Squalor
Following a recent family bereavement, I booked a Roscoe House in the Middlesbrough area for 7 family members. After our recent tragic event we thought it would be good to book a house rather than to stay separately in a hotel so we could all be together, under one roof to support one another. We searched high and low (given there were 7 people staying) and came across the Workstays Listing ' Need a comfortable home away from home in Middlesbrough? Look no further than Roscoe House, this stylish 4-bedroom property being the newest addition to our selection, we guarantee that you will find everything necessary here to thrive at Roscoe House' - This sounded perfect, given we had travelled across the country and even as far as Singapore. The photographs on the website looked lovely, nice, clean, and spacious and just what we were looking for, so we were very pleased with our booking. However, upon arrival we became concerned/anxious when we drove down the street, to our dismay, the property was in an area that can only be described as 'dire'. Houses boarded up with metal shutters, graffiti on most properties, fly tipping in the neighbourhood, youths hanging around in gangs, it felt very unsafe. Immediately I was shocked and concerned however I hoped the property would be the 'nice comfortable home' that was listed, and I would have to accept the neighbourhood was not as expected. The experience soon went from bad to worse, the house was uninhabitable. Damp, full of mould and mildew, carpets were filthy, settee had pretty much collapsed, mattresses on all beds were not fit for sleeping in, shower was broken and full of mould (to the point that not one of us would dare to use it), blinds in the bedrooms would not block out the streetlights, windows broken and letting a draft through. It was one of those properties where you would not dare to take your shoes off. I can only describe this property as a 'Squalor'. Due to our Family Funeral, we had no choice but to stay in the property for one night, even though we had purchased a 3-night stay, we all agreed that it was not up to most people’s standard of living and certainly not the 'comfortable home away from home' as described. We left after one night and found alternative ‘comfortable accommodation’ I feel extremely aggrieved and conned by Workstays advertisement and the photographs posted, this is absolutely no reflection on the current state of this property! I am even more disappointing in the fact that when I contacted David by e-mail to address my concerns that I did not even get a response. Pretty poor considering our experience, happy to take your money but not so happy to address concerns or offer any recompense! Avoid, Avoid, Avoid is all I can say!
