Accessible volunteering

I recently became a listener last year and it really accessible to be a volunteer. I say this because I'm a quadriplegic since birth and I've always wanted to help people. So this gives me a platform to do so from home and with a flexible schedule. The only thing is is that they can't allow me to use my crisis training but that's just Company policy. I still give it five stars because of the accessibility aspect which I greatly appreciate.

Bait-N-Switch Company

Bait-N-Switch company - STAY FAR AWAY!!!
Data-mines information from reputable therapists without their knowledge and then corrals you towards one of their "listeners." Exploitative, dishonest, greedy... not exactly the mothership of a where someone should go share their woes.

7 Cups practices bait and switch

7 Cups practices bait and switch. They list therapists who are NOT AFFILIATED with them as bait. After hooking a sucker, they will switch you to a different therapist. Don't be a sucker. Don't do business with them. Avoid them because they are not ethical.

Unauthorized profiles…

This company has lifted profiles from Psychology Today and pasted them on their site, often with some minor alterations to avoid copyright laws. When you use these listings you’re directed to providers other than the one you’ve selected - often out of your state. You’re much better off seeking help from legitimate sites like Psychology Today.

Misleading and unethical practice

Scraps and misusing information to create unauthorized profiles of licensed therapists without their knowledge or permission to attract people, then appears to charge people $40 a week to funnel them to unlicensed “listeners” and AI. Misleading, unethical, and who knows what is being done with user data when there is no evidence of HIPAA compliance.

This company continues to harvest…

This company continues to harvest therapist contact data from other websites to post it and give the impression that the therapist works for 7cups when they do not.
Therapists continue to contact 7cups who demands that they setup an account in order to get their info removed.
This is gross and disgusting - clients are deliberately being misdirected away from sites that the therapist has paid to be listed on.

STEALS Therapist's informaiotn

This "therapy company" STEALS legitimate therapits' advertising on a site called Psychology Today, posts it on their page that this therapist is a part of their group and when you attempt to message them, they tell you it's been sent but in the meantime would you like another therapist. The therapist (who doesn't work for this company) never gets the message!

Do not trust this site

Do not trust this site. My information is listed as a therapist, however I am not on their site nor have I ever signed up for them, and had not heard about them until recently seeing other therapist with the same issue. This site steals info from other advertising sites such as Psychology Today and acts as if a therapist is part of their group. I am a private practice therapist but the info is incorrect AI robot info, some wrong.

Licensed therapist says do not trust

I am a licensed therapist and 7 cups acquired my information without my consent and displays my info as if I gave consent. If someone were to reach out to me seeking therapy, I don’t get the messages. 7 cups intercepts it. I never see it. This company is not to be trusted.

I am a professional therapist listed on psychology today. 7 cups unethically and probably illegally took my psychology today profile information and published it on their website to promote getting clients. Fraudulent, information is not protected

I am a therapist who got their information "scraped" from my listing on Psychology Today (for which they verified me and my license, and for which I pay a monthly fee to be listed) and, without any notice or consent on my part, my information was posted on 7 cups as if I were one of their providers. When I was alerted to this by a colleague, I attempted to utilize the 'send a message' feature on the 7cups listing for me... me the potential client got an email from 7 cups saying that me the potential therapist had been contacted. I was not contacted, that potential "client" message was never sent to me the therapist. So, this is blatant fraud. If they are comfortable misrepresenting and stealing therapist contact information, I would be VERY CONCERNED about what they are willing to do with client demographic and mental health information. I would assume that PRIVATE CLIENT DEMOGRAPHIC AND MENTAL HEALTH INFORMATION CANNOT BE TRUSTED TO BE SAFE OR CONFIDENTIAL. Never ever use 7 cups.

I strongly advise against using 7 Cups

I strongly advise against using 7 Cups, whether as a client or a professional. Our organization discovered that 7 Cups is misappropriating therapist information, falsely presenting licensed professionals as part of their network without consent or affiliation. This is not just misleading — it’s unethical and potentially illegal.

Imagine trusting a mental health platform, only to find out the therapist you're matched with may not even know they’re being advertised on the site. That’s not just dishonest, it’s dangerous. Mental health is too important to gamble on platforms that don’t respect the people or the profession.

If you care about working with verified, ethically sourced professionals, stay far away from 7 Cups. They have lost all credibility.

Sexually harrassed by a verified listener

I tried 7 Cups' listener chat. I was having a particularly low day and needed someone to talk to, so I gave it a try. The listener guided the conversation, suggesting we play truth or dare to take my mind off of the issue. That in itself felt weird, but I went along with it. The listener very quickly turned the conversation sexual, describing scenarios of them touching me. I reported the listener and got a boxed response that it would be looked into, but never received a follow-up. I reported it again and have never heard back from 7 Cups. It doesn't seem like 7 Cups takes sexual harrassment seriously at all. A horrible thought when there are many users using their service because they have trauma from sexual harrassment and assault.

I went onto 7 cups looking for a specific therapist. I received an email back right away saying they would reach out to this therapist. The email stated " we've contacted the listed service provider you selected and will keep you updated". I found this therapist on another site and reached out to her. She informed me that she does not have any affiliation with 7 cups and never received an email. This seems to be a shady business adventure
