Be very, very careful before you sign

Don’t be baffled by all the selling pitch and videos. We were sold a “professionally trained” dog who was completely uncontrollable on the lead, on his hind legs pulling at every other dog or cat he saw, growled at me for holding his collar in order to gain control when he was lunging at another dog. He jumped up repeatedly at our young children, chased our cat, wasn’t well mannered or polite, didn’t wait at thresholds and not at all happy in his crate.

I’ve had dogs half my life and have looked after numerous other dogs - Freddie was the most poorly trained and uncontrollable dog I’ve ever experienced. I understood there would be an adjustment period but he was not safe to have in our home with young children.

All the things he was sold as turned out to be a complete lie. We needed the dog out of our house immediately for our children’s safety so requested collection from Woodland Labrador Academy.

Sadly, I didn’t listen to the doubts that were creeping in during the handover process about his temperament or training standards and I signed the non refundable contract which has now left me £4,500 out of pocket.

Woodland Labrador Academy is not acknowledging the sub par training, the growling or anything else and simply says he won’t be refunding me because I signed the contract. No accountability, no apology just a refusal to refund because we signed a contract.

I thought maybe we were just unlucky but I can now see another unhappy customer has taken him to court for the dog being unfit for purpose and using an unfair no-refund contract and won.

I’m left with no option but to take him to court to get my money back.

The owner of Woodland Labrador Academy has now set up another company offering exactly the same thing - so watch Trained Labs Ltd too!

Court ruled in my favour - dog unfit for purpose.

I bought a dog named Victor from Woodland Labrador Academy. I was explicitly told he was mentally sound, safe in all areas, and ready to go into assistance training. Instead, he arrived highly reactive, unmanageable, and unsafe for public work. Because the owner refused a to take victor back, we had to keep him for eight months while waiting for the court trial, and he eventually had to go into foster care.

I took the business to court (Salisbury Law Courts, Claim: 1769710840139474). The Judge ruled entirely in my favour, stating the "no refunds" clause was an unfair contract term and the dog was unfit for purpose. I got my money back.

Advice: Do not trust the sales pitch and videos that are curated for you. Always insist on walking any dog yourself in a variety of busy public environments and around other animals before buying.
