[Update: Whisky Auctioneer has since worked with me to reach a resolution. While we were unable to reach 100% agreement, they have agreed to take steps to address the situation. I am satisfied with the path forward given both parties made compromises. I appreciate them engaging further after escalation. The team I spoke with were polite and professional. We have a path forward but still needs to be executed. I will be more than happy to update this review again once the process is fully completed.]
Bought a Hibiki 17 Phoenix through Whisky Auctioneer and was very disappointed.
The bottle arrived with a noticeably low fill level that was not clearly represented in the listing photos. While they claim it was “visible,” in reality the angle of the images made it very difficult to accurately assess — I only realized how low it was once I had the bottle in hand.
I raised this with them, but they refused any resolution and relied on “sold as seen.” What’s frustrating is that even their own team initially said the fill level appeared consistent with other bottles, which shows how unclear the photos actually were.
At this price point, I would expect something as important as fill level to be clearly shown.
They claim to assess fill level of bottles in their policy but after beeing handed around to 6 different members of their team in email correspondance with different answers every single time, it became clear theri team had no idea. Would strongly advise against purchasing any bottles of significant value from them. They do not back their own quality metrics and the responses I received from customer service validates that. From the initial registration until I received my whiskey bottles, it was easy and without surprise. The registration process was handled electronically and by a courtesy phone call. The bidding was easy enough to understand. The final pricing was clear, even with the tarriffs added on (I am based out of the US). When my bottles arrived a week or so after the auction, they were exactly as advertised. Very pleased overall.

Quick, convenient and kind.
I can find bottles I want to get easily.
I've been using several whisky auction sites but Auctioneer is the best so far.
I get mine 2 days safely after payment from overseas.

Shipping prices have gotten stupidly expensive. Communication is atrocious. Multiple requests to ship bottles and there is not invoice or record of what is shipped and what isn’t.

A pitty. A fee bottels for less than £100, Total cost at the end more £ 160. More than 60 % costs.

Delivery is fast, the website is easy to navigate and you get a fair chance of winning a few bottles at a reasonable price. Just remember to check the add ons, it could mean buying a bottle for more than it’s worth.

You have added extra fees without noticed any of it. Info is just added to your pages
You added suddenly excise fee on latest order and it was not done before.

Handling fee for Europe lots
Lots that are marked as European lots give you the impression that only an auction fee is added to the hammer price. It is a kind of disappointing that you have to pay an extra handling fee which comes unexpectedly high.
Furthermore, you offer an optional loss and damage insurance. However, all packages with a value below 500 ,- Euro are already insured by carriers like DHL.
Two facts that give me the impression that you want to make unnecessary extra money. This is not customer friendly and this is why I look at Whiskyauctioneer.com only as a second choice.

I can not understand, why is a Bid only closed first, when all the Bids are closed. They supposed to be separate: if ther is no bid (after closing) in 2-5 minutes on THAT Lot, it should be ended, independent from the others…

My experience navigating the auction and website was good, but unfortunately the bottle was not packed in a way that held the cork in place and a good 2 ounces of my precious 1969 Oban leaked out the top before arriving at my door.

Its the best auction for me. I have try many of them and for me is the best one
