I had a terrible and stressful experience renting a dress from The Volte for a gala ball. I paid $360 for a dress that was scheduled to arrive two days before my event.
However, two days before the gala, I received a call from The Volte on behalf of the lender asking if I still wanted the dress sent, since it hadn't been shipped yet. At that late stage, I felt I had no other choice but to say yes.
Unfortunately, it was too late. The dress was not shipped until that day, and it arrived the following day when no one was home to sign for the DHL delivery. The dress was finally redelivered two days after my event, making it completely useless to me. The lender left so little time that redelivery prior to the event was impossible. When I communicated this to the lender she told me 'that I should have stayed at home from work that day and waited for her dress!'
To make matters worse, when I communicated with the lender, she was unprofessional and rude in her messages and took no responsibility for the issue. The Volte also handled the case poorly, and I had to cancel the transaction on my credit card to get my money back.
The service was completely unreliable and stressful from start to finish. I would never use The Volte again.
I was nervous renting my first dress, so I tried it on first at a designer store before booking with The Volte. The dress arrived a day late, which I thought was unreliable, but I was relieved that I had purposely ordered it a day earlier just in case. The dress was crunches up in a parcel bag, without any other protection over it.
I was in disbelief when I saw the dress. It was dirty, had a rip with botched up stitching (not exactly 'Luxury' as the lender promotes on her page), had hair all over it and was also 2-3 sizes too big which did not make sense given I had tried the dress on previously. The size tag had also been ripped off. The biggest shock to me was the quality, it was not the same material that I had tried on in store and did not have the same boning structure in it. I knew for sure it was a mock off dress.
A concept that was created to be easy for finding a dress soon became so stressful. I spent the evening before my event scrambling to buy a dress - ending up spending hundreds of dollars when I really went on the Volte to save these costs. During my hire period, I notified the lender as well as the customer service team. Providing every piece of evidence they requested including time stamped photos.
To put it simply, they were shocking to deal with and I don't even know how they are still in business. They kept deflecting every single one of my points of concerns with 'As per our terms and conditions'. They did not address any of the concerns and instead kept defending the lender by saying things such as 'The lender said you were the one to rip the dress' and 'The lender denies the allegations so we cannot refund' DESPITE the photo evidence. I even provided a receipt of the dress i purchased. I was outraged that someone would do such a thing
This went on for 4 weeks, going back and forth with their denial. It also took them days to reply and once they had run out of reasons as to why they could not refund me, they then said 'its because it has now been passed 10 days. Umm it took them so long to respond to me, I had given everything they asked for AND raised the issue the weekend of my hire. How dare they. I told them I would not return the dress until my issue was escalated. Paying $150 for a dress that was in this condition and also FAKE is appalling.
After 4 weeks of this, the lender stalked me online, found my workplace via LinkedIn, called them and harassed them verbally. She also accused me of being a thief to them and asked why they would hire me ect. On this same day, she had requested to follow me on instagram and to my surpise she was harrasing me via dms and had my private linked in page on her story, defaming me for theft.
It is against the websites policies for the lenders to contact the customers outside of the website platform, let alone to threaten, harass and publicly defame them.
I am so glad I held strong as they finally refunded me *under the condition I didnt press charged to the lender*.
This site is so dodgy, unreliable and I am so disgusted by all of this...
Paid $158 to hire a designer dress. It arrived in a small satchel all scrunched up. It looked and smelt like it had not been dry cleaned. The bottom was all stained. When I sent a complaint the lender offered a $15 refund, what a joke!
I was sent a filthy, and damaged dress. It was completely unwearable for the event I had. Then when I raised the fact the dress was covered in black stains it was advised that it was “wear and tear” absolutely terrible! Do not use this service, company is fraudulent. Ended up being out of pocket for a dress I didn’t even wear. Do not give them one cent of your money,
received my dress, had a pull/hole in the zip, which was fine, i took photos just incase, not thinking anything of it because with a hole that noticeable at the zip, the lender would know it’s there, anyways i receive an email with a photo of the pull in the zip and an invoice to pay, i replied with the photos i had and they kept saying they couldn’t see it, sent it 4 times they still “couldn’t see it” wouldn’t recommend

Rented a dress online for a Saturday wedding interstate. The lender posted the dress on the same Monday, I thought everything would be fine. I arrived on Thursday thinking the dress would definitely get there before I did, IT DID NOT. I started panicking on Friday as the dress still was nowhere to be found. The tracking number wasn’t even correct, this goes to show that the customer service team didn’t even verify if the tracking number was correct.
I then contacted the customer service team, they then had to chase up the lender for the correct tracking number only to found out the lender did not ship it through express shipping, so I was not going to have a dress for the next day.
At this stage, it was Friday afternoon. They then informed me they could send me a link to see which dresses are available for pick up on Friday. I sent them three different links and they said they would contact those lenders to see if I could go try them. After that, it was radio silence. No one contacted me ever after that. Not a phone call or a text following up on the available dresses for me to try/pick up for the wedding I needed to attend in less than 24 hours.
So disappointing my daughters formal is tonight i was still hoping to get her dress yesterday but had to get one last night with little stock left. I ordered this dress weeks ago and the lender even emailed and said that they wouldnt have the small but would have the xs since then no response from the lender at all and limited from The Volte, these lenders need to be better vetted and made to pay a security bond to lend. I think this service needs to be investigated by consumed affairs.
I had a very disappointing first experience with The Volte.
I rented a dress that was listed as “ Condition New (With Tags)”. When I tried on the dress I noticed extensive and obvious damage on the dress. I reached out to the lender (out of good faith it was an accident) within 15 mins of receiving the dress - she denied there was any damage but eventually said there was loose appliqué and I could sew this down to secure it.
I then reached out to The Volte customer service, who said they could offer me a full refund if I sent back the dress the following morning. Once I did that and sent proof of postage, they revoked the refund offer and said they are talking to the lender as this could fall under “normal wear and tear”. I’m not sure how loose appliqué that needs securing is normal wear and tear. Nor should a customer have to do this.
I feel extremely misled that I’ve sent back the dress under the guise I would get a refund, but now have potentially paid for a dress that was damaged and had it for less than 12 hours.
What a dodgy business.
If there were a 0 star rating I would also put this. I hired a dress recently for an event with plenty of notice. The dress did not arrive for my event and therefore was shipped back to the lender within the 2 business days as per the terms and conditions. I was then eligible for a full refund from the lender as it did not get here in time for my event and it was posted back. I then get an email saying that lender said the dress had a certain smell to it so I would not be eligible for a refund. I then proceeded to show how frustrated I was and explain it was unworn and they diverted to another reason as to why I wouldn’t be eligible. They explained that it should have been posted over the weekend as most post offices are open Saturday. I then explained that I live in a VERY rural town of up to 500 people hence why I was hiring a dress and our post services do not open weekends. Seems they will find any excuse possible to not give money back when the fault is at their end. Very disappointed and frustrating! Plenty other hire sites I would use well and truly before this one!
If there was an option for 0 stars I would put that. Had the worst experience with the Volte. My first time hiring a dress and hired 2-3 weeks ago. Told the lender about my concerns if the dress will arrive in time about a week after I hired, they said yes don’t worry it will come in time xx. Fast forward today I message the lender about the status about the dress as the order is currently unfulfilled and was supposed to come in 2 days. Get an email from The Volte saying the dress is unavailable, not even from the lender. I literally have a wedding this week on Saturday and I am a bridesmaid. Emailed them back, all they said was sorry and gave me 25% off and recommended another lender as if i’m going to buy from them again. I went back to go give a review to the lender but there was no option to, probably because this has happened to other people as well. Don’t ever buy from here, so unprofessional and untrustworthy just save the stress and book somewhere else.
I was a lender and had my dress stolen by the borrower.
I had taken out insurance through the VoLTE.
6 months later and constant emailing back and forth and they have not paid me out.
The insurance option is a lie.
They will not pay you be weary.
I have provided endless amounts of paperwork including statutory declarations through a JP and they have come back now and asked for a police report!!!
They can see the dress has not been returned.
They are buying time hoping you’d give up.
Going through fair trading
My daughter hired a dress for her year 12 formal. She posted it back the next day but is now being charged a hefty late fee because Australia Post was slow to register the dress after she posted it. Customer service has been terrible and no understanding or care shown. We will not be using Volte again. It has ended up costing more than buying a new dress.
They cancelled my daughters dress 24 hours before her Year 12 formal, no care just a quick sorry and an offer of 15% on our next order, as if we would ever order anything from them again. And after my queries to them, no follow up at all. To top it off the dress is still on the website, they need to get rid of this lender. Be very careful using this business, they are not as well run as it seems from the website.
