My kids enjoy going to school for the first time in their lives. Homework isn't a problem and they are starting to love reading.

Run far away from this school!!!!!

My kids have started at Willow Charter Academy from day one. I love my kids going here at first. The first year my son could not keep a steady teacher in his 5th grade class. The student body seems to be too rowdy for just one teacher to teach the classroom and be successful. I had no problems with my daughter class. This school year 2015-2016 my daughter class can't seem to have a steady teacher. The math teacher sends my daughter home with homework that was not even taught in class, which leaves my husband and I teaching, and try to make sure we are teaching her right so that she understands. We had high expectations for Willow Charter Academy, We were let down very quickly! We just make sure that we are involved with the teacher of our kids to make sure that they are not getting left behind in anything.

I transferred my daughter from public school to this charter school because I want to give her the best education experience possible. Initial reception was great and they made me feel excited about becoming a part of the school. The main issue I had was communication. I emailed the teacher and also sent her a message on Dojo, both were never answered. My child had homework daily, none received marks so that I knew it was checked by the teacher. The homework was a bit simple for my 7 year old who is rather advanced. Bottom line was - she was not challenged enough and there was zero communication from the teacher except for behavior on Dojo. Office staff is inexperienced and unprofessional. Exterior doors are locked for safety reasons, but parents wait outside until they are seen and let in. I've waited in excess of 5 minutes each time. Upon entering the lobby, doors are also locked. At the time of me withdrawing my daughter from school, I literally stood in the lobby for 20 minutes waiting on the receptionist to address me. She finally let me in to have a seat and the admin who was going to assist me sat on the phone for 10 minutes without acknowledging I was there. When the receptionist told her again I was waiting, she continued to ignore me and finally just handed me a paper to sign. She did not ask why I was withdrawing my child or if I needed anything else from the school. Totally unacceptable, and further solidified my decision. Hopefully after some time, this will all improve.

Best school for my child hands down

My experience is that almost everyone know my kids by name they been attending since the door open....

Willow Charter Academy is one of a kind. Their staff really care for my child's well being and also challenges her in ways that keep her on top of her studies. They want my child to go all the way to the top and that's why I put my trust in them. My child and I are confident that she will continuously reach for all of her goals and achieve alll of her dreams.

My child is doing very well at the school and he is learning as he should at his grade level.

He has experienced physical altercations at the school on multiple occasions having trouble with the same kids. He's had racially discriminatory and abusive statements made to him by other students ("All white kids are gay" being probably the worst), and the students are seeing no repercussions for their behavior.

I get it, new charter school in Lafayette can't have that kind of negative publicity, but I think the school should focus on providing a more positive learning experience for all kids by removing or at the very least hold accountable problem children. The only reason I haven't brought this up with the school directly, this year anyway, is because my son is no longer getting into trouble for defending himself like he was last year.

I really don't have anything bad to say my children and I love Willow Charter. This is their second year enrolled and we plan to make it a 3rd year.
