First time user of storage facilities

First time of using this type of facility Matt Redfern was very helpful and informative prior to using the storage facilities and on the day we moved our items in. Having reserved a unit that wasn't big enough Matt kindly found a bigger storage unit for us. Sophie Grech was also very helpful in sending any information I requested.

Helpful and easy

I have been with self storage a few…

I have been with self storage a few times now and they always seem to amaze me with their excellent customer service.Matt in particular was very helpful in a big way for me and I will always appreciate what he done for me.The manager and young lady there helped me massively too as I can't walk far with my condition and they offered me a ground floor unit which was fantastic.Also may I add,the units are half price but not sure how long for. I would recommend them to everyone.

No problem with unloading, plenty of transporting cages etc for easy transport to our lockup. Security of storage good

Very professional....

Very professional....
Done all.my onboarding online which was very easy. On arrival a new young lady in training, showed me where the keypad for checing in/out was, showed
me the unit i booked and made sure it was adequate for my needs. Advised me to download the app so that i could have full control and access to necessary codes and contact.

The team here have been great they’ve…

The team here have been great they’ve helped us get a unit on the day of a mess up happening somewhere else and saved the day! The manager was very reasonable and helped us very quickly we couldn’t be happier. Very easy and good accessible storage unit to use.

HIDDEN INSURANCE COSTS BEWARE

The online forms allow you to choose no insurance (my household insurance covered me), on arrival, having driven there with my possessions I was told I had to sign up for a min £25 mth insurance, or get a letter addressed to Access from my Insurers, itemising the possessions and confirming they are insured. Like my Insurance would do that, and they know you've arrived with a van of stuff you need to store. It's a scan=m, pure and simple. £25mth (minimum) is more than I pay for buildings and contents on a 4 bed house. They wanted it for a tiny unit, for possessions worth a few hundred quid. It's a con to get you to sign up for a cheap unit, then make their money on teh Insurance, which most people would have to take on the chin rather than walk away. It is in the small print, very small print, but they don't tell you when you opt for no insurance. So BEWARE, your cheap unit isn't going to be as cheap as you think. I cancelled there and then and left.

By law, storage customers must have insurance that meets the requirements for self-storage, whether through their own provider or through a policy we can arrange. This ensures belongings are fully protected at all times. In this case, the policy provided did not meet those requirements, and as an alternative we offered our in-house cover.

We completely understand this can feel frustrating, but security and compliance are very important to us. We’re glad we were able to cancel your policy promptly and arrange a refund, and we’ll continue working to make sure the insurance requirements are always as clear as possible.

Last minute storage dealt with professionalism and kindness

We moved from East Yorkshire down to Southampton on Monday , and ran into an emergency as the house was not ready for move-in.We contacted access self storage at about 4pm and the staff were kind and understanding, they arranged for us to unload at the local storage unit even though we arrived quite late !
The check out process was smooth… we just sent an email to inform them of the intended check out date and had an instant reply.

I can’t thank the staff member enough especially Jack at Southampton Access Self storage. At a time of stress, your professionalism and kindness made a lot of difference to our house move !

Beware of Contents Insurance scam

I uploaded my Home Contents Insurance policy as requested and this appeared to have been accepted. On arrival at the Southampton branch, the policy was rejected and I was presented with a piece of paper outlining what would be a suitable contents policy including naming Access Storage. My policy quite clearly states that I have cover for contents away from the home including whilst in temporary storage. I felt that I was being pressured into taking out a contents policy with Access. Copied out below is what their T&Cs state.

I was denied access to the storage unit. I cancelled my contract there and then. It took about 10 days for a refund despite the fact that Access took the money from my account well before the start date. I was deducted a days hire from the refund. This was dressed up as some sort of goodwill gesture as I had not been charged the full seven days. Clearly, in my opinion, the fault lies with Access. I was never allowed access to the unit.

Three words to describe Access - thieves, scammers and con artists

20.2.3 You will supply the store manager at the Facility with a letter from Your
insurance provider with proof of a valid contract of insurance with a
reputable insurance company for the full replacement value of the
Contents, specifying the insured value.
20.3 We may agree to waive the requirements set out in Clause 20.2 during
any period in respect of which You have paid for Contents Protection.

Thank you for your feedback. We're sorry to hear your experience didn’t meet your expectations and we appreciate the opportunity to clarify what happened.

To be clear, access to the unit was not denied outright. In fact, our team member, Henry, made every effort to enable your move-in on the day. You were offered the option to temporarily take out our contents protection so that you could access your unit immediately, with the understanding that you could then provide updated documentation from your insurer within the 14-day cooling-off period. Once that was received, we would have refunded the full protection premium — essentially treating it as a temporary hold rather than a charge, and ensuring no financial loss to you for that interim solution.

Regarding the refund, a one-day charge was automatically generated by our system, even though the store waived the standard seven-day notice period. While the team were unable to override this locally at the time, we’d be happy to arrange a refund of the remaining balance.

To process this promptly, please contact the store directly with your preferred payment details, as we do not retain this information in order to remain compliant with GDPR regulations.

We regret that this experience left you feeling dissatisfied, but we do hope this helps explain the rationale behind the steps taken — which were in line with our terms but also intended to be as accommodating as possible. We’re happy to discuss this further directly if you’d like to reach out again.

Initially worth it but not so sure now

Initial sign is was great and was happy with the experience. However we went to complete the transfer of furniture both lifts were not working. They got the first lift to work but since I have been moving in there is only one lift.
I had issues with after hours. Customer service gave me a pass code to go into the facility so we loaded up the car and when we got there the pass code that was given was not correct - I had wasted an hour and there were no after hour service stating that I had to log in the problem and they would get back to me during office hours. Very disappointing. To say that you have 24 hr access and not have it work is very poor.

Access Storage is well organised and…

Access Storage is well organised and obviously a very experienced service. The staff were very helpful when we were choosing the right size unit and patient with us.
We love the app with the codes it makes things much easier without having to remember more pin numbers.

Spam called me 8 times in a week

Spam called me 8 times in a week, emailed me on top of this. When I eventually answered I said that I'm looking elsewhere because of the spam calling. The person who rang me said that it's just what they're required to do and said we aren't having this conversation and hung up halfway through my sentence. Think the managers need to have a serious rethink about how much they call potential customers, as it was completely unprofessional and they were unwilling to hear feedback.
