AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

Update to my previous post. It’s now 15th December and still no response from "Joy" apart from completely useless automated AI messages. American Express are now disputing the hotel charge in my behalf. Joy are utterly shambolic. Avoid at all costs.

Joy is a scam

Booked a hotel through Joy, arrived, and the hotel couldn’t check me in because Joy’s payment card was declined. No room. I had to book another one on the spot.
When I emailed Joy, they kept stalling and tried to make the problem mine by asking for receipts and extra proof, even though the hotel had already confirmed their card was rejected. It was clear they had no intention of refunding me and were just dragging things out. Reading other reviews, this seems to be their standard tactic.
I eventually had to get my bank to refund me because Joy wouldn’t take responsibility. Avoid their hotel booking feature unless you want stress and extra costs.

RUN!!!

Worst decision I made during wedding planning was choosing Joy. As a bride speaking to other brides, my experience with their website was incredibly stressful. Many of the items on my registry went out of stock, and at least four orders that guests had already purchased went missing. It was absolutely horrible to deal with and added so much unnecessary stress. I truly regret using Joy and wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

Booked hotel was closed when we arrived

I would not recommend booking accommodation through Joy
In August we booked a hotel for a wedding in October. When we arrived at the hotel after flying for 7 hours there was a notice on the door saying it was closed.
To raise this with Joy we replied to the booking confirmation email but this was sent to Nuitee who sent the following unhelpful reply telling us what we already knew
"We regret to inform you that due to the permanent closure of the original hotel it is unfortunately not possible to confirm your reservation there."
We contacted the chain that owns the hotel and they confirmed that the booking had been made through Expedia and that Expedia had been informed of the closure some time before. It appears that booking through Joy creates a long chain which can easily be broken

Joy should change their name to miserable con artists

DO NOT USE JOY for your wedding, and definitely don't use it as a wedding guest. They are a horrible company that works like a scam. On September 19, 2025 I went on the Joy website to view the information for a wedding my husband and I were invited to in October. They didn't have a room block at any hotel, but they suggested a few, so I clicked on the link for one of them and booked a reservation, not knowing that I was NOT actually on the hotel's website; it was never disclosed that I was booking through a third party, which is more like a 4th party because Joy uses another travel agency in Ireland called Nuitee. Again, NONE of this was disclosed when I booked, and I never got an email confirmation which they likely did on purpose because they charged me $469.98 for 2 nights at the hotel, and when I checked out of the hotel on 10/26/25, the price shown on my receipt was nearly $132 less than what Joy charged on my credit card. 20 emails later with Joy support, as well as a dispute with my credit card company, Capital One, and I'm not getting my money back, apparently because I didn't provide enough evidence since I didn't have the confirmation of the booking (because Joy never sent it). I'm just as disgusted with Capital One as I am with Joy because I've been their customer for decades and this is the service they provide? Disgusting. I asked Capital One 3 times to explain why it wasn't enough for me to provide them with the hotel receipt with the actual charge of the room. That should have been enough. "Joy" is a despicable company and if you've been invited to a wedding through them, DON'T CLICK ON OR BOOK ANYTHING USING THEIR SITE. And if you're a couple planning your wedding, unless you want your guests to be scammed out of their money, avoid "Joy" at all costs. It makes me wonder if the couple ever received the gift I ordered through their registry.

FRAUDULENT COMPANY-BEWARE!

They charged me twice, never sent a proper response, and there’s no way to reach a real person no phone number, no accountability, nothing.

They’ll keep you going in circles with fake “support” emails while your money is gone. This isn’t a real business, it’s a fraud. Save yourself the stress and your money. Avoid Joy.com completely!

Disgraceful company. AVOID!!!

Had to book a hotel for a wedding via this company, due to the wedding party having block booked for guests. Firstly, more expensive than booking direct, but that's nothing compared to my main complaint.
I Booked 2 rooms, 4 months in advance. Paid the full amount in one transaction. Confirmation and invoice received, job done!
When we arrived at the hotel in Bristol, we were told payment for just one room had been received. We produced the invoice and proof of payment, but the hotel receptionist said they couldn't do anything about it, they only had one room paid for. We were left with no choice but to pay again for one room.

6th October, I contacted Joy/Nuitee, via email, explained what had happen and provided all necessary info. A travel consultant, Noura, said they would investigate. Several emails later......
8th October, they agreed to a refund. Will take 5-10 days.
11 days later, no refund. I sent another email.

22nd october, "specialised team" will ensure it's completed as soon as possible.
23rd October, it's being processed, and should reflect in my account within the next few business days.
30th October, apologies, management will review my refund status urgently and keep me informed.
No contact since.
At first, I did not want to contact our bank as I suspected they would, with the evidence provided, just retrieve the money from the hotel, whereas, it was Nuitee at fault. I did inform the bank as the return window would have closed. As I suspected, they took the money from the hotel.
In my opinion, all a bit fishy. They took one payment of £435.28, only pay £195.00 to the hotel, probably knowing full well, any bank would only be able to retrieve the second payment.
I have my money back, no thanks to Nuitee/Joy/Noura, who have have just blatantly lied!
I will be informing all relevant governing bodies.

Totally ruinned my brothers wedding for so many of us

Booked at my brothers wedding venu of his choice (a hotel) through these guys but although they confiemd the booking they placed the order as room only, pay on arrival - they didn't then pay the hotel... totally ruinned the whole event for us and the hotel manager spent literally the whole day hastling us for payment even though we'd paid online. (Dont worry thw hotel is getting a bad review too!) A quick call to the customer service resolved it, but finding their number, getting through and making good headway on this issue took all day and ruinned the event for so many guests who had the same problem. Not a good experiance. Avoid at all cost.

Horrendous experience with this company. Booked a hotel for a wedding through their website, arrived at the hotel and they don’t have my reservation. Joy had taken my money and not actually booked my hotel!

Had to pay for another room and Joy now unresponsive to requests for a refund. Terrible company.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! My sister booked 3 nights for my nephews wedding and could not make it for health reasons. Since the reservation is non-refundable, We contacted them to say we wanted to transfer her room over to my son but only needed 2 nights and not 3 and already paid her for all 3 nights. We have the emails proving that we requested that and they confirmed it but they only booked my son for 1 night forcing us to have to pay for the 2nd night. Since we used Joy, the hotel couldn't assist us and Joy has refused to fund us for the single night we had to pay for even though we have email confirmations from them stating we needed the 2 nights only to discover when we checked in they reserved us the one night only. DO NOT USE JOY! They only care about taking your money and have THE WORST customer service.

"Worldwide Shipping" is a LIE

DO not use this website as they lie in their advertising. We spent weeks getting a card and website set up, and upon checkout they say they cannot delivery the cards to Europe. They even let you add European countries to the guest list, but you cannot even place an order from here.

Absolute waste of time.
Terrible company.
Do not use them. There are better alternatives.

No Joy "WithJoy"

Don't go near this mob. Tried to making a booking from the link provided. What a disaster. My card was declined. Stupidly tried another card. Declined! But the transactions actually went through. One bank told me this lot were bad and cancelled the card and transaction. The other is investigating it. I rang the hotel directly and booked and it was cheaper!!!

I had an amazing experience using the site. It was easy to build our wedding website and manage our RSVPs. We used Honeyfund instead of a traditional registry, and I appreciated the seamless integration. I also printed thank you cards through Joy, which was super easy to do.

Misleading Pricing & Scam-Like Practices

I had a very negative experience with Joy and strongly caution couples against using it. Beyond the bugs and poor customer support, the biggest red flag is how Joy handles pricing in their registry.

Joy displays items at inflated MSRP pricing instead of the actual retailer’s sale or current price. This means your friends and family could be charged hundreds more than they would if they purchased directly from the retailer. In one case, a guest of mine was overcharged by $800+ compared to the retailer’s website.

To me, this feels incredibly misleading and borderline scammy. Weddings are expensive enough — the last thing guests should worry about is being taken advantage of when they’re trying to give a gift.

Combine that with unreliable features and unhelpful customer service, and I can’t recommend Joy to anyone. There are far more transparent and trustworthy wedding platforms available. Save yourself and your guests the headache.

Booking accommodation through WithJoy / Nuitee

I booked a hotel through WithJoy but had to cancel, which meant I was due a refund. Instead, I was bounced back and forth between WithJoy and their agent Nuitee, each referring me to the other. Neither seemed able to communicate with each other, and despite all this, I still haven’t received my refund. Awful customer service. Do not book a hotel through WithJoy or Nuitee.

Terrible customer service

I made a hotel reservation on the With Joy website for a wedding we were attending in Spokane on Sept. 13. The week of the wedding my wife tested positive for Covid, and we had to cancel. When I called the Davenport Hotel in Spokane to cancel the reservation and get a refund they told me I had to call the company I had made the reservation through. When I contacted With Joy, they told me I had to contact Expedia, a company I did not know was involved in my travel plans. Expedia told me they had to get approval from Davenport Hotel in Spokane. In the end, each of the companies was able to point the finger at the others. Micaela at With Joy was not helpful.

Genuinely terrible website

Genuinely terrible website.

Unintuitive, sometimes saves things and sometimes doesn't (???). It had an entire 'moments' page that we didn't know about until the website had gone live which had any photo we had ever uploaded to the site on it.

You can't even use the data collected in the RSVP to send text message reminders, it's email only and that is not clear until well down the line.

Terrible company - stay clear

Disgusting service and email correspondence. We had to cancel a hotel booking to a wedding due to my partner being rushed to hospital for emergency surgery. The hotel said they would happily refund or move the dates. However, Joy or Nuitee were rude, slow, unresponsive. My partner nearly died all i got was possibly the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I would warn against using them for a wedding or any planning.
