Therapist Profiles Created Without Consent

I am a licensed therapist and recently discovered that 7 Cups created a profile for me using information from professional directories — without my consent. This unauthorized profile misrepresented my practice, as I have no affiliation with 7 Cups.

It appears that 7 Cups has created profiles for numerous therapists without permission, raising serious ethical concerns and potentially misleading clients while violating our rights as professionals.

When I contacted 7 Cups to request removal of the profile, they gave me a “special offer” to claim it free for six months, after which I’d be charged $29.99/month. Only after multiple requests, an FTC complaint, and a BBB complaint did 7 Cups finally remove the profile with my information.

I am a licensed mental health clinician…

I am a licensed mental health clinician operating a virtual private practice. I recently discovered that 7 Cups, an online therapy platform, is using my name, credentials, and other professional information on their website without my permission. This unauthorized use of my identity and qualifications is being used to drive traffic to 7 Cups, effectively misleading potential clients by giving the impression that I am affiliated with or endorsing their services, which I am not. Furthermore, the use of my name and credentials in this deceptive way diverts potential clients from my own independent practice. 7 Cups’ actions harm my business by misleading individuals seeking my services and redirecting them to their platform instead. I did not authorize this use of my personal and professional information, and I consider it a violation of my privacy and intellectual property rights. The unauthorized use of my name and credentials has resulted in a direct loss of potential clients for my practice. Additionally, it has created confusion and mistrust among potential clients who believe I am affiliated with this platform. This is damaging my reputation and professional brand, causing financial and reputational harm to my business.

Fraudulent practices

They have me listed as a therapist that works for them but once you click on it, it tells you that I am not available and they offer you to work with someone else. The thing is I don't work for them, I don't use their services, and until I Googled myself, I had no idea they existed. I am about to report them to the FTC and BBB.

Deceptive & Fraudulent Business Practices

I am a licensed mental health provider who recently found out that 7 cups has been using my name and information to deceive mental health consumers. 7 Cups, without my authorization or consent has used my name and information on their website, listing me as a mental health provider who works at their company. When you go to my profile and click my name, it then tells you that I am not available and redirects you to a paid service through 7 cups. Again, I have never been employed and or provided any consent either written or verbal for 7 cups to steal and fraudulently create a provider profile under my name—on their website. This is a bait and switch tactic that is deceptive and fraudulent to mental health consumers. What a way to capitalize on someone’s mental health who is looking for services. I would be extremely hesitant to provide any credit card information to this company seeing that they are fraudulently stealing and using mental health providers information on their website. Despite placing multiple requests for them to remove my information that they have stolen and fraudulently used, they continue to not respond. STAY AWAY.

Fraudulent practices

I am a licensed therapist who has NEVER interacted with 7cups, yet my name and description is presented on their website as if I work for them. This company stole my profile from another website, without my permission, and posted it on their site. This is FRAUD! It is unethical and illegal! The BBB and FTC have been informed.

Stealing therapist profiles to draw in clients

This website has stolen my name and intellectual property off of a paid registry where I advertise my counseling services. They have done this with countless other professionals as well. They use these profiles to pull in clients and then redirect them to their own services instead of to the therapist whose info is being misused. They are highly unethical and should not be trusted.

7cups is stealing information from…

7cups is stealing information from legitimate therapist directory websites and listing it on their site without therapists' permission. They're offering "listeners" and AI services, which are nowhere near the same as speaking to a real, trained, licensed mental health professional. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE.

This site is a scam

I'm a therapist listed on this site, but I'd never heard of this site until today. They stole my copy and created a profile for me as if I work with them. When I click to schedule with myself, the message says I'm not available. They're using stolen therapist profiles to attract clients for their own therapists.

Unethical Business.

I am a licensed clinician. This company stole my profile from another website, without my permission, and posted it on their site, making it appear as though I work for them. I have reported them to the BBB and FTC. They employ "listeners" with no education or training to talk to people and give people the impression they are speaking to therapists. Unethical, immoral and illegal behaviors.

I am working as a listener for 7 cup for a graduate level social work internship..

I began working as a listener for 7 cups a few months ago as part of a graduate school internship. This first hand experience in applying multiple skills and therapeutic communication techniques has helped me grow as a student and a professional.
Furthermore, I appreciate that there is support, community, and continuing education embedded within the platform/program.

7Cups has helped me learn many things…

7Cups has helped me learn many things and improve myself; I have more patience, can manage the time better, and am seeing myself be more compassionate. They absolutely practice what they preach. Their Academy programs and Trainings are in-depth and provide much useful information for everyone! While there are, of course, some cons - as there are to any website - such as, some members or Listeners not doing what they’re supposed to, which can’t be controlled on a large scale, it’s been an overall lovely and worthwhile learning experience for me as a Listener.

Listening therapy is wrong

Listening therapy is wrong. It sees your issue but does NOTHING to fix it. Therapy should be about trying to find good solutions to practical and emotional problems.

The site is badly built and outdated.

Listeners are not vetted and are poor at what they do.
