not sure if it’s the glass quality or a design flaw.

Mechanical Issues:

The ride quality is very poor. The suspension feels dated—like something from an early 2000s car. It’s stiff, loud, and does a poor job of absorbing road imperfections. It also doesn’t handle corners well at all.

Folding down the rear seats is simple enough, but putting them back up requires a surprising amount of strength. I’m able to manage, but I can see this being a real challenge for older drivers or anyone with limited mobility.

Accessing the front trunk (frunk) is also unnecessarily difficult. You need to pull the lever five times with considerable force just to get it to release—it honestly feels like something might break.

Final Thoughts:

There may be more issues I’m forgetting, but overall, I’d rate this car a 2 out of 10. Communication with my local VinFast dealership has been difficult due to constant staff turnover, and dealing with Autel for charger issues has been equally frustrating.

For a company that had access to the EV landscape and a chance to learn from more established brands, VinFast has released something that feels rushed and unfinished. I understand they’re a young company, but after nearly a decade in development, this vehicle should be much more refined—especially at a price point near $50,000. I wouldn’t choose this car again, and I can’t recommend it in its current state.
