Scammer and pathological liar!

I met George Moore one Sunday in June 2025 at his workshop near Duxford. Very pleasant, credible guy, full of enthusiasm for his craft.

I ordered 2 tables from him, a dining table and matching console. On 22nd June 2025 I paid over £4000 to him via Monzo using my Amex card.
His quoted time for delivery was “around 10 weeks”.

On 12th July I contacted him to see how things were coming along as I’d heard nothing, then again on 28th July. He replied saying his whole family had Norovirus. Still no mention of my tables. I contacted him again on 16th August asking for an update & photos. No reply. I contacted him again on 23rd August, no reply. On 30th August I contacted him yet again saying please phone me as I’ve just read some horrific Trustpilot reviews about you. That’s when I should have gone with my gut and asked for a refund. He phoned & said it was a single disgruntled customer who had got their whole family to write dreadful reviews. Stupidly I believed him.

I contacted him again on 3rd Sept as still no update or photos. He replied saying his daughter’s nursery wasn’t back yet after the summer holidays and his child minder had a sickness bug so he wasn’t in work. At this point I was really beginning to get concerned about this guy. No update on my tables but he promised photographs the next day. Nothing arrived. What a surprise! Just a load of excuses about the weather reacting with the resin. I asked for a genuine timeframe for delivery. He told me they’d be ready at the end of the month.

We went away on holiday so delivery was agreed for Saturday 4th Oct. 15 weeks since paying in full incidentally.
I contacted him on 2nd Oct to check delivery to be told he was “getting there” but the wood was intricate & taking longer so fill so it would be another 10 days.

On 13th Oct I contacted him to ask for the delivery day to be told his delivery driver was at a hospital appointment & he was waiting for him to confirm. I heard nothing so left a panicked voicemail on 15th Oct. A message back from him said he had Covid. We’re at 17 weeks now!

A new date of Sunday 26th Oct was set for delivery. 18 weeks. On 25th Oct I get a message & a photo saying the table was stuck in its mold & would be another few days. On 28th Oct I get a message saying he’s booking delivery in the morning. Hallelujah! He then confirmed on 30th Oct that delivery would be Saturday 8th Nov, mid morning. I took an enormous sigh of relief.

On 6th Nov I get a message from him saying “all booked for Sat 8th”. Fantastic I thought.
On 7th Nov I get a message saying his daughter has been unwell for 4 days so he’s not been in work. Eh?? Bizzare when he had confirmed delivery just the day before. He added that he’d spent all night in A&E with his son who had injured himself playing football and that he was on crutches now. Oh and the tables required a little more polishing in order to be perfect. The day before delivery!! And 20 weeks since paying in full. I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.

I am now at the end of the road with George Moore of Wilbraham Wood Design. I have been incredibly patient and understanding but there’s a point where you just feel like a complete mug. Today we raised an investigation with Amex and I filled out the required forms for him to be reported to Trading Standards.

George is a scammer and pathological liar.

11th Nov. 2025 - Amex refunded all our money within 24 hours. No quibble. We suspect he’s on a credit card company black list. I have a case number from Citizen Advice with the hope that my case will be passed on to Trading Standards. George has now blocked me on Facebook.
Like others I wholeheartedly suspect that his 5* reviews are being written by the man himself.

DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES ENTER INTO BUSINESS WITH THIS GUY!!

DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS COMPANY

DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS COMPANY
Started off great lots of communication and info on the table and discussions on size and colours etc. Once payment was made it all went downhill.
George is Pathological liar excuse after excuse as to why we haven’t had table. Which was ordered for delivery end of sept.
Photos promised nothing received.
He said he was just making finishing touches to the table and would send photos. We never ever saw any proof of this. Excuse after excuse to the point I felt embarrassed for him.
I got the impression he forgot what he told us each time we messaged for an update.
He’s had flu then a few weeks later he had Covid.
Then his staff member was off so he couldn’t move table without him.
He was then whisked away on a little family holiday.
Every time we messaged there was a different excuse.
George is not to be trusted and very unprofessional.
Save yourself time and stress and use someone else.

We ordered a table in September 2024…

We ordered a table in September 2024 for delivery before Christmas 2024. It arrived finally in June 2025, however was made the wrong size. Promise number 2,050, George would make another table and deliver it in 4 weeks. Well guess what, no correct size table and it is over 4 weeks since his Whatts app message.

Before I go on, it is very interesting that George is concerned over the negative feedback (his words) on this site and he had day after day 14 5star reviews most from people who have never written a review in April, looks a little 'odd' to me with all the negatives, looks like he is adding reviews to boost his rate. Just my opinion.

We where promised the table, promised pictures, we where let down time and time again, not until I threatened legal action did we start getting movement. If you can think of a reason why a promise was not met, we heard it from George. From family in hospital to he has spoken to his accountant, the guy that works with him is not around and so he cant move the wood. Sick children (plausible), poor weather, Transport let him, Bank holidays, holidays, you name it we have it.

The sad thing is the table (Although smaller than we wanted) is actually very nice! Dealing with George was like dealing with a pathological liar./ If you can deal with that good luck BUT be warned you will spend a long time chasing!

Stay well clear.

Wasn't going to bother with a review as it just isn't what I usually do, but I thought I'd check if he is still messing with people's money and looks like he is. Same as many ordered a table for delivery before Christmas we worked hard to get our extension finished for Christmas but trusting goerge was a big mistake. False promises time and time again excuse after excuse which by the looks of it was all lies. Ordered beginning of November and still no table by 1st April. Once we wanted a refund it was still excuse after excuse. Unfortunately for him he choose the wrong family to scam. After a visit to his home (he wasn't in, but my husband passes weekly and would have been sat there waiting if by the following week we hadn't received all our refund. We finally got our refund little bit over a few days but I don't think we would have got it without turning up at his door. He acts like the nice guy but it's got to be all an act. Genuine trustworthy and anyone in the right mind wouldn't think it was acceptable to take hard working people's money and not supply a product. I totally understand some things happen but not time and time again. Don't be fooled like the rest of us. Find a Genuine company and don't let this guy take anyone else's money.

AVOID AVOID AVOID!!!

Paid full amount upfront March 2025 for a resin Oak dining table.
To start with communication was good, George even called on the phone when I enquired, although I ignored a few red flags, such as excuses of no pictures of tables as George’s phone has been stolen.
Also George mentioned paying some on a credit card to avoid costs to himself, a 3% discount on the table and I would be fully protected under the Section 75 act for up to £30,000, which is correct - but he said with only a £1 deposit on a CC which is incorrect (something I see he has wrongly advised other reviewers on here) - it has to be £100, which I corrected him on, and he was happy to have £100 on a CC and the remainding £2810 via bank transfer.
That’s when the communication started to decrease. I waited and waited on resin samples, after contacting George several times, with excuses that he’d sent some out already, they should be with me, he will make some more, he was away a couple of days, promising to be more proactive going forward, then being ignored and I asked for a refund, George said he had issues with samples not arriving and Jiffy bags being ripped, more waiting and messages being ignored, all whilst posting and advertising on Facebook for sales etc, I posted on his Facebook page highlighting the fact that he’s ignoring fully paid customers and he deleted the comment, again I asked for a refund, then when I say I’ll apply for a refund through my bank and leave an honest review on turstpilot he suddenly responds, apologies, saying he will give me a full refund but give him a chance, he’s had an awful few months personally, promising to get my table to me within 2 weeks when it had been more than 10 wks with no resin samples, he still replies with apologies and false promises.
End of May I finally get 2 small resin samples - which are tbh rubbish. I chose just to have a black resin as I wanted to get it over and one with, and again communication stops.
I message on fb messenger and last communication was George saying his daughter was ill in hospital.
Quite frankly we had enough of no communication, excuses, lies and applied through our bank to instigate a refund under section 75.
Finally End of August 2025 we received our full refund after providing all the proof of messages and screenshots of continual let down and failings of Wilbraham Wood Design.
Please heed other similar customer experiences, I do not believe this is an honest business, do not waste your time, money and keep giving chances like I did

Avoid avoid avoid.

Avoid avoid avoid.

Order put in End of October for a large dining table - full payment. pre Christmas delivery agreed. George was very pushy in making contact when trying to make the sale but as soon as he received the money that’s where his communication changed.

No regular communication despite promised weekly updates.

Delays with delivery date from pre Christmas, to post Christmas to new year. Excuses similar to other customers - health/ bad weather/family crisis the list was endless.

I asked for a refund. Had to chase repeatedly for a refund. He claimed to have actioned it. Contacted multiple times for a refund. More excuses and lies. Had to go through the credit card company to be refunded and took months. Even then he tried to dispute a chargeback!!!

I urge anyone who considers using this company to think twice. Avoid at all costs. Complete scam.

Terrible experience dealing with Wilbraham Wood Design

This was originally posted on Facebook and then reviews were turned off so it could no longer be seen.
Having read recent reviews I have decided to post it here. It was a couple of years ago but it's clear to see the company hasn't learnt anything or changed their ways.

We ordered a coffee table in mid September and was told there was a
4-6 week lead time. We were understanding when he had an accident and his tools were stolen but we had to continually chase for updates, were given false promises and strung along. We eventually asked for a refund at the end of January and even then it was over 2 weeks before we received it in mid February. Again we had to continually chase this daily. We don't believe the table was ever made as we were never sent the photos that were both requested and promised. So 5 months later we were still without the promised coffee table and very disappointed and frustrated with the whole experience. Whilst George was a friendly and nice guy in the whole protacted process, his communication and customer service was extremely poor and lacking. In summary, if you don't mind not receiving a bespoke item after months of delays and many false promises then this is the business for you.

I'll also add George must be the unluckiest guy going as he had a string of excuses for why our table was delayed and it looks like he has had more bad luck if AndyB's review is anything to go by, either that or he is an out-and-out lier. I strongly suspect it's the latter.

A Con Man in Carpenter's Clothing

Our experience mirrors that of all the negative reviews, particularly Ian Smith's. This is exactly what happened to us.

It starts with George, the owner of Wilbraham Wood Design, being super nice. He can't do enough for you. There are video calls, tours of the workshop, and all the promises of a grand design.

Until you pay him. Then the issues start.

No pictures. Ignored requests for updates. Then vague comments and excuses galore. Posted samples that don't arrive, three times. When enough was enough, we asked for a refund, which he agreed to.

On five separate occasions, we've been guaranteed our refund and received nothing.

We had to get a Trading Standards agent to review our case. This is no easy feat. You can't directly contact Trading Standards. You have to jump through hoops to prove that the company has breached the law. They have, on more than one occasion, particularly the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

We were one step away from taking this company to court with Trading Standards. Luckily, George had insisted we pay a portion of our money by credit card, and we were able to recover the full amount through the Consumer Credit Act. Looking back, this insistence on using a credit card likely shows his intentions were never to build our project. This was echoed by Trading Standards.

If you have an experience like ours, please reach out to Citizens Advice and try to get them to open a case with Trading Standards. Our agent was very keen to hear other stories. Hopefully, this will lead to a full investigation into their practices.

Please avoid this company like the plague. When they offer you discounts straight away, insist you pay by card, and demand full payment upfront, just walk away. Find an honest tradesman, pay a little bit more, and don't go through the five months of hell we did.

Lastly, I wouldn't trust any of these five-star reviews. They all seem to be a similar length, saying the same positive things, using the same kind of language.

Hugely Disappointing

I talked to George late last year and he was very pleasant, chatty and had some good ideas for a table. In February, I placed an order and paid in full although we had not made a final decision on the type of wood - that awaited some photos. Then the problems started.
Over 12 weeks later, I still hadn't received any photos of the type of wood despite asking numerous times. I did receive countless excuses as to why this had not happened and countless broken promises to send this- a single photo was all that was needed. Eventually, I cancelled the order and now I have the problem of getting my money back. George paid me £200 but still owes a lot more. Again, endless broken promises that he will deal with the repayment and countless excuses. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS PERSON. Small claims court process now being completed.

Be very cautious and do not pay all upfront

So we ordered a Table in January, went to see George in his workshop thought yes this seems all ok. as it was bespoke was told needed all funds upfront. paid our monies for table. communication skills from George are no good and we were told numerous untruths shall we say. So beginning July I got so fed that after going to see him twice more decided enough is enough and said I was going to small claims court and Trading standards. This prompted a message to say yes I will have a full refunded like I asked for. Still nothing came even after false promises. so I contacted Nationwide and after 5 days they said we can have the refund that they claiming from his bank as it is Fraud. False promises of goods and not delivered. so I would advise anyone to be very cautious I have spoken to others and they have not got their money back but others have got a table months later. George is a nice person but his admin skills are not very good and I think he had taken on too much and kept taking on jobs. If you are willing to wait then go ahead. I am now very cautious with anything large purchases.

Clear craftsman, but no table and no refund

We ordered a ten-seater table from George in January for delivery in April. You don’t mind small delays, but here we are in mid-July.

We paid £1 by credit card and £2327 by Monzo on 9 January.

The excuses we received mainly related to difficulties shipping to Northern Ireland (George only being able to ship on a Thursday for an unexplained reason) but George also listed a catalogue of family emergencies such as broken legs, appendicitis, respiratory illness, and a car crash with promises each time the table would definitely arrive the following week.

Finally, extremely disappointed, we asked for a refund on 18 June, and gave him our bank details.

George did not answer phone calls when he recognised our phone numbers, and was slow to respond to messages. He has claimed that a refund is pending from his bank account, but the bottom line is he owes us £2,328 and he hasn’t paid it.

We like to think the best of people, but we have had so many excuses we don’t know what’s true and what’s just an excuse. Our only option is to call our solicitor.

Unfortunately you ordered an old product (2 serving boards) that when we got it out of storage we realised was not up to our high standards as we have moved away from smaller gift items and now concentrate on larger bespoke furniture. We then made you new ones, we are also removing all old products from the website as part of the revamp. Apologies again
