I would give 0 stars if that were an…

I would give 0 stars if that were an option.

I used Wheeling’s bike service for almost two years. I won’t comment on their service or maintenance, as most customers already know what to expect.

I cancelled my subscription in January and returned the bike on 27th February. During the return, one of their staff members thoroughly inspected the bike. I handed over everything including keys, locks, battery, charger, etc. and he confirmed everything was fine. No issues were mentioned at that time.

However, six days later, on 4th March, I received an invoice of 3,999 DKK without any explanation. When I asked for clarification, they claimed there was a “fracture on the battery upper cover” and charged me 3,199 DKK for the battery plus 799 DKK VAT.

This makes no sense. Their own employee checked the bike during the return and did not report any damage. Why raise this issue almost a week later?

I then argued that if I am being charged the full price of the battery including VAT, then logically I should become the owner of that battery. However, they refused, stating that I was only renting it meaning I must pay the full price, but they still keep the battery.

So to summarize:
• I rented the battery and paid for it for nearly two years
• I returned it in good condition (as confirmed at the time)
• Six days later, they charged me 3,999 DKK
• They keep both the battery and the money, claiming it will be “destroyed”

From speaking with other customers, I have heard similar concerns that batteries are not actually destroyed but repaired and reused.

This entire situation has caused unnecessary stress and pressure. I have decided to take legal action, and my lawyer will be contacting them.

To make matters worse, on 20th March- 16 days after the original invoice, I received a payment reminder with an additional 100 DKK fee, increasing the total to 4,099 DKK. At this rate, they may continue adding charges.

No matter the pressure, I will pursue this case legally.

I had a disappointing experience with Wheeling. The service quality was poor, and the staff behavior was not satisfactory. They are very quick to issue fines even for minor issues, which feels unreasonable. Overall, I would not recommend this company and suggest renting a bike from other providers instead.

I have used Wheeling’s service for a…

I have used Wheeling’s service for a long time and respected their terms. Recently, while working my night shift, my bike was handled roughly by drunk individuals, and the battery was dropped, causing a small cosmetic crack on the top plastic.
I returned the battery on the first working day. It works perfectly – charges, locks, and the backup functions normally. Even though this was a minor, cosmetic issue and the battery is fully functional, I may still be charged the full replacement cost (large amount). I even contacted Wheeling by email, politely requesting a reduction or waiver of the fee. They clearly informed me that nothing could be done.
The battery was covered by insurance, and while this particular damage might not fall under the insurance policy, Wheeling could have shown some consideration given that the battery is functional and only a small part was damaged. Charging the full replacement fee for such minor damage is extremely frustrating.
Based on this experience, I will no longer use Wheeling’s service and will advise my circle to avoid Wheeling.

Hi Md Jamil Ahmed,

Thank you for your review and for being a loyal Wheeling customer who respects our terms.

We completely understand that it can be frustrating to be charged for a battery that appears to still work, so we’d like to explain the situation.

Our batteries are lithium batteries. A crack in the battery casing allows water and air to enter the cells and electronics, creating a safety risk. This can lead to short-circuiting, fire, or in the worst case, an explosion. For this reason, a damaged battery cannot be used further and must never be given to another customer. It must be disposed of safely and correctly.

Even if the battery seems to work for now, it poses a risk, and over time it is very likely to fail. While the damage may look minor cosmetically, our documentation shows that water and air can enter, and so we must follow our procedure to ensure it is properly disposed of. This is about safety and responsibility – for you, us, and future customers – and we cannot make exceptions.

Your theft insurance covers theft only, not damage caused by handling or dropping the battery. Because this damage was caused by dropping and not normal wear and tear, it is correct that a replacement fee applies.

We hope you understand why we handle these situations this way. It is not a matter of unwillingness to be considerate, but a matter of safety, responsibility, and customer protection.

Kind regards,
Wheeling

Good support system so far

Had some problem with the first bike that was issued to me but upon pointing out the problems mechanic had a look and changed the bike immediately. So far experience is good with wheeling.

I have been a loyal customer of…

I have been a loyal customer of Wheeling for over 6 months, but I am extremely disappointed with their recent service. They fined me 1080 DKK without giving any valid reason or proper explanation. I followed all the rules and was shocked to receive such an unfair fine.

I tried to contact their support, but got no real help — just generic responses. This is not how a company should treat long-term customers.

I expected better. If you’re thinking of using Wheeling, be aware that they can fine you without warning or clear justification. Very poor customer service and no accountability.

Dear Md Salman,

Thank you for your review. We’re of course sorry to hear that your experience didn’t meet your expectations.

I’d like to give you a short summary of the case to avoid any misunderstandings. We do not send out invoices of DKK 1,080 without reason.

The original charges you received were:

DKK 300 for a damaged battery cover

DKK 179 for a damaged front carrier

Total: DKK 479

Your subscription covers all service and repairs related to normal use of the bike. This includes things like punctures, wear and tear, lights, general service, and similar issues caused by normal use, such as riding, parking, or walking the bike.

In this case, however, the damages were not caused by normal use. Our documentation clearly shows that the damages came from either a crash, a fall, or the battery being dropped. These types of incidents are not covered by the subscription. That’s why you received an invoice for the above mentioned items.

The total amount of DKK 1,080 is due to the original invoices not being paid, despite several reminders. When payment is not received, the case is automatically handed over to our external collection partner. If the invoice still remains unpaid, late fees are added. This is what caused the total to increase.

We hope this gives a clear explanation of why you received the invoice and what it covers.

Have a great day!

Best regards,
Wheeling

Extremely disappointing experience

Extremely disappointing experience – I do not recommend Wheeling. Would love to give 0 stars!

I subscribed to Wheeling late April, received my bike first May 6 and cancelled within the legal 14-day EU withdrawal period after receiving a bike that was simply not up to standard.

It arrived with a broken battery, a flat tire, and couldn’t even reach the advertised range or speed.
- I struggled to complete my 40 km daily commute, even on assist levels 3–5.

- The bike topped out at 16–17 km/h. Asking for a replacement of the battery via their extreme slow customer service via telefon lead to a discussion when they would come with a new battery and some passive aggressive SMS around the return of the battery which I did.

I returned the bike on May 16 and clearly cancelled in writing the day before. Despite this, Wheeling refused to accept the cancellation, citing hidden clauses in their terms that were never properly explained. They went on to charge me again after the bike was returned. You cannot remove your payment information on their website. I’ve since received automated payment reminders and threats of debt collection (inkasso) – even though they have the bike and I paid for the entire time I had it. I payed now 587 DKK for April when I returned the bike, for May a whooping 868 DKK because of them threatening me with Inkasso and another 668 DKK for June. For a broken bike I had for 11 days!

Customer service has been slow, dismissive, and unhelpful, and in the end simply not replying. They are ignoring both legal rights and common sense. It’s honestly shocking how poorly this has been handled.

I’ve now filed complaints with the Danish Consumer Complaints Board and European Consumer Centre.

⚠️ My advice: Avoid this company. There are better and more honest alternatives. Happy to have switched to Swapfiets!

Dear M.K.,

Thank you for your review. We are sorry to hear that your experience didn’t live up to your expectations.

We have spent a lot of time reviewing your case thoroughly, as we always strive to ensure that things are handled fairly for both our customers and for us as a company. We would therefore like to summarise the situation:

You are, of course, entitled to a 14-day right of withdrawal, exactly as it is with any consumer purchase. That applies with us as well. It is an important right we fully respect.

However, as with other products or services, the right of withdrawal no longer applies once the item has been put into use. It is similar to buying a pair of shoes. If you wear them daily for 10 days, you can not return them under the right of withdrawal. But if they remain unused, the right applies.

In your case, as you mention yourself, you did notify us within the 14-day period, which is absolutely fine. However, you also stated that you used the bike for daily transportion, and additionally made use of the included service in your subscription, when we send out a technician to your home to replace the battery. This means, that the service has been used, both in terms of the bike itself and the included service, which voids the right of withdrawal.

If you had reported the issue, refrained from using the bike, and returned it immediately, the situation would have been different. But in this case, the product and service were clearly in use.

We absolutely understand that it is frustrating when expectations and experience do not align. However, we must follow both the consumer laws and our terms and conditions, since they are in place to protect both you as the customer and us as a business. We do not want to decide when exceptions should be made, which is why we stick to the terms consistently.

We hope this explanation brings more clarity to the situation.

Wishing you a pleasant summer.

Best regards,
Wheeling

Poor condition bicycle, unable to deliver requested model

Several days after confirming my order, I was contacted by a Wheeling representative to inform me that the bicycle I requested was not available after all and if I wanted to rent one of their other models, which was priced the same. I agreed to this and picked up the bicycle the next day. As I was riding home I thought what a pleasant ride, nice suspension. Then I decided to check the tire pressure. It was below 30 psi, and the tire says it must be between 43 and 72 psi, no wonder it felt like nice suspension, the tire was almost out of air.
A week after I picked up the bicycle, I notice the rear tire is completely flat. The local bicycle mechanic tells me the bicycle tube in the rear tire was tender and needs to be replaced. Furthermore he tells me the chain and chain guard are worn and need replacing soon.

I am disappointed by the condition of the bicycle, and that they could not even be bothered to check the tire pressure before renting it to me.

Insufficient/very bad customer service

During my rent of 3 months it happend twice that batteries of lights of my e-bike ran out of batterie (I never understood why the company did not chose light connected to a dynamo). On both incidents it took wheeling 4-7 days to respond via e-mail to my request. The service number was never available. Fixing took some additional days. And I could not use the bike during these days. No compensation was offered for those days. Not a good experience. Therefore I can definately not recommend wheeling.
