VSP uses to be good back in the days. Now they are just corrupted stealing from hard working folks. So I checked to make sure Costco is in the network. Yes they are: however, VSP only covers $70.00 fo... See more

incompetent website, and not much better on the phone

They sent a Vision Benefit Statement saying that none of a visit was covered. Going to their web site, was a never ending CAPTCHA loop that I gave up on after about the 10th one. (And yes, I get the CAPTCHA right on other web sites). When I called to complain, and find out if covered, they gave me the excuse that it was a duplicate claim. Which is different than what the clinic said. And when I tried to complain about the website, the online grievance form would not submit.

VSP does not allow online cancellation

VSP does not allow online cancellation. You must call and wait on hold to cancel. You can only make the call during a narrow 2 week window before you plan will automatically renew and charge you for another year. It is a deceptive business practice.

I am 81 year old man living in Hawaii

I am 81 year old man living in Hawaii. I am a retiree with a pension from the State of Hawaii. As a retiree, I have vision insurance from VIP. A couple months ago, I bought a new pair of glasses from Kaiser Health Plan. They processed a reimbursement from VSP, who has a vision plan covering Hawaii State and County workers and retirees. According to VSP, I qualified for a $132.00 reimbursement. I received that amount in a check which I decided to deposit with the Maui County Federal Credit Union. Two checks later, VSP checks have been rejected twice by MCFCU. After three phone calls to VSP, I am still without my reimbursement. My experience with VSP is very negative.

Sadly a very negative experience $FRAUD

Sadly a very negative experience as the coverage is spotty. the customer service deplorable. I tried to cancel last december. I was told I could not cancel unless I phoned within 30 days of my current contract expiring. I called 29 days before t was due to expire and while the cancellation was confirmed, I was required to pay for one more month as I had waited until 30 days prior to contract end. CHEATING....STEALING...weak

Worse vision insurance out there.

Worse vision insurance out there.

Unfortunately I'm stuck with this company due to it being provided via my work. They only allow $200 every other year for hardware...but they fail to tell you that you must use all of the funds at once...also pretty bad customer service.

This company is a scam

This company is a scam. They make it very hard to cancel your policy. After canceling my policy, I received an email to update my payment method for renewal. When I called, I was told my account would be open for another 7 months then it would cancel. Why would they be trying to renew my policy 7 months early? The employee was very rude.

This company is a scam

This company is a scam. You pay for literally nothing. Their website tracks you and adjusts pricing to make it so you have to pay for glasses regardless of the way you set it up. What is the point of insurance if you have to pay anyway? It provides zero coverage. Not worth it at all. Should be investigated by the FTC.

Scammers

Scammers, liars. Impossible to use website, keeps telling me I have no account. Also impossible to cancel service except for a small "window" at anniversary date, without paying for a whole year. Nowhere did I see this policy written. Then the customer service rep agreed to cancel service "immdiately." The follow-up notice said service would be canceled 8 months from now. Glasses plus monthly insurance cost more than a pair of glasses. Wish I could give negative stars.

I have spoken to 4 different representatives and been given 4 different answers as to why my Insurance still shows that I used my benefits when I did Not use them and I'm trying to get glasses. I am beyond frustrated and disgusted. The first representative told me it would take a few days to resolve, the second said it takes at least 30 days.... Not one person resolved the issue.... I would not recommend them !

VSP seems like a scam

VSP seems like a scam. I have them through my employer and that is the only reason I would ever engage with them. Their website is terrible, and every time I try to login it claims I never set up my account. I then have to change my password and I am sent an "authorization email" which takes me to a link that I then have to login again and enter the code from the email, which takes me to a page that tells me they have sent me an "authorization email" and I get stuck in the circle for about 5 attempts.
When I finally login (and I am not always successful at breaking the circle) I submitted a reimbursement claim, which they never paid, despite them claiming they did. A complete scam.

Bait and Switch, VSP owns everything

VSP owns all the companies they want you to deal with! You buy a plan from them in Washington state you can't have out of network and use cheaper sources for glasses like Costco since VSP wants you to use the company owned providers and up the costs. $400+ just to get an eye exam I can get for free from medicare. I'll be shopping for another policy come February and dropping them like a hot rock as well as filing complaints with the AG of Washington, BBB and the Washington Insurance Commissioner. I filed a complaint with their company and yet to hear back from them, talk about customer service and crap glasses!

DO NOT GET INSURANCE WITH THIS COMPANY

DO NOT GET INSURANCE WITH THIS COMPANY. They will lie and not give you your reimbursement. If they do it’s 1/3 of the amount. No where on there website does it give you the out of network reimbursement and you will be out of money. Lying by omission is still lying and that’s what they do!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

They will take your money - cover almost nothing - and make it virtually impossible to cancel your coverage, and when you do call customer service expect to be hung up on at least 3 times. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!!!!!!! I would give negative 10 stars if I could.

Not worth it

They made it difficult to submit a claim. Turns out they only cover up to $60 for an eye exam, with a $15 copay.

More appalling, I requested cancellation a few months into my 2nd year, because we don't need the coverage at all. $40/mo. to receive $45/yr. benefit makes zero sense.

My cancellation request was "denied", since I signed up to pay monthly, and we had one claim at the beginning of the year (and none the prior year at all). Apparently, we are roped into this insurance for another full year. This makes zero sense, and seems illegal. Although I do get not paying claims for people who sign up for one month to use the benefits, then cancel. We paid for a full year without a single claim. We've already paid over $500 for this policy, with a $45 reimbursement. I do not think this is legal in CA, to continue collecting premiums for a policy we won't use.

VSP does not disclose the…

VSP does not disclose the out-of-network benefits (or serious lack thereof) on their website. You have to call their customer service to request a copy. The Federal government should require transparency from VSP if they are allowed to continue to be a provider to Federal employees, active or retired. This could be particularly confusing for older customers. In addition, their telephone customer service requires multiple prompts of the same information (date of birth) and seems to go in circles when selecting various options. It feels like they try to make using customer service a miserable option to reduce calls.

They come across as if they couldn't care less about you or your concerns and pass you around like a hot potato to different departments. Totally inept! Horrid!

THIEVES!

This company is a rip off, I signed up for a year and they charged me for 3 years! When I found out, I cancelled it right away and requested a refund or to be able to use the benefits. They denied my request. Not only I waisted the money but also time on the phone as you get bumped from one csr to another. Even supervisors are not empowered enough to make decisions. Yet, they suggested to write an email for a last review from upper management, NOTHING. A waist of time and money... THIEVES!

Beware of VSP!!

Beware!! Don't use this company unless you are absolutely SURE you can find a frame that suits your face at an in-network company, and to clarify a VSP benefit!! Figure all of that out FIRST before you buy their insurance. Because I could not find a small frame that fits my face, I had to go out of network. My total cost was over $500, and VSP only reimbursed me for $120. However, the "insurance" cost me over $200! What a complete ripoff!!!!
