The site is very well organized and offers the possibility to find the workawayers that really fit in our place and way of living. Did work out very well for us.

We’ve now hosted three Workaway experiences. The last two have been excellent, two lovely couples who stayed in our home in NSW in exchange for gardening help.

For us, it’s been far more than practical support. There’s been a genuine cultural exchange, sharing meals, cooking for each other, long conversations about politics and different world views. It’s been everything we hoped it would be when we joined.

We don’t pay as hosts, the exchange is accommodation and food in return for agreed hours of help, so clarity is essential. We always arrange a FaceTime call before committing so everyone can get a feel for each other and make sure it’s a good match. I’d strongly recommend this. Being clear about house rules, what’s included, what work is expected, how many hours, whether guests get days off, all of that avoids misunderstandings later.

Because we are sharing our actual living space rather than a separate guesthouse, it’s important to us that guests are tidy and respectful of shared areas. When you find the right fit, it works beautifully.

Overall, our experience has been positive and rewarding. We are definitely continuing to host and would recommend Workaway to others, just go in with clear communication and realistic expectations.

Just renewed my membership for a fourth year, been using Workaway to live and travel through South America since 2022.
I have met some amazing people, had many amazing experiences, gotten cultural immersion, language immersion, and been able to travel in ways that are only available through volunteering and service work.

The workaway experience is framed by the portal as a social experience and adventure in a very nice way with meaningful tools and categories and helpful evaluation forms that makes sense and make it possible to get good matches

Workaway is a nice platform with a very good concept. It is built on loyality and trust. Communication works well, I had until now only the best experiences... highly recommended!

Getting to know people, mutual learning, alternative living

I really enjoy meeting people from different countries and understanding some of their culture. It is an absolute bonus that you have some willing helpers to tackle some jobs around the property. Workaway is an easy platform to use with helpful profiles.

As a platform for work and room and board exchange, Workaway offers lots of opportunities to choose the right experience for whatever you are looking for. The site offers a place for both hosts and Workawayers to communicate and learn more about each other before any commitment of time and space is made. I like the options provided for filtering exact place, host types and duration of stay. It makes it easy to navigate and customize the experience being sought.

This was my first experience using Workaway and it was surprisingly straightforward. The platform made it easy to connect quickly with someone who suited a last-minute situation, and communication through the site felt clear and secure. I appreciated being able to read profiles beforehand so expectations felt aligned from the start. Overall it created a positive exchange and I’d happily use Workaway again.

As a host, I find it to be a very easy-to-use platform. It’s helpful to read volunteer reviews and see where they’ve traveled. I’ve never had any issues with volunteers, and in my opinion, it feels safer than accepting them through word-of-mouth. Since volunteers have to pay for the service, it requires a bit more commitment on their part.

Knowing so many people from all over the world, share stories and always be willing of helping them during their trips it is the most amazing experience trough Workaway

I love Workaway. It is an easy to use process which I do 100% from my phone. I can see photos and descriptions of the applicants so I always am able to pick the right person for our circumstances. I have never had any problem people in 12-15 years!

Without this young, passionate, enthusiastic help and exchange I would not be able to have such a beautiful, productive property. I would also not be able to meet so many fun, young, international folks from all over the world. Keeps my mind open.

I love WorkAway! Thanks to WorkAway, I'm at almost 1 month in New Zealand so far and have been able to have the most wonderful experiences between two WorkAways. I have done lots of yard work, cheese making, yogurt making, taking care of chickens, eating delicious meals, and living the most wonderful life right now. I have been able to network with people, too, thanks to my WorkAway hosts.
And, I have spent very little money so far. Much less than if I were back home in the States!

I would recommend WorkAway to anyone with an open mind who wants new experiences and to meet new people while traveling.

Since retiring, I've volunteered a few times with Workaway. All my experiences have been positive. What I like most about Workaway is the wide variety of possibilities, both in terms of geography and of tasks available for volunteers.
